Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Feb.14/14

Copy_of_001
Welcome!!!

I am so glad you stopped by today.   I love Friday’s…it is the start of the weekend…and…

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me really…there is no one else here…lol)  It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!!

Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!

If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?”

Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like.

The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted

I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

Well…It is about time that I shared something other than words about being behind and busy busy…so…

I am happy to share that I finally made my way out to the greenhouse and planted the Geraniums!   YAY!!!
BeFunky_050.jpg

BeFunky_105.jpg
Now…I just need to patiently wait for them to grow.   In the next few days, I hope to get out there and plant the petunias, and a few other things…but first…I need to clean up the HUGE mess in there and get organized!

I still have no time to play…life is so hectic these days…seems like the time flies right by…I have been putting in 18 hour days since the new year started and I am having a grand old time with everything!

Today is also a special day…9 years ago on February 14, 2005 the most beautiful special little girl arrived.  She brings nothing but pleasure into everyone’s life with her silly logic and her sweet smile.

My little “Busy” was born, and has been making us all smile every day since.   Happy Birthday Busy Bee!!!   We love you!

Well…That’s all for this Toots for this week.  Maybe…just maybe…if I get lucky, I will have something to share with you guys next week too!

It’s your turn now…So GO….FLAUNT!

You know you wanna!

Until Next Time....Happy Gardening!

*)*)*)...Sometimes the only encouraging words you need are, suck it up, and get over it.

Yep…I’m LATE.

Late to my own party…but at least I showed up!

I have not had one moment to even look at Tootsie Time, much less post anything new…and for that I am sad.   There are a lot of exciting things happening in my world right now, and these things are taking up most of my energy and time!

I started a business recently.   I didn’t intend for it to be a business…it was supposed to be a hobby…just a temporary little thing…but it seems to have taken a life of it’s own, and I had to go get a business started because I have had so many people interested!   This is why I have been so complacent about posting, commenting and visiting.   I just don’t have a lot of time!

Soon I will have things all ironed out, and the start up effort won’t be quite so huge…(I hope).   It will be then that I can get myself organized to have time for the greenhouse, the business, the kids and of course you guys!   Be patient with me…I am a single mom, (with three busy busy kids…and Grammie and Grampie won’t admit it, but they are a handful too!  hee hee), I have my job, and my business on top of the greenhouse and all the pets and household things that I do.   There are days that I wish there were two of me!

REGARDLESS of the reasons I am absent, please know that I appreciate each and every one of you who links in, comments and/or just pops in for a peek at what’s going on this week.   I will eventually get time, and the 100 year old house series will resume…as well as get back into sharing my greenhouse updates…but for the time being, the flaunting…well…it’s up to you guys…again.

So…get ready…it’s time to GET YOUR FLAUNT ON!

Until Next Time....Happy Gardening!

*)*)*)...U may not like me due to my honesty. But I'd rather have a backbone than a wishbone any day of the week!!

Time certainly does fly by when you are running your little heels off and working your little fingers to the bone!   I totally lost track of the days!

I have had a LOT on my plate again this week…and I still have not even ordered my seeds…I did manage to bring a few of the huge plants from the greenhouse into the house, so that I could start getting things set up to plant in there…I have some seed left from last year, and I intend to use them first.   I was supposed to have my soil by now…but that hasn’t happened…so I am waiting.   I can’t go pick up my soil until the roads improve in the place where I get it from…so I wait.

I won’t lie…I don’t mind waiting a few more days…it is cold out here again…and I am swamped with work, orders, and kid stuff right now.   Having a snow storm messing up the hi-way is almost a blessing for this girl right now…lol

Don't get me wrong...life is good...life is VERY good for my little family and I right now...We have peace, love and joy in our lives...and we are grateful for every minute of it.   There was a time when we never thought we'd have this...so...we are loving our busy lives...and enjoying every peaceful moment of them!

I loved looking at all of your posts last week…I didn’t have time to comment, so I just snooped ya and moved along…maybe this week I will have time to sit a little longer so that I can comment to each of you just a little.

Thank you to you all for participating…it is nice to see each of you each week.

I have one question very quickly before we get to your flaunt…if I were to do a give away…should I just post it and make a draw based on comments from that one post…or should I do something else?   I tend not to enter the contests that make you jump through a bunch of stupid hoops and like this or that…I want to give you a give away to show my appreciation for you guys…not torture you!   Let me know your thoughts on this…and I will get busy and post up when I get a minute to spare…in the mean time…

you guys….GET YOUR FLAUNT ON!

Until Next Time....Happy Gardening

*)*)*)...to one wink in particular…. Oh Sweetie....Don't ever act like your Glass house can't get Shattered. Sometimes people (you) aren't as "real" as they claim to be. You are fooling nobody but yourself
~ some people hold onto so much bitterness, resentment & jealousy! I for one, don't need those kinds of people in my life & won't waste another minute on them.
Ya, that's right I just said it, called you on your crap... and smiled while I was doing it!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GET SOME HELP….We all pray you do!   xoxo

There is nothing for me to share until I get my greenhouse up and running, so the flaunting is up to you guys this week.  When I look outside …all I see is snow.

This month,  I am exhausted.   Pooped.   Played right out.   Life has been very busy for this girl the past few weeks…and I wish there were more hours in a day, so I could get a few more things accomplished each week.

I have been pouring over seed books, and trying to figure out what to plant…and what didn’t work for me last year.   I have also been racking my brain trying to make my greenhouse a little bit more efficient in those DEEP cold days that are still to come.   I have not started planting yet, as I had some scary days last month in the greenhouse, where the temps fell dangerously low in there and I was at risk of losing all of my tropical plants to the cold.

Yep…I am nervous.

I am still needing bales of soil, and a few seeds…but there will be some things planted…soon I hope….so until this happens, the flaunting is all yours!

Whatcha waiting for????   Go!   Flaunt!

Until Next Time....Happy Gardening

This week I am celebrating EVERYONES birthday, by sharing this cute little thing I found while looking online for interesting and new flowers to plant in my yard this coming spring!  I decided that today was as good as any to share it...It isn't my flowers, but I haven't any to share...it is winter here!   So...I am sharing each month in flowers.

Traditional Birthday Flower Guide.
You have all heard of birth stones...and you have all heard of the traditional gift list....but have you heard of the traditional birthday flower guide? If you have not....today is your lucky day!
I found this online at a site called homestead garden.

Since it IS January...and we have a full year of birthday's to be ready for, I thought maybe everyone would enjoy seeing what the flower is for your birth month.

In Gem stones, I am an emerald...and in flowers I am a Lily of the Valley...(darn!  I wanted a better flower than that!  lol)    What are you?

January--Carnation

February--Violet
March--Jonquil
April--Sweet Pea or Daisy
May--Lily of the Valley
June--Rose

July--Larkspur
August--Gladiolus

September--Aster

October--Calendula

November--Chrysanthemum
December--Narcissus
I hope you enjoyed seeing which one you are! (at least no one is a Dandelion)

Until Next Time....Happy Celebrating (if it's your birthday!) :)

*)*)*)... Its not what you say, But how you say it..The tone of your words affect more than the words itself..

Welcome 2014!

Well friends, a new year is upon us, and it is cold cold cold here in Alberta Canada.   We have had freezing rains, frigidly cold weather and snow snow snow!  Myself…I am desperate for spring to come, as the winter months seem to drag on at a snail’s pace.  I want warm winds, spring rain and SUNSHINE!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and sent 2013 packing with a smile.   I wish for you all a great year to come, filled with all the good things life can offer, including love, good health and prosperity.

In spite of the bitter weather…2014 has come in with a smile for me.   I am in a good place in my life right now…busy, peaceful and happier than I thought I would ever be.   It feels good to be here…as you all know, there was a time that if anyone had told me that I would be even a fraction of this  happy 2 years ago, I would have told you that you were insane!

I have taken on a few new challenges this year, and I have been busy as a bee learning some new skills, and planning future projects…all of which I do plan to share with you all as soon as I can!    I plan to finish sharing the 108 year old house project (as I go along…and reveal a few changes I have been making inside my own house now.  I can’t hardly wait to get things finished up and share them!   It seems to take a lot longer to finish a project since I moved from the city to this little rural community.   If I don’t have the things I need to complete a project, the chances are pretty good that I will have to wait until I take a little road trip to a larger center to find what I need!   Be patient with me…I am working as fast as I can!  Smile

Our holiday break is almost over…Fertilizer Friday will resume it’s regular postings next week…  The post will be up in the early evening of January 16th!!!   I hope to see you all there with bells on!!!   I can’t wait to see what you all have to share from your greenhouses and gardens…

I have been snooping around in my seed catalogs at all the glorious flowers and plants that will inspire me to get planting the spring crop of annuals in the greenhouse.   Oh how I do love a little dirt therapy any time I can get it!

I have also been looking back at some past posts during our little break…and have made the decision to bring back a little thing that I used to do WAY back when Tootsie Time was young…The Q&A posts!   You guys remember them don’t you???   Those were the posts in which I did my best to answer questions that you all sent to me.   I really enjoyed those posts…and can’t wait to get started on another one or two!

So…What do you want to know?  Let me know!!!   You can send me your questions via my email…or you can simply pop them into the comments box at the end of this post…I moderate all comments, so they will not be published until AFTER I put up the post to answer! Smile

So….WELCOME 2014!!!   This is going to be an exciting year for us all…and I am just so excited to be able to share it all post by post with all of you….and equally excited to visit your pages and celebrate all of your lives too!
Enjoy the last week of our holiday break kids…we are about to get our Tootsie On very soon!

Until Next Time…Happy New Year!

I have had the busiest week…and I have not had any time to get out and take any photos in the greenhouse…so this is another week where it is up to you guys to do the flaunting!

Last Sunday my little family celebrated Christmas.  My children are leaving for a little time with their Dad this coming week, and we had to do our celebration last weekend, as it was the only available day that we all could attend.   I am spending time with the kids, working, doing all the mom stuff, and trying to get things organized for their trip to the US….so forgive me for being “absent” this week.

This will be the last week of flaunting for this year.   I know how busy this time of year is for us all, and I think we all could use a little break…so I will pick up where we all left off in the new year!

So…what are you waiting for???

Get your last Flaunt of 2013 ON!!!

You can link as many posts as you like…I don’t mind seeing lots!!!

Thank you all so much for all the wonderful comments  this week... and WELCOME to all my new followers…and to those that loyally follow me and faithfully link in to this party…AND who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…
THANK YOU!

I appreciate you more than you know.

Today…I have NOTHING….NOTHING new to share!   I looked through all my photos….even ones from years and years and years ago…and nothing really made my heart smile…so I didn’t choose but one photo to share today.
BeFunky_DSCN1304[9].jpg
This is my yard in 2011.  I was forced to leave this garden behind when I moved…and never actually realized how beautiful my yard was until I only get to look at it in photos.   It no longer looks anything near like this, but in my heart it will always be a beautiful labor of love.

This time of year is no fun for a gardener like me.   It is so cold outside that a girl could dangerously freeze her skin in seconds…one morning it was –36C with the wind chill.   That kind of cold is not good for anyone.

I can hardly wait until things look a little less frigid, and white in my gardens…and a little more like my flaunt for this week!

…So…Today I will be leaving the big flaunts up to you guys…Cheer me up please!

What are you waiting for???

GO!!!

Just a few short hours after I posted the party for last week’s flaunt, -- you know, the one where I was so super happy that we hadn’t even had one flake of snow fall in our area yet –  it happened.    Ya…it started to rain a little bit, and then the sun went down…and the flakes began…and it snowed…and snowed… and snowed!  ugh…I should have just kept my mouth SHUT!

We got almost a full foot of snow in our yard that night.   It was not a good thing that it started out as rain…that made for a mess of ice under all the snow…and that is never a good thing.
So…I thought I would share the first snowfall with you all today…and the gardener’s version of a snow angel.
BeFunky_020.jpg To some…this is pretty…to me…it’s just depressing!   It is cold, dreary and gets dark VERY early.  It means no playing out in the garden for a long time!
BeFunky_019.jpg
I am so glad to have a greenhouse that I can go to when I need a little dirt therapy!

On days when it is warm enough to go outside and enjoy a little fresh air, it is always fun to make…
BeFunky_!cid_0120010801.jpg
…a few snow flowers to get us by until the real thing can get growing outside again!

They are just done with one foot!  lol

Well….that’s it for me for today…

SO?   What are you waiting for???

GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Nov. 1/13

Do you know what day it is???

It’s Friday !!!!

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol)  It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!!

Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!

We made it another week in my area of Alberta with not even one flake of snow!   YAY!!!  I has been cold outside…but no snow is no snow!!!  hee hee!

I have been a busy girl again, and today I decided to share the neglected greenhouse in my back yard.   I will be busy finishing getting it all fixed up for winter next week…so today you are going to see a mess!
BeFunky_013.jpg
Right now, my greenhouse is doing fine.  It needs a winterized ceiling…(plastic sheet to hold the warm air in) and needs to be organized.  I started to do this when it decided to get cold at night…so I just have the walls done and the floor in…There are a LOT of big plants in here right now.  I have got 4 Banana plants…that are doing VERY well…One is only 2 feet tall, one three feet, and one 4 feet…They normally don’t last too long in this area…so I was confident that I would not have to worry about making a lot of room for them.   WELL…joke’s on ME!
BeFunky_006.jpg
This Banana is going to take over soon.  It is now over 5 feet tall and pretty much just as wide!!   When I brought it inside, it was only about 3 feet tall!  It is certainly happy in the greenhouse right now!
BeFunky_008.jpg
My 12 year old Geranium is blooming happily in the greenhouse right now.  I didn’t bring her outside this year at all…I have had her way too long to risk her dying on me!
BeFunky_009.jpg
My Christmas Cactus is about to bloom again for the 4th time this year…I love the blooms on this plant…so vibrant…they cheer a gardener up when it’s dreary and cold outside!
BeFunky_023.jpg
It is just LOADED with buds!

I have a feeling that we will be seeing THIS lovely being flaunted again.

Well….that’s it for me for today…

SO?   What are you waiting for???

GO!!!

We made it another week in my area of Alberta with not even one flake of snow!   YAY!!!  The weather has actually been lovely!  With the exception of Tuesday, it has been warm and sunny outside.
I haven’t really been outside much to enjoy that warm weather…as I have been running my little rump off working on a myriad of different things.   I just wish I could make two of me, so I could be everywhere that I need to be, AND play online all day!  My apologies for not making it around to visit you guys last week.   It is getting crunch time to get things done before the end of the month, and I am almost there!
Anyways…back to the flaunt.   I am breaking the rules this week just a little bit.   My flaunt isn’t growing…heck it isn’t even real…but it is out in the garden, so I am doing it anyways.
BeFunky_015.jpg
When we all met last week…I showed you photos of my house with NOTHING growing in the gardens. It looks VERY sad.   Winter stinks on ice and I just can’t wait for spring to arrive here.  I had posed the question to you about what I should do with the window boxes that hang on the house… there were a lot of great suggestions from you guys!
What I decided to do…was go faux!
BeFunky_019.jpg
It gets nasty outside in this area.   Last week we had horribly strong winds…and that only gets worse when winter arrives.   Putting real evergreen branches in the window boxes would have been ideal, but not practical.
I happened to have a bunch of long strands of faux evergreen garland sitting in the storage unit waiting for me to either discard it or use it.   I came across it, and thought that maybe I could use it in the boxes!   It is made of wire, so it can be secured to the window boxes tightly, and easily.   It will withstand the cold, snow and wind of an Alberta winter…and…the best part…I already have it…so I don’t have to do a thing to obtain it!
BeFunky_020.jpg
I used two 7 foot strands in each box.   I didn’t want them to look too poofy…or too spindly either.   I wired it on…and attached it to different parts of the boxes…to look like it was trailing.
BeFunky_017.jpg
I am not sure about adding anything to them.   I don’t have any extra plug in space to add lights to them…and most of the ornaments around this area are for inside…the cold will make them crack and peel…and if I added pine cones…they will just be hidden by the snow when it falls…SO…I think they can just be filled with the faux greens…I am happy with that for now.
I already had some comments on them by people going past on the street…they don’t think it needs anything either.
What do you think?   Does it look okay?  I would love to hear you chime in!

Well….that’s it for me for today…

SO?   What are you waiting for???
GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

So?????....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...
This week, I finally had to admit defeat and let summer go.   I pulled the last of my yard, and put things to bed for the LONG Alberta winter that is looming above our heads.
BeFunky_011.jpg
Industrial drum liners are just big enough to protect my rocking chairs from the elements a bit…I also covered a few other things for the winter.
BeFunky_012.jpg
The front yard is drastically different from last week…it is so empty!   I am thinking about putting some Christmas greens in the window boxes…but need an idea to slap me in the face to motivate me!  lol
BeFunky_013.jpg
I hate how dreary an messy and ugly everything is at this time of year…winter is WAY too long!
BeFunky_014.jpg
I wish we lived in a climate that it got  cool out…but that I could still grow things outside…That would be okay for me…but this 8 or 9 months of dreary cold dead winter is just too much!  Since there is nothing I can do to change things…
BeFunky_015.jpg
I need to come up with an idea to spruce up this view just a little…any suggestions???
BeFunky_016.jpg
I am open to suggestions…those window boxes need to be filled with something…so let me have it!
Well….that’s it for me for today…

SO?   What are you waiting for???
