A Stitch in Time....

Oh girls! I was so excited when my cell phone rang and I learned that I had won the silent auction at the local Sally Anne!!!! I let out a giggle and had a tiny celebration right there behind the wheel of my truck (yea...I was on the way to hockey) lol
What did I win???
Yeppers!!! I won a beautiful old sewing machine! So what if the front drawer is missing...I can live with a little imperfection....after all...I'm less than perfect!
She is Canadian Made too!!! look how dirty that is...just wait!
Seriously dirty....
In complete working order!!!
Look how pretty!!
This just tickled me pink to see a built in measuring tape!
The belt is leather...
Okay Gloria....what the heck are these two pieces for????? it came with the machine...and I am so clueless..it has to be something fabulous if they were kept with the machine all this time...
Inside those drawers were old bobbins that look like bullets...(forgot to take a photo) lol
After a little cleaning...she is starting to look a little more pretty!
And a lot less dusty...see how shiny I made that???
I love all the details...
I is looking a lot cleaner since I put some elbow grease into it!
Oh how I wish I could leave it open all the time!!! But...sadly my house is not big enough to have that privelage....I will post it again when I finish my living room make over...and fall clean out! (that means a while from now-lol)
Thanks Diane for giving us a place to share! Head over to her blog by clicking on the top photo to see what the others are sharing!

What a find! How beautiful. It is going to look great in your house. Funny you talked about the bullet shaped bobbins. My mother had a sewing machine with that shaped bobbin also. I had asked her last week about that machine and she said it was long gone :(

Oh Tootsie, what a treasure. I learned to sew on an old treadle sewing machine. I loved it. Have no idea what my mother ever did with it. Yours is just so pretty and I love all the detail it has. What a wonderful treasure. Hugs, Marty

Great job girl...Loved this machine I had never seen a Raymond one before...looked it up on line...Now I looked at my old singer one and the only thing I can tell from the wood pieces is that they fit into the bottom of where the machine rests when its in the cabinet...see if they fit there...other wise I have not a clue girl...But you did great on the price...check and see if you can get the other drawers for it...Or you might want to use it for a TV stand and put your dvd where the front drawer was...just me thinking out loud again...Love ya girl...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

Oh man I am old. I remember the bobbins that looked like bullets. My grandmother was a dressmaker and had one that old. I remember when she got an electric one. I had it for years and got tired of looking at it.
You did a great job. It is shining.

This is an absolute treasure! My Grandma Annie had an old Singer and my sister inherited it when she died. I've always loved the look of the old machines. My sister actually still used it until at least 10 years ago. Hmmm, I wonder if she still has it. You got a wonderful prize there and I'm glad you won so I could enjoy seeing it there!

Tootsie what a wonderful thing to win!! I have an old machine like this too. WHen David was about 8 or 9 he decided he wanted to make something on that old machine and made a little quilt. I took a picture of him sewing at the machine- he was such a cutie!! ooo now I am wanting to go hunt up that cute pic!

Tootsie...I am SO darned happy for you! What a treasure. You will have fun with it I am sure. I also have one. It belonged to my husbands mother and they brought it to California from Maine..and it is just beautiful. It is in the family room and I just love it. There is something so ...warm about those old sewing machines!

I had to laugh at the "Monster" glass thingy. Too darned funny! It's Mosser..and I mispelled it anyway. I spelled it Mosher..put in an h instead of another s. Everyone mispelled it, including myself..but your's was the best!
LOL And by the way...NEVER get a red face with me...because there is nothing you can do or say that I haven't done WORSE! :):) And THEN some!
Hugs... :)

CAUTE! You could crochet a lovely open worked piece and attach it to some foam core and set it into that open spot where the drawer used to be. You could put your last name on it-- or your monogram, it would look like it was meant to be like that :-)

Oh know! Are you taking up sewing too. Good, because I don't sew very much and I need some items done. LOL This is terrfic that you won this. How awesome is that.
You will be sewing for the whole family now. The blog family. I thought that would make you laugh. Yeah, I would have a summer home up there and then come back home. That sounds like a plan. Have a good day. I've been painting pumpkins black and orange........

Oh my gosh, you so scored! That sewing machine is a beauty. Some sewing blog I read (I forget which one -- that is how my brain works) is written by someone who actually sews on a machine like this. How cool is that? Oh, Tootsie, she is so gorgeous and you've already perked her up with all that loving attention. How cool! Congratulations...

Everyone should have a sewing machine or 3 around the house. And your's is so very cool! Do you know what kind of wood? I don't think it's 1/4 sawn oak but maybe curly maple? Whatever, it's very nice. I have a treadle machine also - and a Singer Featherweight - and a Bernina - and a Pfaff - and a Pfaff I gave to my daughter 'cuz I can only sew on one at a time anyway!!

The odd pieces may have been extra packaging for when the machine was shipped to the original buyer/store from the factory. One piece looks like it would support the top of the machine head in a crate, and the other piece may have protected the bottom.

thanks Tamar!
