Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers July 13/12

Copy_of_001

HAPPY FRIDAY AGAIN!!!! Welcome to the party!

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol) It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!! Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!
If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?”
Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:
If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing! You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly! All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted.
So....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

I am still out and about on Vacation!!! Until I get home, I am going to leave the flower flaunting to you guys! I will, however share a special “weed." I have been growing this particular variety now for about 13 years.

DSCN0432

This particular weed goes by the pet name “Duch” or “Duchy” (pronounced DOOCH….or DOOCHIE) …(as he’s called around home)

On July 10 1999, I became a mom for the first time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUD!!! YOU ARE OFFICIALLY A TEENAGER!!! (UGH…I don’t like the sound of that…ha ha)

My Bud has been the love of my life since the first moment I saw him! I am so proud of all that he has done and at what a great kid he has been. (mostly…ha ha)

I am lucky that he is usually around to give me a hand whenever I am desperate enough to ask…and hugs when I need them. He is a good kid…smart, athletic and best of all he’s mine!

DSCN3101

He has grown up so fast!!! Like a WEED!

I hope your birthday was wonderful! I can’t wait for you to come home and have a celebration with me! Arizona is nice…but mom’s place is HOME.

IMAG0291

I am sure he has that look on his face right now as he reads this sappy stuff!

Love you Baby!!! xoxo

I also want to wish the two crazy “gnome-rs” my mom and dad…(a.k.a Grampie and Grammie)…

DSCN3619

…Happy Anniversary!!! Without you…neither Me or my Bud would exist! We love you loads…and are lucky to have you! Did you find the gnome I put in your yard to celebrate the 11th of July…Your special day!

It is pretty bad when this is the only photo I have of you guys standing together …taken while I was laying under a shrub across the street, watching you discover all the gnomes I had hidden in your yard! ha ha! Love you guys!

ok…there is this one too…

DSCN0397

Maybe some up to date family photos are in order here???? Perhaps some that include all of us with smiles??? At least one where Grammie isn't making a face would be fabulous! ha ha! uh huh…that is me in the photo with them!

This brings us to the end of my slightly unusual flaunt for this week. Now it is your turn…bring it on! (keep in mind, I will be away from my computer…and that I moderate all my comments, so with that being said, be patient with me…I will do my best to get online and publish what comments you leave as often as possible…but I will more than likely not be around to drool over your flaunts until I get home.)

What are you waiting for??? Get flaunting!

Wishing all of you hugs, smiles, and safe and happy weekend plans! Thank you all so much for dropping in today, and to those that faithfully link in to this party…and who are patient while waiting for me to finally visit you…THANK YOU!

Until Next Time….Happy Gardening!

The Plucking Story

For a long time now, I have been going through some difficult things in my life. I have leaned on some of the strongest and kindest people to get through all of it. Those people know who they are, and know how much I appreciate them all…I am forever grateful to all who have offered me such comfort. I found much comfort from many of you online, and from a few true friends that live here. It was sometimes easier to share with my online friends, because they were non threatening...non judgmental and they were offering an unconditional comfort simply because they cared. I thank you all who have such beautiful hearts. It is now my turn to offer some unconditional love.

It has come to my attention that there are a few of my favorite people going through similar difficult times, and I wanted to share a story that gave me comfort when I needed it. It was told to me by a lady from victim services one day when I was in the deepest depths of my despair…and I have thought about it a lot ever since. Often during my darkest hours this story would somehow comfort me and make me feel like there was hope.

Ladies…this one is for you…I hope it stays with you…and reminds you that you are never alone…ever…and that this is just a stop on the way to a beautiful transformation for you.

"Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it." ~ Lou Holtz

She arrived into his life a brilliant bird with crimson feathers. She delighted him, intrigued and amazed him. Soon, he asked if he may pluck just one feather, and she let him. But then as they grew to know each other longer, he plucked another one and then another and another. As the days of courting ceased, he took the liberty to pluck a few more, this time without asking.

Gradually, he was taking her feathers when she was not looking, until she noticed one day that patches of her body were just about bare! But, there were still lots of feathers left she realized…and she was relieved.

As the days wore on, he found her less and less radiant. Splotches of white skin were showing here and there, peeking out trough her few remaining soft scarlet feathers. He still continued the plucking of these feathers late late at night when she was defenseless and tired …or at weak moments when she needed him most.

One morning, after he had gone, she looked at herself in the full length mirror (something she has become increasingly reluctant to do these days) and saw that she was completely bare. Not a feather left. Nothing. She was a bald, pale, naked, embarrassed bird. She did not even look like a bird anymore at all.

“I wonder what he has done with all of my feathers…” she said to herself. “He must surely have wanted them for something.”

As the day wore on, she looked around the house. She found a couple of her beautiful crimson feathers in the ashtray under the butts and ashes. There were a few amongst the dust and lint behind the television. He had been using one to apply glue and it was caked and dried on the table beside his model airplanes. A bunch of her feathers had been used to wipe up paint and were wedged into a corner on dirty newspapers…and downstairs, she found a whole pile of them that had been stuffed along with old worn socks and broken shoes into a big plastic garbage bag.

“My lovely crimson feathers!” she thought, shivering and nude in the cold.

He called her later that day to tell her he didn’t need her anymore, so she went off alone to try to recuperate and wait for her feathers to grow back. It was not easy for her… she was afraid, broken and alone. It took a long long time…it ALWAYS did.

The little bird went off alone to think about what she needed and wanted to do to begin healing and regaining her feathers back. The little bird realized that she could not do it alone, and that she needed to talk.

She sought out a group of other birds, that had the same number of feathers as she did….NONE. There, in that group of birds, the little bird felt protected and safe. She had found a haven where she could begin to grow new feathers. These beautiful new feathers were bigger and stronger than before. Still alone and frightened, the little bird began to take piece by piece, the nurturing from her new found flock. She found the hope and strength to keep on working on healing herself. She struggled each day with reminding herself that it was possible to get the feathers back and that it was not her fault that she had lost them in the first place.

Within the group, the little bird learned not to blame herself. She began to get stronger as a result of her experiences within the group. Every day, she took a little time to love herself. When she needed to, the little bird called on the strength and support of the group. Day by day, the little bird found herself getting healthier and stronger.

As her feathers started growing back, she began to notice the brilliant colors of her feathers and she began to notice the beauty within herself. What she noticed most about her feathers was that they were equally as beautiful as they had been in the past, but that they were stronger and they were un-pluckable.

Her feathers were warmer and they protected the little bird when she needed to be protected from others. Then the day came that the little bird realized she had enough feathers and that she could choose to give some away…but only to fellow givers.

The little bird chose to never associate with takers again. Now that she had her lovely strong feathers, she decided that it was time for her to spread her wings and fly….AGAIN.

red-tanager_12759_100x75

I do hope you enjoyed my little story today…and to those who needed to hear it…I hope it helps. I am sending you each a great big hug…and reminding you that there is always a friend right here, if you should need one. You know who you are!

Until next time….love ya!!

Happy Father’s Day

I am so lucky to still have my Dad to love.
037_thumb58_thumb
If you take a good look at the photo above…look at those eyes. My Dad’s eyes are the window to his soul. You always know how he is, by looking at his eyes. Those eyes are full of mischief!
His eyes have laugh lines. He loves to laugh and to make other’s laugh too. Those eyes also show years of life, love and hard work. I love my Dad’s eyes, and I am lucky enough to have inherited his “big blues”.
He is a stinker at times…playing pranks on his favorite people. He loves a good joke…and is just about he silliest man I have ever met. Our newest game is to “gnome” each other.
Being my Dad isn’t always easy. My life has been a very stressful event in general for several years now…and is just now starting to settle into a happy calm place.
305_thumb[2]
I have noticed the change in your face Dad, posture and even the sparkle in your eyes came back this last week or so.
DSCN1010_thumb[5]
You seem to have let the proverbial breath out that you have been holding in just for me.
DSCN1020_thumb[5]
We all love your playful self…and appreciate you for always being the best Dad…
017_thumb[4]
and most wonderful Grampie!
098_thumb[4]
Thank you Dad for being there for me and the kids…being so supportive and for all the worry and concern you had for us all during the whole ordeal. I sure hope it is all over forever!
Happy Father’s Dad Grampie!!! I hope you have a great day with us out “gnoming” around!
037_thumb[58]
“Dad, you've always been there for me and I don't think I've ever really said thank you.
No matter where I was or what you were doing,
You came to my aid and rescued me.
But I don't think I really said thank you.
You showed me a path, I couldn't find alone.
You showed me how to succeed, without giving up me.
And strangely, I don't think I ever said thank you.
You picked me up, whenever I fell.
You took heat for me and were badly hurt.
But again, I don't think I ever said thank you.
I've been in your life for 41 years.
There are so many things that you have done for me.
And yet again, I still don't think I said thank you.
You have shared your words of wisdom.
You have taught me well on life's lessons.
Yet, I have this lingering feeling that I have not said thank you.
I have watched you rise, I have watched you fall.
No matter what happens though,
I am still grateful, that you are in my life.
You've taught me well to be who I am and again,
I have not said thank you.
I want to change that, right now.
THANK YOU DAD, for everything you have ever said or done,
To make my life better, the way it is today.
THANK YOU DAD, for showing me the right path,
For giving me the love and support only a father could give to his daughter.
THANK YOU DAD, for being the man that you are today,
For being the man, you've always been.
THANK YOU DAD, for seeing the light and staying with us,
And for helping me be the woman I am now.
THANK YOU DAD, for all of your hard work and compassion.
For looking after your family like a real man should.
And THANK YOU DAD, for teaching my children as you taught me when I was younger,
And for still teaching me today.
Life is a lesson hard to learn, but worth the effort.
As long as I have you by my side, nothing is impossible.
THANK YOU DAD, for just being you. “

Love you Grampie!!!
Big hugs and smiles, and safe and happy weekend plans to all who visit today!! See you again next week!

A Thought For Mother’s Day

As I look back on my life
I find myself wondering...
Did I remember to thank you
for all that you have done for me?
DSCN0427
For all of the times you were by my side
to help me celebrate my successes
and accept my defeats?
DSCN0422
Or for teaching me the value of hard work, good judgement, courage, and honesty?
DSCN0423
I wonder if I've ever thanked you
for the simple things...
The laughter, smiles, and quiet times we've shared? DSCN0401
If I have forgotten to express my gratitude
For any of these things,
I am thanking you now...
and I am hoping that you've known all along,
how very much you are loved and appreciated.

I love that you have a great sense of humor…you joke about little things…and are such a good sport when I post the crazy adventures we have…for example: The day we went junkin’ alone and got the crap scared out of us…”run Grammie RUN!”
141_thumb[38]
you can click the photo to go to this post…it was fun to laugh that hard!
007_thumb[4]
You have walked through fire with me the last while Grammie…I am grateful for all that you do…without your example, I would not be as strong as I am today. I hope we have a great day together today. I hope that because I was so nice...and didn't put some of the OTHER photos of you on here...you will have mercy on me and not make me try on or buy a dress!!! Love you Grammie (AKA Kernel, Mom,)
Until Next Time….Happy Mother’s Day!!!

Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers May 11/12

THIS FRIDAY IS A VERY SPECIAL FRIDAY!!! DO YOU KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS????? keep reading …you will soon find out!

Copy_of_001

HAPPY FRIDAY AGAIN!!!! I am SO glad to see you!
So....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

I am not flaunting this week…I have something a little bit different planned for you today. I am so happy to share this Friday Post with you all …as it is a VERY special post for a VERY special Weekend! Not only is it time for the Friday Flaunt…and it IS Mother’s Day this weekend…BUT….

This Saturday Tootsie turns another year older…and Tootsie Time Turns 4!!!! Happy birthday to Tootsie Time!!!

Today is special for a couple of reasons....the first is that it is my birthday today. I am now celebrating my 41st year of life. ugh
The second...TOOTSIE TIME IS 4 YEARS OLD TODAY!!!

Yes...Tootsie Time is 4!

I have had such a wonderful time with this whole blog adventure...and for three years I have been typing away every chance I get to visit and to post. I hate that life is so busy that I don’t get to visit you all as often as I would like to, but soon…I will have a routine going on, and life will settle down a lot…and I WILL be there to return all the visits I have missed returning in the last while.

Four years ago today, (May 12 2008) I started Tootsie Time as a birthday gift to myself. Four years ago…I was a sad, scared girl, who loved to garden, and share the blooms of my labors with my online family. You all have walked a long difficult journey with me, through hell and back…to take me to where I am today….and for that I would like to say THANK YOU !!!

When I first started Tootsie Time, I began to slowly write, and was so thrilled when I had a whole 20 followers...today...I have over 850 precious followers! I had no idea when I began that this was going to be so much fun and so very rewarding.

May 2008

Me when I started Tootsie Time

My life has changed dramatically over the past three years…for the better…I never dreamed I could be the person I am today! I am proud of who I have become…and of the happiness I have been blessed to find!

IMG000208

When I think about how much this little adventure has given to me I get a lump in my throat. What began as something to distract me from some upsetting issues in my life, has become a hobby that gives me more than I had ever imagined.

033

Many of you have been my shoulders to lean on during the most difficult times of my life. Without all the love and support from my online family, I would surely have given up. My friends and family are very important to me…online and off.

Thank you for all of the inspirations, motivations, hugs, and support, good times, giggles and tears that we all have shared. I love that many of you have offered me an unconditional friendship that extends many many miles. I have enjoyed telephone visits, letters and gifts…I just simply have enjoyed all of you!

036

Blogging is a great way to express ourselves, connect with friends all over the world, and learn about the differences we all have. Without each of you, I would not have become the person I am today! My life has changed dramatically over the past three years…for the better…I never dreamed I could be the person I am now!

I am proud of who I have become…and of the happiness I have been blessed to find! The followers I have are more than just friends...they have become family to me. I am a very lucky girl!

DID YOU KNOW???

Did you know tht the chopping down of the Christmas Tree represents the death of Christ and putting it back up again represents the resurrection of Christ?
Did you know tht the wreaths we hang are never ending circles, that represents eternity?
Candy canes were made to look like sheperd hooks and the colors red, Jesus's blood, white, purity?
The gifts represents the gifts the wise men brought for Jesus?
Sooooo....when you are running around trying to get the "perfect gift", stop yourself, take a deep breath and remember we have been given the perfect gift. Jesus Christ was given to us to remove all of our sins.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU JESUS!!!!
Until Next Time......MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!
*)*)*) to my special three...I know you are loving my posts...and Itruely so pray that this Christmas will bring to your heart a softness that has been missing. Letting go of all the self loathing that causes you to abuse those who you should admire, love and appreciate. And to ONE of you in particular....if your nasty comments continue...your Christmas gift from me will in fact be a restraining order wrapped up in police charges!! HUGS!

…For My Followers! (and a Fertilizer Friday Announcement)

I am so happy you stopped by!
I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Due to the Holidays being so very close, I have decided to forfeit our weekly flaunt until Jauary 6, 1012. Fertilizer Friday is getting a teensy little break!
Copy_of_001
This is a very busy time of year for everyone, and with friends and family gathering together…time is of the essence!!!
(¯`•._) MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!(¯`•._)
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
(¯`•._)HAPPY NEW YEAR!! (¯`•._)
I found this little poem online, and thought I would share it all with you today. It is my “card” to everyone this year, as, I DID write out all the beautiful cards, addressed all of the envelopes, and even added postage to most of them. I then proceeded to pack them into a box…and have NO idea where that box is!!! Therefore…you will not receive a Christmas card from me this year….No one will…but maybe…with any luck…I will locate those cards …and you will be getting TWO cards from me next year! haha!
The poem reads:

A Christmas Poem

by Helen Steiner Rice

I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book
And every year when Christmas comes, I go and take a look,
And that is when I realize that these names are a part
Not of the book they are written in, but really f my heart
For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime,
And in the meeting they've become the rhythm in each rhyme
And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim,
I really feel that I'm composed of each remembered name
And while you may not be aware of any special link
Just meeting you has changed my life a lot more than you think
For once I've met somebody, the years cannot erase
The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face
So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routine
Of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between,
For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you,
It is because you're on the list that I'm indebted to
For I am but a total of the many folks I've met,
And you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget
And whether I have known you for many years or few,
In some ways you have a part in shaping things I do
And every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew,
The best gifts life can offer is meeting folks like you.
And may the spirit of Christmas that forever endures
Leave its richest blessings in the hearts of you and yours.

I will be back very soon with more of my renovation posts!!! Thanks for stopping in today, and for the comments filled with wonderful feedback!
Until Next Time…Happy Holidays!!!
*)*)*) to my three winks: Love me or hate me, both are in my favor..If you love me, I'll always be in your heart..If you hate me, I'll always be in your mind ~Shakespeare~ I wish you all that you so richly deserve for 2012... hugs!

A How-To… And a Smile!

Hey all!!! I got this in an email today and thought I’d share it with you. As I read this email I was very serious and concern was growing for my friend… This is what she wrote me:

“My dear friends, Somewhat embarrassing to admit, I'm not getting an annual bonus and Christmas is tight this year. I will be making bedroom slippers for you all as gifts.

Please let me know your sizes. You'll most likely agree that it's a splendid idea, and should you wish to do the same, I've included the instructions below.

How to make bedroom slippers out of maxi pads:

You need four maxi pads to make a pair.

Two of them get laid out flat, for the foot part.

The other two wrap around the toe area to form the top.

Tape or glue each side of the top pieces to the bottom of the foot part.

Decorate the tops with whatever you desire, silk flowers (this is most aesthetically appealing), etc.

These slippers are:

* Soft and Hygienic

* Non-slip grip strips on the soles

* Built in deodorant feature keeps feet smelling fresh

* No more bending over to mop up spills

* Disposable and biodegradable

* Environmentally safe

* Three convenient sizes:

(1.) Regular, (2.) Light and (3.) Get out the Sand Bags.

I've attached a photo of the first pair I made so that you can see the nifty slippers for yourself.

... Awaiting your response. It's crucial that I get the right size for each one of you.”

image0011maxipad slippers by sue

….as you may have figured out…she is just as silly as I am! I loved this little home made joke and thought you might get a kick out of it too!!!

hee hee!!!!!!!!

Until next time…Happy (ahem) ‘crafting’

*)*)*) to my three winks…I am strong because I know my weaknesses. I'm alive because I'm a fighter.I am wise because I've been foolish. I laugh because I've known sadness.

Once Upon a Time…

…in a land not so far away…
A silly man,
DSCN1025
…ahem…VERY silly man, went for a ride on his lawnmower.
As he was driving along, mowing grass and posing provocatively on his machine…he happened upon an equally silly woman who was also mowing some grass…

…errr she would be if she could get that clutch pushed all the way in.
The silly couple fell in love and lived happily ever after.

The kids and I had a great weekend with you guys…it’s always so much fun to hang out together! Luv Ya!
Until next time…Happy Monday!
*)*)*) to my special three…I am grateful that the only limitations I have are the ones I create. No one chooses for me. I decide who and where I want to be. I’ve never been happier…thank you! Be careful of how you bounce the ball because it might bounce back and whack you in the head... just sayin’!

More Than Just My Father…He’s My Dad.

Its Father’s day again, and I have written post after post about my Dad. (click the word post to read more about him) He is the very silly Grampie we all know and love to see on here once and a while. He is always good for a smile. Today’s tribute will have a lot of silly in it…and some sap too. :)
I have been blessed with a Dad that I can be proud of. In making this post, I was perusing a few old albums, and realized that my Dad has been here for almost every pivotal moment of my life…and then some.
DSCN0397
He held me close…(even wen I didn’t smell so good…look at Grammie’s face…pretty sure that’s what it means)
we also had similar hair dos…
DSCN0401
He was there for everything…
DSCN0404
Always invoking a smile from the “Boogie/ Leenie” (me)
DSCN0403
He protected us all from Evil (hmm…maybe it was the pants…nope…it was the shirt)
DSCN0430
He is a very snappy dresser…always up with the latest fashions.
DSCN0405
He made sure I always had wonderful toys to play with, and demonstrate at length for him…(and I do mean at LENGTH…haha) (I also might add that all of the items in that photo…including me…are still in the family!)
DSCN0423
He taught me to be the creative girl I am today…(wait…is that the bowl from my potty????) Maybe I should have gotten a lampshade instead. lol Just sayin’ This photo always brings to mind the phrase "shit for brains" hahaha
DSCN0408
I used to love sitting in my swings…
DSCN0409
…especially when my Dad came home for lunch to sit with me! we must have been swinging fast…see the blur??? hee hee!
DSCN0410
He always shared his toys with me…(bet there’s Buddy Holly or the Beatles playin’…maybe the Beach Boys?)
DSCN0411
He used to love to dance with my sister and me…and again…I ask you to note…the fashion statement he made…
DSCN0412
He took our family lots of places…I think this is the Calgary Zoo…(of all the things I got from my dad…I wish I had gotten the skinny gene!)
DSCN0413
He was always so proud of his family!
(it appears that we are all smelling something unpleasant…I bet it’s the one with the big smile who stinks) *)
DSCN0414
We were kinda cute weren't we??? (Man did she ever have a devilish smile! lol)
My Dad (as was my Mom) was there for all of the very memorable moments of my life…
DSCN0415
…Always cracking a joke or smiling about something…
He has been there proudly smiling …
DSCN0436
When I graduated High School...
DSCN0433
....When I had my first baby! (I suppose I could put on this one that he loves me when I’m not so cute…hahaha and again I say…why not give me the skinny gene??)
DSCN0434
His very first grandson is his biggest admirer now…
DSCN0432
…and just like he loved me when I didn’t smell so good…he endures.
Did I ever tell you my Dad has always been my hero???
DSCN0427
He was such a good protector…risking life an limb to rescue me from the scariest of monsters! (I bet she had an evil lair somewhere that she would have taken me to!!!) Luv You Grammie…hee hee!
My Dad was there for the good the bad…he was there for everything. He proudly helped pick out my grad dress…and it was gorgeous…hoop and all..
DSCN0436
He was the pivotal vote in the choosing and design of my wedding gown…
DSCN0416
He was there with bells on the day I wore it by mistake! *)
But all joking aside…
DSCN0438
I am who I am today largely because of my Dad.
Life Lessons
You may have thought I didn't see,
Or that I hadn't heard,
Life lessons that you taught to me,
But I got every word.
DSCN0402
Perhaps you thought I missed it all,
And that we'd grow apart,
But Dad, I picked up everything,
It's written on my heart.
DSCN0425
Without you, Dad, I wouldn't be
The (TOOTSIE) I am today;
You built a strong foundation
No one can take away.
DSCN0421
I've grown up with your values,
And I'm very glad I did;
So here's to you, dear father,
From your forever grateful kid.

Thanks for everything Dad…without you and Mom…me and the kid’s lives wouldn’t be so full. The gang and I can hardly wait to celebrate Father’s day with you!
Happy Father’s Day from your oldest junkin Kid! Love you!
I so hope you all have a wonderful Father’s day!
Until Next time…Happy Father’s Day!
