One Day at A Time

a few shots of my garden today....I hope there will be more to come very soon.
This was in my email box this evening. I had been stressing and pacing and feeling such pressure. I read this and it made PERFECT sense to me.
"There are two days in every week about which we should not worry.
Two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension.
One of these days is yesterday, with its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.
Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control.
All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday.
We cannot undo a single act we performed.
We cannot erase a single word we said.
Yesterday is gone!
The other day we should not worry about is tomorrow, with its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and poor performance.
Tomorrow is beyond our immediate control.
Tomorrow's sun will rise, whether in a splendor or behind a mask of clouds.
But it will rise, until it does we have no stake in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.
This leaves only one day:
Today.
Any man can fight the battles of just one day.
It is when you and I add the burdens of two awful eternities - yesterday and tomorrow, that we break down.It is not necessarily the experience of today that disturbs one's peace of mind.
It is often time the bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.
Let us therefore live one day at a time.

This could not be more true. Sometimes when we feel threatened or weak, we worry about the past or the future instead of working on TODAY. Today is the most important thing. Live in each moment as if it was your last.
Thank You Mary. I really needed to see this. I will keep this in mind as my family works through this difficult time.

Your garden looks beautiful, as always. (I'm getting hesitant to post my progress. I'm seeing such beautiful spaces!) The message from Mary is so wise. It's difficult advice to follow, but something we should all strive to do. Have been worried about you...will continue to keep you and your family in thought and prayer. Hugs-Nancy

Hey girl..that was beautiful and it should be framed! It is so so true girl....we can't undo yesterday and we sure can't control tomorrow...but today...today we can handle...you have been in my heart and prayers my friend..I know at time you may feel alone in this situation but you're not...they are many of us that love you and are lifting you up in prayer...God is right there Toots...ask him to be the Lord of this situation...He can handle it and make all things turn out to the good...love you girl. On another note I just want to say I thought what you did for our sweet Goria was so beautiful and touching..there is greatness in you girl....don't ever forget that.

I missed the big birthday day but wanted to wish Gloria a wonderful year to come! I always suspected that a person with "happytobe" as her screen name on RMS would be a special person ... and as it turns out, she certainly is!

That really did make total sense. I think it's harder to follow in real life though. I guess it's something to strive for! Love you girl!

Hi Glenda: I thought it may have been Mariah that sent you this (and I see it is).
The words are inspiring both in spirit and in heart.
Hopefully you are doing better.

That is an AWESOME poem! I am going to copy that off and share it in the counseling groups that I facilitate. The women especially are going to love it. They have an AA saying that if you have one foot in yesterday, and one foot in tomorrow, then you're pissing all over today! lol That's basically what this is saying, just in a much more eloquent manner.

I don't know the nature of the crisis you're going through, but I don't need to in order to keep you in my prayers and for God to pour out his healing and his blessings. Take care, dearest Glenda.

Dear Glenda,

The past week has been very busy for me. If I'd know that you were adding to your blog, I'd have come running. So now I'm playing catch-up. Thank you for the reflective piece here--very well worth remembering. And I echo the sentiments of those who have commented here. You are a special person who cares and acts. I'm praying for you as you face each of your today's. Hugs, Pam
