Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers June 24/11

Copy_of_001

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol) It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!!

Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together , snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!

If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?” Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootise Time, or the linky will be deleted. I don’t mean to be harsh, but there have been a lot of people linking in and when the participants graciously click over to their blogs, there is no sign of Fertilizer Friday anywhere to be found. This is not fair to those who do follow the rules, therefore…well you know!

So? what are you waiting for? Get outside, feed, water, snap and post!

Okay…here I am again…busy as all get out…and glad that I have this little party…because it give me a good reason to take a few minutes to stroll around in my gardens and take some photos!

What a crazy week! I am so glad that next week is the last week of school for my kids…so that there is one or two less things for me to worry about! ha-ha…let me tell you…raising three great yet very active kids alone…is a job and a half!…but I wouldn’t change it for the world…my little gang is my whole world!

Anyways…ON with the FLAUNT! I did some work on the front yard this week in between meetings and things…the hedge got trimmed to be all one height…(which turns out is very short)…the weeds got yanked and thrown away and things are looking rather pretty at this moment…(at least until the next wave of chick weed flows in) My next door neighbors…are terrible garden keepers…the weeds are going wild over there…and the wind keeps blowing them into my gardens too. Maybe one day, I will get rid of all of the weeds? ha-ha-ha…it’s a nice dream!!!

Here's the current state of affairs in my front yard!

DSCN0482

That poor little hedge…is the same size as the Marigolds…but will be grand one day!

DSCN0454

In the evening when the light is just right…the terracotta and the purple blooms in front of the hegde…just glow. I am sharing that next week…with the evening view of the lights on the vines…so suffer till then!!! (evil grins)

DSCN0450

I love walking up on my yard…the smell hits you about 6 houses down…all the flowers just smell so good!

DSCN0463

I had to remove about 6 inches of topsoil from this bed to rid myself of the huge chick weed population this time…so I had to put some new little plants in…and salvage what I could from the rest…it was BAD. I filled 4 garbage cans just out of the front yard with weeds.

DSCN0442

I did find someone that I thought had perished over the winter though!!!

DSCN0441

I just adore this Iris. Great big blooms…glorious color!

DSCN0476

My flowers on the trellis finally took off…I was worried about the hanging pots for a while…

DSCN0479

It is VERY cozy and private on the front stoop. That vine LOVES to get big and full!

It’s soooo cozy in fact …

DSCN0534

That this little guy has a nest in the top corner!!!

DSCN0531

I noticed it when I was pulling down the hanging baskets because of an incoming storm…the wind was very strong. I could hear babies chirping…so I looked for them…

DSCN0532

From what I can tell…the nest is right by the bright light on the left side of the photo…I didn’t want to get too close…and the wind was pushing the leaves around…so that is another view to try to capture at a later date!

DSCN0474

I added a pot of bacopa to the top of the bannister post…it is doing quite nicely there…and finishes the spot up nicely…( I think)

That is all that is blooming in the front yard…I do have one last thing that I would like to share…It is something I haven’t ever done before…and it is taking everything in me not to abort the mission…take a look at this!

DSCN0491

For the very first time in my life…I planted an entire flower bed…completely by way of direct seeding outside!….It is killing me!!!!

I used left over snap dragon seeds…poppy seeds…some Marigold seeds…Malva and lavatera seeds….if this works…it is going to look fantastic…if it doesn’t…I see some spare pots of wave Petunias…getting a relocation!!! ha-ha-ha!

Okay…your turn…Flaunt for me!

Next week…I am planning to share the ins and outs of the cottage garden….so…since I don’t have one of my own to use photos from…I am hoping maybe a few of you will email me a couple photos of your cottage garden???? I would love to share them in my post, and of course link back to you!!!

Hugs and smiles…hopes for all to have a safe and happy weekend…Thanks for popping in all week and for linking in today!!! I will see you very soon!

Until Next time…Happy Gardening…and Flaunting!

*)*)*) to my very special three…and to one in particular…sometimes when we take our gloves off…we get our hands dirty in such a way that they don’t come clean when we need them to…and we end up feeling ashamed of the way things look! Thanks for the giggles this week you three…I always love to see you visit…and the entertainment you provide is more than I can sometimes take! HUGS

  2. Your front yard is looking terrific. I've never seen grass that green living in the dry tropics as I do! It's an amazing colour. Your Iris is a stunner and I can understand why you're so pleased to see it return.

How wonderful to find a bird raising her chicks out on your front porch. It will be interesting to see if you can spot the little ones in the near future.

I think that directly-sown bed will take off well and look smashing ... just a little more patience!

  3. I am always so awed at how your gardens just seem to take off each year!! I so love the vines on your front porch! Everything is just beautiful friend!! Sure wish I had the same success with my plants!

I linked up an unusual post today but it really does have something in common with gardening.

  4. Your yard is absolutely beautiful! Down here in this Texas heat, it's hard to keep grass even half that green. :)
Glad you joined in Friendly Friday!

  8. Your gradens are always so lush and gorgeous!! Thant darn chickweed grows like wild fire!! Sometimes I try to trick myself into thinking it doesn't look that bad and hey it's good ground cover ..LOL but my brain says "oh no, pull that out!" LOL

What is in the pot by the bike in your front garden? I love the way it is "spilling" out.

I'm still on the search for an old bike.....but the budget just can't give for that now..but someday ;)

Have a great weekend! I will!!
    Wedding time for my oldest!

  9. Hi Tootsie, oh, it's good to see your garden all lush and beautiful again after the long, long winter. Your flowers are doing ever so much better than mine, you do have that magic 'Tootsie Touch'.

I can't wait to see how your direct-seeding experiment turns out, I've been tempted to do that a few times, too. Looks like the flowers are growing strong already, I bet it will be stunning!

  10. Hi,

Lovely blooms, and I love that a Sparrow has chosen to nest on your porch! So cute :)

  11. So beautiful Tootsie! Your lawn is so lush and healthy. I'm proud of you for direct sowing in the garden. Is your season long enough to do that? That's the main reason I thought you had a greenhouse was to get a good start on your limited growing season. Lovely Iris too.

  12. I love the look of the front of the house, especially the porch. What kind of vine is that and does it flower? Your lawn is unbelievably green and lush! Beautiful!

  13. I finally made it back on a Friday! Your gardens are beautiful and the beds look so crisp and groomed, lots of work.

  16. Your garden is awesome and your porch is really very beautiful, not only cozy! How lovely it is to have a bird nesting on your frontyard plants. We have our bird's on the lemon tree. Your garden has to be beautiful because you have invested a lot of man-hours in working on it.

  17. Hi Tootsie, Your gardens are very pretty, as always. I love the vine on the front porch. It looks a bit like Virginia creeper; is that what it is? We have that as a volunteer. It is pretty red in the fall. I will see if I can find some photos that you might like from my cottage garden, Tootsie.
    Blessings, Beth

  19. So, be truthful Tootsie. You painted that lush green color on your lawn, right?

The porch with the vine and the baby birds is so beautiful.

  21. Oh how I love your front stoop ... I've always wanted a house with a stoop or porch. The gardens are looking lovely and it won't belong till that hedge is growing bigger than the marigolds.

  22. Hi Tootsie! You have the garden that I aspire to have! I look forward to seeing more of your garden in the future!

  28. Those seeds will look fabulous. They are so easy to grow. Check my gardens, totally opposite of your style. I barely grow any annuals at all as my garden is too full of perennials.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I never get tired of looking at your yard Tootsie.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am glad you included some photos with your lighting of the vine. You can barely see the nest, but it's there. Seeding does require a certain amount of patience, it's true. I seeded some Mathiola, evening scented stock, near a back window for the scent and they are only 1 1/2 inches tall. Patience! lol. Your front stoop looks so inviting. How lovely!

I am linking up late, but I'm here! :)

  31. Your yard is so tidy! And the flowers are gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Looking good!! (as always is the case for your colorful gardens!) Larry

  33. You have one of the most immaculate lawns and gardens I have ever seen, Tootsie! I had to laugh when I read how many weeds you had pulled from just one bed. On our little farmstead, we actually cultivate weeds - no kidding. As one man's trash is another's treasure, I guess one gal's weeds are another's bouquet. lol

Stop in at my place to see why I say that. I'm link #42 And I'd love to have you link to my party, as well.

  34. I am absolutely bowled over by your gardens and containers...the colors, the imagination and design are so incredible...wow...I have cottage gardens but at this point many are still under weeds because of weather and time issues...

  38. Thanks for hosting Flaunt Your Flowers. I like what you have done with your front entrance. The vine and hanging baskets are so pretty. Your garden is increadably neat. Mine is a jungle in comparison.
P.S. I live in Huttonville which is on the outskirts of Brampton, which in turn is a suburb of Toronto.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today. I think you CAN grow Wisteria...I didn't think I could either and then I found Wisteria macrostachya 'Aunt Dee' which will grow in zone 4. You should look into it!
