Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers May 14/10

Copy_of_001

It’s Friday again already and that means it’s time to flaunt our flowers, gardens and all things green!

Now if you are not familiar with the rules of this little party…here they are;

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

Your post must include the logo above and a link to Tootise Time, or the linky will be deleted. I don’t mean to be harsh, but there have been a lot of people linking in and when the participants graciously click over to their blogs, there is no sign of Fertilizer Friday anywhere to be found. This is not fair to those who do follow the rules, therefore…well you know!

So? what are you waiting for? Get outside, feed, water, snap and post!

040

Well in Alberta Canada, we have some extreme weather changes. Last week we had snow and rain and high winds. This week….we have hot and sunny and gorgeous weather!

So…I dragged everything in and out of the greenhouse for a couple of days…I thought I would harden them off.

035

I figured that the weather was just perfect…I left them out overnight one night too! I thought I was safe! Well, sometimes, things just don’t turn out the way we planned….

034

EVERYTHING GOT A SUNBURN YESTERDAY!!!

BUT…my misfortune has a silver lining!!

I get to show you what a sunburn looks like on a plant. If you look closely, you will see that the leaves are a little silver on the plants. This is a sunburn. They are NOT happy…Not at all.

I had a bit of a crisis situation on Wednesday, that distracted me enough that I did not get them covered or sheltered in time, and now the entire crop looks as though they have been lightly dusted with silver spray paint.

Not to worry…this has happened to me before. With a little bit of TLC, I should be able to salvage most of the plants. They just will need to recover and hopefully thrive in a few days…maybe a week or two.

033

It is a bit distressing to see that something you have put your heart and soul into was destroyed. I hope I can pull this out of my butt this time…or I will NOT be a happy camper!

029

On a lighter note…I tilled up all 15 of my beds…and just as I was about to admit defeat with the hydrangea plants…I got up a little closer…

028

…and was so excited to see that they both are coming back from the bottom! Woo Hoo!!!…I have never had luck with these here…and I felt like I had won a prize!

038

I am so sore that I can almost not even type after tilling and cleaning up the edges on all of the beds…not to mention pulling about five million dandelions…ugh.

039

Don’t they look so clean? I can hardly wait to plant…maybe tomorrow…we will see…I figure what do I have to lose? They are already 1/2 dead…if they die…they die! haha

So…that is what I have been doing…and where I have been….and where I will be for the next week or two! So…if you don’t hear from me right away…please do not be offended!

Hugs and smiles to all who offered me birthday wishes….I did not have a chance to pick up my giveaway item…so you will just have to wait till next week when I am clean enough to be out in public!

Hey Tootsie, O how I know how you feel. I say it over and over again but I sware the weather in my neck of the woods is bipolar. Snowing one day and 72 today. I hope you take a look at my post, because the ladies home that I visited lived a few miles from you at one time. Dont worry about the plants because with your green thumb they'll be doing fine in no time. Hope you have a great time planting this weekend! From your friend at Southern Style in a Northwest Garden!

It sure looks like you have your work cut out for you.

I got tired just looking at what you have to do.

Thanks for hosting FF, I always enjoy my visits here, and I enjoy posting my FF posts too.

If it;s not one thing, it's another. Sunburn or mold growing on the surface. We can only do our best and let nature take it's course.

You constantly amaze me. I mean, do you even realize how much work you do every single year? All that tilling? I would be dead!!!

I hope those plants make it and thrive. I'll be pissed if they don't!

And I'm amazed that your hydrangea can come back after your brutal winter.

I can't believe your hydrangea is coming back as far north as you are. You must be the best of the best of gardeners for that. I'm glad to hear that warm weather is finally there for you. You're the hardest worker I've come across in blogland. Thanks for hosting.

Tootsie, I have been through this same thing with plants that look damaged. I think you are right, they will come back but it will take a couple of weeks. Good luck.

I am still amazed at the huge amount of plants you are growing! Happy to see your hydrangeas survived. I think 2 of my 3 endless summer hydrangeas made it also. Limelight came through again..have you tried that one?

I'm glad your hydrangea is coming back for you! Tender plants are such a tricky thing to deal with, but I bet with your TLC they'll be fine.

Poor Toots, I know how you feel (to a bit of a lesser degree) I too have been hauling in & out! Some of my potted Roses haven't been too happy with it..... But good news on your Hydrangea. You put so much love & hard work into it all. I am sure everything is going to look Beautiful in the end!! :) It's just getting there that's the bitch!

I am so excited for you to start your new beds. I am also so sorry to hear about your plants sun burn. It doesn’t seem fair after all your work. I believe everything will be fine and I can’t wait to see your beds grow!!! I really look forward to reading your blog everyday and thanks for creating this link so we can check out other gardens.
I hope your plants will be okay. You've put so much time into them I bet they are healthy and will bounce right back.
I wish my beds would look that clean and neat. I love seeing that fresh soil all ready to be planted in.

PS Congrats on your 2 year Blogiversary!

Dear Glenda-Toots!
We all know what too much sun can do to lots of things! I love visiting you and looking at not only your photos but those of everyone who linked to you! Happy weekend.

Too bad about the sunburn on the plants. They will probably do just fine if you go ahead and plant them. Fifteen beds! I did not know you had that many - thus the large number in the green house. You have your work cut out for you. I am wondering about the sunburn on the plants. I wonder if the difference in our climates and sun if maybe that is why I have never heard of it in our area. Just wondering. I put out a bunch of seedlings yesterday. Will show them later as they grow. Have a good weekend and don't kill yourself in the gardens.

Whoops! They well snap out of it. Girl your body must be one aching mess after digging in all of those beds. They do look neat and ready for planting though. Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, man! I hope your plants have a nice recovery from their sunburns! My hydrangeas are always one of the last things to come up, and it's always from the ground. I do have a smaller one that comes up earlier, though, a pink pia, I think it's called.

That lovely dirt looks like it is calling out for plants to fill it up. I love your bicycle leaned against the tree. Larry says he wants to find a bike for our yard, too.

Oh wow, that's a lot of hard work, I hope your plants come back healthier than ever. Can't wait to see you start planting them. I linked to my garden blog this week to give an update on my veggies. We are getting good at fertilizing every Sunday, just missed last weekend cos of Mother's day, then hubby had to head out of town.
Have a lovely weekend.
Hello! I was just walking through your garden a bit. Wow, you have a lot of plants from your greenhouse. I love it. Hope they all recover from the sunburn.

My husband hauled out and forgot to haul back in. It froze that night. Haden't frozen in a while-we were actually getting quite warm. Well, he left them out and they all froze. ARgg. Guess we'll start over. Thanks for this post. I know its late but I took some beautiful (at least I think) pictures of my iris today. I wanted to share them with someone special and there you are!

G'Day Tootsie, I have not participated i F.F. again this week but I wanted to come by for a sticky beak anyway.
Girl, you are a really driven gardener with all the hard work you put in to your beloved patch of dirt. Kudos to you.
If yo pinch some of those sunburned leaves off your baby plants they will make new shoots, hopefully. But you probably already knew that didn't you.
BTW.......................... Happy belated birthday from your FF antipodean contingent.

You beds look great and I sure do hope your plants pull through. I have been working on my yard. I had hoped to do more but had a couple of trees cut down and the clean up has eaten up some time. It sure made me sore too.
Have a great week.
