I Made My Own! What's Your Tradition?

Over the years, I have made several different ornaments for family and friends. I did my little tradition for about 14 years. I stopped about 3 years ago when I was going through the world’s ugliest divorce.   I didn’t just skip a year, I totally let the tradition go.

There were people in my life that actually looked forward to seeing what I will come up with to pass around each year. Some things are given out as sets, others are individual gifts.  If I passed out sets, I would have had to make hundreds of each item...lol. These are a few of the projects I have taken on.
 BeFunky_02.jpg
The last year that I did an annual Christmas gift for everyone on my card list was the year that I made these.  It was a year I almost didn't make anything, until my then niece mentioned how much she was looking forward to adding this year's addition to her hope chest. So I got my butt in gear and thought of something easy, fast, pretty and shiny! They were used to spice up the place settings at Christmas dinner. Each person got one...and they got to keep them. They also look very pretty on a side table or where ever!
BeFunky_001 (2).jpg
...this is about as close to a tablescape as I will probably ever come!BeFunky_003.jpg
These are my bow tie pasta angels. Some have a lapel pin on the back for the ladies to put on their collar....and some (not pictured here) have a wire ornament hook glued on the back to put on a small tree. I made each person or  family a set of several of them so as to create a statement on the tree.
BeFunky_004.jpg
Here's her close-up!
BeFunky_5.jpg
These are my Snow Mites!

They were my 2007 Ornament, and a HUGE hit!

Each family got a set with enough little snow people to represent each of their family members.
BeFunky_ 6.jpg
These little mitten people are adorable...
BeFunky_7.jpg
A few that I have made...I was getting so good at them, that I made 100’s of them…and customized them to whoever wanted them.   I think I still have a few dozen in the storage box...lol
BeFunky_8.jpg
These light bulb men were my 2006 ornament.

They were the hardest challenge for me...I am NOT AN ARTIST! Those faces took me a long long time. I made each family member one...each friend one too...I tried to make them suit the person that got them.
BeFunky_009.jpg
This one has hair!
BeFunky_010.jpg
You should have seen the looks I got when I was outside spray painting light bulbs in July...one guy actually mentioned that it is possible to purchase light bulbs in colors...he thought I was going to plug them into lamps! lol
BeFunky_011.jpg
I don't recall which year these were...but they are slippers made out of a Christmas card. I stuffed them with little bunches of potpourri.
BeFunky_12.jpg
They took a long time to make. These ones are about 8 inches tall.
BeFunky_13.jpg
This is a larger version...they are about 11 inches tall.
BeFunky_14.jpg
The paper angels were the ornament for 2005. ( I think) lol

They are made out of coffee filters. I don't drink coffee...so they didn't go to waste. I had a really hard time finding the brown filters...most of them now are white...I had no idea!
BeFunky_16.jpg
They are a few years old...so they are not as fluffy as they once were...
BeFunky_17.jpg
I made these skates a few years back. Each person (or family got a set of 6 pairs each) They are made from Styrofoam...the eyelets are small grommets and the laces are craft rope. I painted them by hand with acrylic paints and they were a huge hit with the hockey families, and a few of the more athletic people in our family.
BeFunky_18.jpg
BeFunky_19.jpg
I have several others that I have made over the years, but I think I will wait to post them for another day...hey...a girl can only make a post so long ya know!

What do you make?

Do you have a tradition that you like to do?

Until Next Time…Happy Crafing!

*)*)*)… Expecting the world to treat you fairly cause you are a good person is like expecting the lion not to attack you because you are a vegetarian.

Wow, you have been busy through the years. great job on all these adorable Christmas pieces. I know everyone that received them had to be thrilled.
I have crafted ornaments and decorations for our home over the years too. I recently realized that it's been at least 2 years since I've sat down and made ornaments.

Girl you rock!!! And you made me cry. Not in a bad way, but I have a bunch of handmade ornaments that my mama made - you may remember she's deceased, Dec. 19th is the anniversary of her death and she LOVED Christmas. Anyway, those handmade ornaments are my most treasured. I know the ones you have made for others are held in the same regard.

I love all of these!!!I have given my customers a goblet every year for the past 11 years. Two were sets of four. One was a set of things on a Christmas tree. One set was a snow family. A snow person each year. This year I did flutted glasses with black trees and a red bird on one branch. Next year will be a blue bird on a branch of a tree on another glass. It just showes how much my customers mean to me. Kathy

Fantastic! Do you see these on craft shows and magazines or do you make them up? I know you are very talented and that's why I thought you may have come up with some of the ideas yourself.
I've been taking pics of the Christmas stuff I've made for a post too. LOL Slim pickins' for me this time of year.

You are one very creative lady! I remember last year I marked your ornament place markers in my idea file, didn't make any though. I use to craft but admit I haven't gotten back into it much. Maybe I will again.

Glenda these are amazing...Can I please be put on the list!
So.... what have you done for this year?

Tootsie said...

Kate... I no longer do the tradition. My love for Christmas died a few years back. I am trying to find it again, but mostly all I have for it anymore is dread.

Karen said...

Tootsie, I'm lucky if I have a tree branch trimmed for Christmas. All of these ornaments and gifts are amazing, you have so much ambition! I guess my tradition is procrastination, not that I'm proud of it.

Handmade gifts are the most cherished.

Those are all sooo cute and so sweet of you to make so many for so many folks. I hear ya. This is my third ugly year. The divorce is final and also the settlement. But the atty wrote it in an unenforceable way. SO I spent yesterday interviewing attys. Need to find a new one. That last one saw me coming and dragged it out until I was of my inheritance and then dropped me once the divorce was done. And now wants the rest of her money. Well, fix the settlement so I can receive the amount I'm due! But that wouldn't look good for her. So Holiday spirit? It's dead. Don't know when this nightmare will be over, just when I think I can see the light, it closes in again.
I hope you can find and reclaim your Holiday Spirit. Be happy...that's all I want to be but can't manage it. Last week when I saw my therapist she wanted to hospitalize me.....my youngest is having health problems and was having surgery the next day..no way she was sticking me in the hosp. so she brought my daughter in and told her to watch me...gee thanks, now I really feel like a fool!

Find your Spirit so I know there is hope :)
