Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Aug 20/10

Today’s Fertilizer Friday comes with not one but two twists! The first is that I am sharing another non-blogger’s garden…the second is…she wants suggestions for her spaces!

Copy_of_001

Hello Bloggers/ Gardeners/ Friends!!!! It’s Friday again already and that means it’s time to flaunt our flowers, gardens and all things green!

Now if you are not familiar with the rules of this little party…here they are;

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

Your post must include the logo above and a link to Tootise Time, or the linky will be deleted. I don’t mean to be harsh, but there have been a lot of people linking in and when the participants graciously click over to their blogs, there is no sign of Fertilizer Friday anywhere to be found. This is not fair to those who do follow the rules, therefore…well you know!

So? what are you waiting for? Get outside, feed, water, snap and post!

This week I am again featuring someone else’s garden! The following photographs are from a wonderful lady named Alma (a.k.a. Ann) . She lives in Knoxville Ark. U.S. A. and has been faithfully following my blog for a while now. She is a non-blogger and doesn’t comment either (shame on her! ha-ha)

This is what ‘Ann’ had to say:

“…the yard has several rock flower beds and a rock bridge. we’ve lived here about 8 yrs, the previous owners were the gardeners. About the only thing we did was landscape the front yard up next to house. we have about 22 acres, the yard is about 2 acres. deer eat everything in site so I got a Bassett hound to keep them at bay. although I'm a master gardener I don’t do a lot in the yard these days”

She sent me some photos a long while ago and asked for some suggestions. I have not had a lot of spare time lately, so I am going to add a my two cents here and there…and then you great and ever creative gardeners…are going to be asked for your suggestions too!

Lets take a look at her garden photos. There are some early spring ones…and some fairly recent ones…I can say..I would love to get my mitts on her spaces!!! They are lovely!

cc

Alma!!! What an adorable house!!!!

bb

Look at the beautiful foliage! I think the wheels are adding just the right amount of ‘junk style’ for me! I love the charm of them leaning up against the raised stone planter. I love junk!(maybe I should get me a raised stone planter…..hmmmm) FOCUS TOOTSIE!!!

bb3

Now…who can’t fall in love with a sidewalk lined on both sides with flowers and plants??? I love it. LOVE IT!!! Look! another little peek at her house…what a lucky girl not to have to deal with siding or stucco that rock is just wonderful! It is very charming.

bb4

Now this is a shot she sent me in early spring…see the wagon wheels??? I just can say that this woman is lucky good old Tootsie doesn’t live next door…cuz those wheels would have taken a little trip to Tootsie -ville!

bb2

Here is that same space now…very natural…and subtle. I love the flowers poking their way over the stone planter and trailing…I think she should stick a bench somewhere in here to sit and just gaze. It think this area is part of her driveway…her fabulous driveway…

bb7

Yep!!! I said fabulous!!! Who wouldn’t want a driveway lined with stone walls and a bridge to boot!!!? OH!… do you see those cone cast planting baskets??? Oh I WISH! This was an early spring photo…I wonder what ever she did with these this season? Alma? send some more photos!!!

bb8

Is That a YUCCA????? I wish! They only grow here in the house…I am totally in love with the finish on her house!!!

bb6

I think this is her veggie garden area…am I right?

13

I’m not sure, but I think this might be the same area…at another angle. I am loving that pedestal girl! It also seems you have the rocks that I have been looking for! (again…be lucky you are not closer! )

10

This view is very inviting to me…I love the trees and the way the path goes around the bend.

11

What would you do here?

12

The old pump and another wheel…looks like a project in the making for this gal…I love those stone wall planters!!!

alma

And a nice photo of Alma and her pooch…aren’t they both just as cute as can be?

Love the red furniture Alma!!!

Alma’s daughter owns a commercial greenhouse…so she has lots of access to plants I am sure…what she needs is LOW MAINTENANCE, as she does not have the time or energy anymore to do a lot of yard and garden work. So…what do you guys think? What should Alma do? She is waiting for suggestions!!!

Thank you Alma for sharing your garden with us today…and for being a follower of Tootsie Time. I appreciate all of my followers…and when I reach 500, I am having a giveaway!

Okay guys…time’s a wastin’ ! Leave some comments, suggestions or questions for me…(and Alma) and then head out to visit some of the other gardeners that are gracious enough to join in on Fertilizer Fridays!

To those who are missing my gardens this week…simply scroll down two posts…to get a peek at what it looked like last week.

I can hardly wait to share with you another project that I finished putting together yesterday…I have been working on it for a while now…and managed a couple injuries in the process…(including my eyes) ha-ha…so come back here first thing Monday to see! My eyes are very sore and this is part of the reason I have not been on visiting you all much...the computer screen hurts!

Until then!!! Hugs and smiles…safe and happy weekends…to you all…and to those very special three…(who lurk in the shadows) who admire me so much that they just can't stay away, happy thoughts of....ME! AND...I send you three big winks! ;) ;) ;) (you know who you are!) {8-)

She has a beautiful home and charming yard, but not sure what to tell her to do. Thanks for hosting this party. I work in the yard all the time.

Hi Tootsie... I do admire Alma's beautiful stone house... and so much land... wow!! Personally, I would find it difficult to make suggestions for plantings without a knowledge of the zone where her garden is located, the ph of the soil and so on. As always, Larry

Wow! This is gorgeous! My senior mom will love to see it as well! And if Alma isn't doing much gardening, I'm guessing it's one of those great looking, yet easy maintenance landscaping designs - perfect for the Baby Boomer generation caring for elderly parents. Sounds wonderful! :)

Oh my! What a lovley garden!! Alma your home is beautiful!! I love the way your garden is so natural looking. I also love it the way it is! I know, I know, that's not what you want to hear. It reminds me of the woods we lived near in Alaska. Love the wooded feeling. I would add a few benches/seats here and there. I've heard Deer don't like Hostas and I think I see some in your photos. If they are easy to care for maybe add some more?

I know, I'm not much help ;)LOL

Hi Tootsie, I hope your eyes are feeling better, now you have me worried! Can't wait to find out what happened....

Alma's garden is fantastic, I love her house too, how pretty. I hope the dog chases away the deer,no fun gardening when plants disappear overnight.

Thank you for featuring Alma's garden, what a treat!

Hope you feel better soon,
Karen

Hi Tootsie
Sorry I forgot the logo earlier. Hope it's ok now.

Gee, Alma's got such a big space to play in!

Have a nice weekend, Ev

Alma's home and gardens are beautiful! I would suggest low maintaince perennials of varying heights. I think a mix of pink, purple, and yellow blooming plants would create a lovely bright spot. However, I am unfamiliar with deer resistant plants that grow well in Alma's area. I'm sure some of the southern gardeners will have some brilliant suggestions!

Hi Tootsie, Thanks for hosting FF! I really enjoy it! Alma's house is absolutely beautiful and I love the front yard rock gardens, as well as the sidewalk lined on both sides by flowers. Alma, you have a lot of space to work with. You might consider some additional trees. I suggest, Alma, that you look at Larry's blog http://conradartglassgardens.blogspot for some inspiration.
Regards, Beth

I love your answer to you 3 winks. Your friend Alma looks like ME! Scary....... She has a beautiful yard, I love her house too. Her grounds are very nice. she needs some park benches and snow on the mountain, growing amongst her big trees wildly on the ground, some tiger lilies in her rock beds, and more perennials, like peonies, Iris s going nuts, and peonies etc. I would love her place it is very inviting.
love Grammie

The previous owners did a lovely job of making the property look so good. Alma should just add some seasonal containers to keep the maintenance to a minimum.

What a beautiful home and yard but I am afraid I do not know what to suggest. I think you can come up with the answers, Tootsie...Christine

what beautiful spaces. Don't know what suggestions I would make... I'm pretty new to this, but someone suggested hostas as being deer resistant - NOT My deer are getting bigger every year lol. I did plant a lot of marigolds this year and they survived with little or no care. Lots of color too. My peonies do okay with the deer too.
