Last week I had the privilege of attending another field trip with my youngest daughter’s Kindergarten class. I tend to go on as many trips with the kids as I can, and the kindergarten year is the one that has the most fun!
I have been on this same trip now 3 times, and have always enjoyed it, but this year was an exceptionally fun time! Where did we go?
We went to the local airport! We got to tour a place called Air Spray!
What does Air Spray do?
They fight forest fires from the air! It is a great place to visit. Our kids were so excited to see the hanger filled with all the wonderful sights! HUGE planes, small planes, and such friendly people that work there!
My “Busy” sitting down in the conference room getting ready for the video presentation.
They gave us a presentation which was a very nice man talking to us about what they do there…and a video that shows the planes flying, and dropping the fire retardant on the area to be saved!
Now, as I mentioned, I have been several times before this one, and each time I learned something new, but this time was the best of them all. Our tour guide was wonderful! He was so nice to the kids…and of all the tours before, he was a wealth of information, and talked to the kids in ‘their language’ and…he had a lot of fun with them too!
Let my share some of what we saw that day:
The kids were in awe at the huge planes…all you could hear was “oooh…aaah!”
They learned some of the different parts of the planes…
got the chance to see some of the ‘guts’
This place is HUGE inside! And soooo quiet!
Here’s a view of one small area…well not that small…but a corner…lol
…and then we got to this plane…we climbed the stairs…and …
it was not what the kids expected!
One little boy demanded to know where the seats were! He figured they were out for cleaning…haha…the fact is…they empty the inside of these huge airliners…so that they are lighter…This is what a big plane looks like when it is gutted!
The kids got to sit in the cockpit and pretend they were pilots!
LOOK at all of these!!!
These were neat too! It is soooooo clean and tidy and very organized in the hanger…
This is the plane we were inside…the kids thought it looked like it was smiling at them!
THEN…we went to the little plane…this is called a bird dog plane…it is the guide plane that flies as a companion for the big tankers. It makes a very loud siren sound to warn those on the ground that the retardant will be dropped…
Did I mention it is really loud??? Why is my kid the only one not worried about the loudness??? Maybe she was expecting it…she’s been here before..or…maybe her ipod plays much too loudly and she’s used to it! hmmmm
More guts…
We are in Alberta, but this company helps fires in many provinces…this one says British Columbia on it.
The view of where the tank on the plane.
…and a propeller…a very large one indeed…
When we were inside the big tanker, something caught my eye…These babies are fabulous!!! I would LOVE to have a set or two of these!!!
Yep! I think those would make a great playhouse/fort in the backyard! Just bolt them together…and your good to go!
The tour guide giggled when I said that out loud to one of the moms…he said he’d never thought about them that way before! lol Leave it to me…I can landscape pretty much anything into my yard! hahaha
So that was my morning last Friday…it was wonderful to take another tour of the place that maintains the airplanes that help save our forests! It is something that not everyone has the chance to see…in fact…without this place most of us wouldn’t have had the chance to go inside a huge airport hanger and even see the planes themselves…much less how they are repaired!
I wish I had better photos for you…I had to use the camera in my phone as I forgot my camera!
Thanks Air Spray!!! Its a wonderful thing that you guys give tours for our kids…and a special thanks to our tour guide for the day…he made this tour by far leaps and bounds better than any of the other tours we’ve had in the past!
So…that’s it for me for today! Fertilizer Friday is coming up quickly….don’t forget to make a post and join the party!!!!
Until next time…hugs and smiles…and happy gardening!
*) *) *) (you didn’t think I’d forgotten you did you?) hahaha mwuah!

Wow! Our kindergarten kids just come to my greenhouse. How cool is going to see AIRPLANES?!
Tootsie, what a great trip! It was unusual and not something most children get to see.

P.S. Leave it to you to zero in on how clean and organized it is!
Just found your BLOG and I love your garden photo at the top! Cheered me right up.
What a great company name! Isn't it wonderful when the class can get outside into the community & learn something interesting that you wouldn't find in a textbook?
Tootsie, what a fun field trip, I really enjoyed myself, too! Who would have thought the planes would look like that inside, I was surprised, but then, I've never flown in my life, so I don't know much about airplanes, lol.
Your daughter is SO cute, she looks so much like you!
Busy is a cutie!
Great tour for everyone!
