Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers March 30/12

Copy_of_001

IT’S FRIDAY AGAIN!!!! I am SO glad to see you!

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol) It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!! Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!
If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?”
Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:
If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!
You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!
All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted.

So....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

The weather sort of smartened up since last week. The weekend brought us more snow…but the work week brought us some warm temps and sunshine. Things are starting to look a lot more spring like around these parts of Alberta Canada. Unfortunately for me…the spring melt, has taken away the nice crisp blanket of snow…and has revealed an eyesore beyond measure. Yep…I am referring to my yard…future garden…current train wreck. (ha ha)

Take a look:

~~~~warning~~~~ the following photos may cause nightmares! (ha ha)
DSCN2874
This is the view from the back gate in the alley behind my humble little home. NOT PRETTY AT ALL.
DSCN2875
This is the area directly outside the front door of my greenhouse. It is covered with red shale, wood chips, and pine needles…oh and don’t forget the mud…ha ha!
DSCN2879
The area directly across the sidewalk from the greenhouse is a mud bog. This is the future site of the garage that is planned for the spring as soon as the ground is ready to build on. For now…it is a definite attraction for my kids…ugh.
DSCN2878
Standing a little closer to the house…looking back you see this…but take a half turn …
DSCN2881
…and you see this! Ya…and I have been cleaning it up! The kitchen reno mess is almost all cleared away…but still it is an eyesore. Piles of scrap wood…cement blocks…mud…will it ever be all gone???
DSCN2883
This is the space right outside the back door to the left of the steps…the air conditioner is in this area…as is the water meter…gas meter and vents for the house. Wood chips are the only thing planted in this space right now…but not for long!!!
DSCN2882
I think I might have a plan for these pavers…and bricks…that doesn’t include leaving them where they are…(but that’s another post all together!)
DSCN2896
I hope we can salvage that little shed that is currently sitting in front of the greenhouse (in a bad way…ha ha) I want to move it over to where the little tin shed sits…What tin shed you ask?
DSCN2897
This tin shed…it is very small…and it is not in good shape at all. The doors fall off if you look at them sideways! It is currently holding some empty pots…and junk. I need to make a plan to either toss it to the junk yard, or completely modify it to become something fabulous…I have a few ideas…(but that too is another post)
DSCN2885
Not much for a side yard for me to play with in this garden…but I am sure a few little things will be planted there instead of the wood chips…
DSCN2888
See the house to the left of the photo??? ya…well that is the house I would have LOVED to have owned. It went up for sale again last month, and sadly there is no hope for me to ever own that beautiful wonderful old home…it is almost beyond repair. The foundation is crumbling from the inside out…the roof is leaking like crazy and needs to be replaced…as does a lot of the walls…both inside and out…and…there is no power on the second story! So…my dream to own that wonderful old home is dead…for now…until I win the lotto…lol
Back to my tour.…
The front yard is better…but not a lot. The white rocks under the bedroom windows will be moved to the back alley to like the place where the garbage will be set out…and the wood chips under the living room window will be removed to make way for blooms and blooms and blooms!
As for the lawn…
DSCN2892
…well I think I may need a miracle to bring it up to look like the lawn I left behind! Lots of large tree spruce trees and lack of attention to it, have left it looking less than lush…give me a season…hopefully I will be able to fix it up!
DSCN2894
The driveway is going to be removed. It is pretty worn, and very narrow. Gotta love the spring hey??? My poor little truck is filthy! Hey…I like to drive through the mud puddles…what can I say! ha ha
DSCN2895
I can’t wait to figure out what these two little shrubby things are… I hope they are pretty!!!
That concludes the tour of my future gardens. I know I have a huge task ahead of me to get this place looking a little more like Tootsie Lives here. I might even need a miracle or two…but for now I will settle for a whole lot of inspiration from some of the most creative gardeners I know…(you guys)
That is your que to get busy and dazzle me with your spring gardens!!! I can’t wait to see what you have to share!
GO!!! GET YOUR FLAUNT ON!!!
If you have any suggestions for me…I would absolutely love to hear them!!
Hugs , smiles and wishes for a safe and happy weekend with friends and family from Tootsie and her gang in Zone 2 Alberta Canada!!!
Until Next Time…Happy gardening!
I am trying my best to get around to view you all...I have been once again slowed down by that nasty flu bug that has been haunting me and the kids now for a few weeks! One kid is very sick again...and she needs her mom...sucks when real life interferes with my online fun!
Oh, Tootsie! I am overwhelmed by your optimism in the face of snow and flu and other adversity. It's only March; it will all get done. Take care of yourself first so you can take care of those precious children. Bricks and wood chips can wait even though they annoy you just sitting out there.
I don't know how you do it all ... if anyone can pull this fresh canvas together, it's you. I have no doubt at all that it will be lovely! Larry
Tootsie, I am so sorry your little one is ill. Hugs and prayers for both of you.
You have a blank slate! Is it a problem, or is it an opportunity? That is up to you! I am betting on you to make it a fabulous opportunity to have another true Tootsie yard and gardens!
God bless, Beth
You are going to have a lot of fun in all that space. I can't wait to see all the changes you are going to make. Sometimes I wish I could start over from scratch in my yard now that I've learned so much.
We have pouring rain so I didn't get out for pictures, but hopefully I'll join up in the next flaunt.
Tootsie, remember Rome wasn't built in a day! We know you'll make something beautiful out of all of that space. Cute little house that shows a lot of potential. Keep smiling..you'll get there and you'll have to read over your old post to remember how bad you thought it was.
Let's us see what's growing in the GH..when you get a chance. Hope the little one feels better. What's her Dr. saying about this relapse? Guess you've had to find new Drs. since you've moved. Don't you just hate changing Drs.?
Oh Tootsie, i am sorry for the little one, but that will pass and you all will be again in good shape. And you have a wide area to make wonders again, if Tootsie thinks she can she will, you are always an inspiration. In fact i am thinking where you get all those energies from. But don't be so in a hurry, take some rest and things will be into their proper places in due time. Take care.
Great with a lot of ideas! The top image shows a time which gives a very good straight line to the door. I reinforced the place in front of the door more. With a crescent-shaped tiles in another matrial. It would provide a more selection of door and softer form of the long straight flat path. Stairs to the door, I would like to make crescent-shaped to round off the geometric shape of the house. Preferably the timber so that it becomes warm matrial. Painted in a simple wood stain so at the surface feels warm. The space outside the back stairs, I put a couple of bushes to hide the air conditioner. Wow what a lot of thoughts I had when I saw your pictures. My little garden has slowly emerged, depending on my finances and energy. A garden is an ongoing project. That you have so much snow left. Last Wednesday there was no snow at my place. I wish you a nice weekend! Zinnia
I think your little shrubby things might be crepe myrtles. That is my guess. I know you can do, many of your viewers will enjoy your creation of a new garden. This time it is all YOURS!
Dear Tootsie ~ You have a clean slate, a blank canvas, to work your magic on. Pretty soon all of these spaces will be filled with blooming beauties. Keep enjoying the process.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Sorry not much to dazzle you. The bulbs are frozen or slowed and the garden is now realizing it is still March. So this a retrospective of green from my garden that are native plants...enjoy!
Thanks for the tour,
Sad about that old house.
Gee whiz Tootsie! Sorry you guys are not feeling well again. As far as your new yard, you will have it tootsified in no time and the neighbors will not recognize it. In that small strip on the side of the house, some sedum ground cover would look awesome there. I cannot imagine removing those pavers, that's a lot of work girl.
Tootsie,
Your new home looks like it has great bones and if it is missing a few, I am sure you will invent them.
I can't wait to see it with all of your flowers.
Hi Tootsie..nothing for me to flaunt..and as much as I would love to be, I am NOT the gardener or your followers are, but OH how I would love to be. Age wise I am just no longer up to it..but I LOVE to watch what you do. And dream a bit!
You taught me how to outline where I want my flower beds to be..and at least I can show someone else how I want it. Thanks!
You are amazing and I have no doubt your home will be a show place just like the last one was!
That's just who you are! :)
Hi Tootsie...its been a very long time since i've visited you. I see you've moved. Well, you have talents thats for sure, both inside and out and I cannot wait to see what you do with your yard and pictures of your new home. I've had a very rough year...diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer at end of sept. been picking up the pieces of my life since then, trying to get as healthy as i can, left my job to concentrate on health and life. back to blogging is one thing i've wanted to do so here i am catching up!
