First Fertilizer Friday of 2009! March 20/09

Happy Friday! Do you know what that means?
If you are new to my blog, you are about to find out!
Around here Friday's are for feeding your plants!
Grab your fertilizer of choice, your watering can and a big spring smile...feed those plants and watch them grow! Houseplants, greenhouse plants, gardens too! (if you are lucky enough to have warm climates) IT'S FERTILIZER FRIDAY!!!!!! (the very first one of 2009)
I am so excited to be able to feed a few of my greenhouse plants. Never feed a seedling that has not yet developed it's second set of leaves...as you could damage the plant. But the rest....go ahead ...give them a kick in the roots! You won't regret it!
Have a safe and happy weekend...see you back here Monday!

YIPPEE! You are finally catching up with me, I have been giving my plants a kick in the roots for several weeks now!! Can't wait for your gardens to grow and mine to fill in. My seeds are up in the gardens, cosmos, zinnias, marigold, salvia, four o'clocks, bush morning glory...and I can't remember all of them right now!! Have a great weekend, hope you post your greenhouse seedlings soon.

I usually fertilize on Sat and I love to see how it helps my plants pop.

I like perennials because they usually multiply (spreading of the plants). I'd go broke if I had to buy every plant I want. I have time to wait for them to multiply and spread

Thanks for the reminder to feed my houseplants. It's still a little to early for outdoors in Pennsylvania.

Toots, I didn't have anything to fertilize except my trees so we put spikes in last nite around all the trees. Does that count? Have a great friday and week-end.

How's the weather up there today?

Thanks for the reminder. Now, how about a little 101 on the proper way to feed a garden. I always worry about fertilizer on the leaves and burning up my plants (did that once, just once though). I'm sure you've got some great tips on how to do it quickly and effectively.

TOOTSIE!!! I need your wonderful plant advice! I bought some bulbs and tubers a while back (canna's, dahlia's, asiatic lilies) and I was so excited about them, I left them in my dining room on the buffet. Anyway - the sunlight and warm air meant that they started to sprout. I've got a 4" plant in a bag! I already pre-planted my canna's and they're doing really well, but I'm worried about planting my dahlia bulbs and asiatics - since they can't be planted outside until the end of may. (Gotta love this weather!) So do you have any advice? Do I plant the ones that have already sprouted? Will they die if I don't?

What a happy title--you are on top of things in the world of gardening. Last night we were inspired by a retired landscape architect who spoke about the necessity of surround our homes and neighborhoods with beauty. Your advice gives me a jolt to take action after the winter doldrums. This will be my second season of having Tootsie's imprint on my gardens. Thank you so much. Fieldstone/Pam

Nothing to fertilize here yet, except maybe a few houseplants. I'm anxious to read all your hints as we really get into the growing season.

I would love to see what you would do with my urns I posted about with LIVE flowers! :)

Great idea....it's definitely warm enough in Houston! I will, however, have to sneak in the fertilizer so my totally green/tree-hugging neighbor doesn't see. She would freak if she saw chemicals. But sometimes they are needed! I have a compost pile and try to do a lot of natural stuff by I'm glad you promote fertilizing.

Hey Tootsie! I brought my geranium plant inside and have kept it all winter, it looks nice and green but no blooms.
Is it just waiting til it can get back outside or what???

Betty

Yes, I have been feeding it.

Feel free to pack your bags and come along; I guarantee that we will have a fun time.

I got an orchid from a home seller today..what do I need to know? I put it in the sunny ( but indirect) light and humidity of the re-done bathroom.

Hey Tootsie, I followed fertilizer Fridays all last season and it worked GREAT!!!! I added something to it though for houseplants, "Flipping", (although it's really rotating, I needed a word that started with "F".) That's so I remember to give my houseplants a quarter turn each week. Just thought I'd share my silliness, but it works for me.

Clever! I've just started growing dahlia tubers right in my yard and spend sometimes watching them grow (hopefully) healthy. You just remind me I forgot something essential to these dahlias--Fertilizers. I still have many Fridays to catch up.
