Welcome 2014!

Well friends, a new year is upon us, and it is cold cold cold here in Alberta Canada.   We have had freezing rains, frigidly cold weather and snow snow snow!  Myself…I am desperate for spring to come, as the winter months seem to drag on at a snail’s pace.  I want warm winds, spring rain and SUNSHINE!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and sent 2013 packing with a smile.   I wish for you all a great year to come, filled with all the good things life can offer, including love, good health and prosperity.

In spite of the bitter weather…2014 has come in with a smile for me.   I am in a good place in my life right now…busy, peaceful and happier than I thought I would ever be.   It feels good to be here…as you all know, there was a time that if anyone had told me that I would be even a fraction of this  happy 2 years ago, I would have told you that you were insane!

I have taken on a few new challenges this year, and I have been busy as a bee learning some new skills, and planning future projects…all of which I do plan to share with you all as soon as I can!    I plan to finish sharing the 108 year old house project (as I go along…and reveal a few changes I have been making inside my own house now.  I can’t hardly wait to get things finished up and share them!   It seems to take a lot longer to finish a project since I moved from the city to this little rural community.   If I don’t have the things I need to complete a project, the chances are pretty good that I will have to wait until I take a little road trip to a larger center to find what I need!   Be patient with me…I am working as fast as I can!  Smile

Our holiday break is almost over…Fertilizer Friday will resume it’s regular postings next week…  The post will be up in the early evening of January 16th!!!   I hope to see you all there with bells on!!!   I can’t wait to see what you all have to share from your greenhouses and gardens…

I have been snooping around in my seed catalogs at all the glorious flowers and plants that will inspire me to get planting the spring crop of annuals in the greenhouse.   Oh how I do love a little dirt therapy any time I can get it!

I have also been looking back at some past posts during our little break…and have made the decision to bring back a little thing that I used to do WAY back when Tootsie Time was young…The Q&A posts!   You guys remember them don’t you???   Those were the posts in which I did my best to answer questions that you all sent to me.   I really enjoyed those posts…and can’t wait to get started on another one or two!

So…What do you want to know?  Let me know!!!   You can send me your questions via my email…or you can simply pop them into the comments box at the end of this post…I moderate all comments, so they will not be published until AFTER I put up the post to answer! Smile

So….WELCOME 2014!!!   This is going to be an exciting year for us all…and I am just so excited to be able to share it all post by post with all of you….and equally excited to visit your pages and celebrate all of your lives too!
Enjoy the last week of our holiday break kids…we are about to get our Tootsie On very soon!

Until Next Time…Happy New Year!

Date With A MERMAID?

A few weeks ago I had the most wonderful day.  It was a day I had been waiting for, for what seemed ages!   I got to meet another Garden Blogger!   Yes…I sure did!

Who did I get to meet???

I got to meet the Mermaid From Frog Hollow!!!  Her name is Kate and she is such a sweet lady!

Kate was in the country to visit her kids, and was kind enough to offer me a day of her time!  She originally wanted to come tour my home and gardens, which I would have LOVED to have her do, but my conscience would not let me.   You see, she was going to borrow her daughter’s car and drive here for the day, and then turn around and go all the way back to her daughter’s house….in CALGARY!

I live in a small town called Wainwright Alberta.  Calgary is almost a 6 hour drive away from where I am, and I simply could not allow Kate to make such a long trip just to see me!  So….I talked her into meeting me in Red Deer.  That means we both will travel a little…3 hours for me and 1 1/2 for her.   I often travel to Red Deer to run errands, and visit friends…I know that city very well, as until 2 years ago, it was my home.

The plan was set…Kate and I would meet at noon in Red Deer.  We would have a quick bite to eat, and tour some garden centers while we chatted!   I could hardly wait!   I have been wanting to meet a REAL garden blogger forever!!!   It seemed like the moment would never arrive…the drive which I normally enjoyed…felt like the longest one of my life!

All the way to meet her, I kept worrying about what we would talk about…will she be arrogant or self absorbed?   Will we have ANYTHING to talk about?  The thoughts were just racing through my mind, and my nerves were tense!

The moment was finally here…I was at the meeting place, and there was Kate…waiting for me…Here we go!!!….YAY!   The Mermaid is a sweetheart!   All of my nerves were for nothing!   She is just a sweet, kind, intelligent, strong willed single mom who is genuine and absolutely easy to talk to!  I can’t tell you how relieved I was that she is WHO she is!

We instantly clicked…started talking about anything and everything and found that we have SO much in common!!!  She and I could be sisters with all the similarities in our lives!     We chatted our whole afternoon away while wandering around in a couple of garden centers.  Before we knew it, the hour was getting late and it was almost time to say goodbye.

I made a purchase to remember my visit with the mermaid by.   I was instantly taken by this piece…

Isn’t she cute???

I love this swimming lady.

I will always think of my meeting with Kate when I look at her…she is also going to go into a spring/ summer sandal display in Grammie’s shoe store next summer.

The only thing better would have been if it was a mermaid…but hey…this gal is the next best thing!
One day, I will have a pond to “swim” her by, but until then, she will add a little touch of whimsy to my garden/greenhouse/day no matter where I put her!

I also purchased a couple of other little items  to celebrate the wonderful day that I had with my garden sister.   These items are not for me…they are for YOU!   I am going to include them as a gift to my followers as a give away.    You can read about the giveaway HERE.

The day  with the Mermaid went by WAY too fast.   I wish we could have had more time to visit…it seemed we never had any trouble finding things to talk about…the conversation just flowed!

Meeting Kate and getting to know her better was such a fantastic treat.  I learned so much about my friend that day.

I am so glad we met. and I can’t wait to have a chance to visit with her again.
I hope that one day I will meet some of you guys too!

Until Next Time…Happy Blogging/Gardening!

*)*)*)  Remember, How you treat someone today will determine how they will treat you tomorrow.
