Hoya Yoya! Sometimes…Worth the Wait. (and HELP???)

Hey gang! How are you? My stress is high, I am busy…but over all…I am good.

023

We had an afternoon thundershower today…everything is so crisp and clean feeling in the garden. The Robin’s are singing so loud…it’s just peaceful. I was in the sunroom with the windows all open working with one of my newest treasures…and thought I’d share a few things.

I had a wonderful day with my parents on Sunday, picked up some more “junkin gold” from Grampie and Grammie…had a great lunch, and headed for home with my truck loaded to the max with my new treasures. I am shocked at one of the treats I took this time…it’s something I thought I would NEVER get to have…but have always admired. Wanna see?

003

Yep! It’s a plant. A 40 something year old Hoya to be exact. My mom got it from a lady at church about 25- or so years ago…now…I thought I’d never see the day that this plant would be in my house…ever.

They are downsizing a lot lately…sent a lot of things for my garage sale…and a few things that I might want to keep in my house…This is one of them.

So I get it home…and it tips over. Hoya Yoya did it tip over…and I got a big surprise! It is not as full as it appears in this photo…in fact…it is empty on top! That plant is tied to the hanging chains right now and appearantly always has been! When it fell over…the ties came off…and I had a surprise! The plant is actually about 12 feet long! It had just been tied and trained and tangled into a full beauty! Kinda like my mom’s hair when she was young…teased and tossled into a bee hive!! hee hee! (she lives far away…so I am safe to say that today! hee hee)

Okay…enough on that Hoya…I have some new views in the header bed to share today.

007

I have had this little sign kicking around for a while. The shovel is actually like an arrow…supposed to point the way to the greenhouse…It was facing the wrong direction and I did not hang it for lack of a location. I took the shovel off…put it back on facing the right way…and…

005

hung it on a piece of the barn board I had acquired a couple of weeks ago. It stands in the header bed right beside the fence against the trellis arch that holds the Engleman’s Ivy. I removed the unused garden sink, ripped out the sod…added a couple of perennials and a few annuals from another bed that was over loaded…and that’s where it’s at! The bed used to end about three feet from the gate…now…it goes around in a curve and I do like it. I still plan to add one of my old windows the way I did in the garden room on the other side…but that’s another day.

010

Here is the new view.

012

The other half of the header bed. Please do not look at the weeds…that is on the top of the list of things to do tomorrow for sure. Do you see anything new in this photo?

020

How about now? It is something I have wanted since we built this greenhouse...

019

Maybe now????

021

Yep! I hung a screen door on the greenhouse last night. I was having issues with baby Robins…baby Sparrows and even Hummingbirds going into the greenhouse…and not being able to find their way out. The poor babies would be so scared when I would try to help them…but I always managed to get them out safely. It just needed to be done!

Now is where you guys come in…That little pine screen door needs to be painted…I need to know if you think it should be painted white like the trim and the other weather door that is on it…or…._____ . What do you think? I want input…I need input…and I think it should come from you guys! Help me choose a color! Please?

See you all back here for Fertilizer Friday!!! Can’t wait to see you!

Tootsie I have wanted a screen door like this forever!! It looks great on your greenhouse but would look better on my backdoor!!

White would be a great color but I think a pretty splash of color would be fun too! Red or Robin Egg blue is what I had in mind but yellow- hmmmm this could be a hard decision!!

Just came back from being gone for a week and I am dog tired! Have more company and a training this weekend so better get perky soon!

Not sure on a color. Depends on how much you want to have it stand out.(-:

Everything and I do mean everything is just gorgeous Tootsie. I love your style and creativity. As far as the door goes I was thinking red until I looked closer, a green would be pretty too, it is a greenhouse, right? Seriously, any splash of color would be great, a crackle would be cool too..

Hey Toots
I haven't been on much due to weddings, family issues and working on the house. I'm just sick to see how beautiful your yard is and mine looks so bad right now. I like the white, yest white it is. Have a good day and I'm glad you got to visit your parents.

Amazing. Just amazing. You and your yard.

I immediately thought of a bright color. Blue or yellow. Make it pop!

As I was reading your blog red instantly came to mine. Then I thought that it would really stand out but may take away from the flower beds. So maybe a more soothing color and you would notice the beds and flowers first. But then me took over and I vote for red!

Love the family plant passed along!

I would paint the screen door a nice pretty color. It has good detail and is a focal point. What's your favorite color?

You and your yard are my role model. I have so far to go and may never get there(LOL) but it's something to try for. The screen door I would paint a color. Yep I would! I would probably choose blue. Can't wait to see what you do!

Well if emotions were in color, paint the door the color of the emotion it gives you to be surrounded by all the beauty in your yard.Debbie (Maine)

Hi Tootsie, I hae 3 hoya plants Mine are all under 2 yrs old. 2 are wax leaf one is a rope I could not believe that one of the wax leafs got flowers so soon. I was told it took years, and that the plant had to be root bound first. You can check out a picture of the one that flowered on my blog

I really liked the new 'sign', the arrow is darling. Your garden looks so beautiful that you could do anything with that needed screen door and it would look great. You definitely have the touch.

You have such a pretty garden and your "Hoya" is nice! I have 4 or 5 of them and they bloom about every 3 months..love the little 'china' flowers they produce! They just love the heat and full sun here!
I seem to lurk in your garden each week and find such nice, new things!

That plant has cracked me up! Did you trim it??? I am loving your yard right now...I think this is my fave look of the header bed. Really nice. I also love the shovel sign.

Hey Tootsie,
Long time no see! Love your creative shovel sign and about your door, it's your greenhouse, isn't it? Well, then paint it green! It will tie in with your lush green grass. Your flowers amaze me and shame me at the same time. Here I am in Georgia and could plant almost anytime of the year, and I haven't done anything this year. I hadn't heard the name Hoya since my Mom visited her cousin about 35 years ago and they were raving over this kind of plant like it was the most wonderful thing in the world. I didn't appreciate the little things in life back then, but do now. Can't wait to see the blooms! Take care, girlfiend!

Stop by and visit me in my garden when you get a chance!

Love the new screen door. As I was going down through the pictures I kept thinking I do not remember seeing that screen door before LOL! I am a little slow sometimes. LOL!
I am the person that asks 'how long has that been there' and it could have been there for years.
I am sure you will give it a beautiful paint job. The scroll work would be beautiful white as for the rest I am not so sure.
The little shovel sign is so cute.

Your Hoya Carnosa is gorgeous!! My Mom had a a Hoya Bella and Hoya Carnosa.

My sister had taken a piece of the Bella from a store (the price was outrageous, no excuse tho ;)) and gave it to her. She put it in water and it rooted. It became a beautiful plant. She broke down and bought the Carnosa. LOL
And boy to they both smell fab when they bloom!! Has your Mom's ever bloomed?

I love your sign and "new" garden, but adore your screen door!!
Like others have said it would be a great place to add a fav color.

I'm not original at all...The first colors I thought of was red (like your bbq) or Robin's Egg Blue.

Ahh decisions, decisions! he he

See you tomorrow for FF. Have a great day!
*hugs*deb

What a fun visit. Everything you do is gorgeous. I'd paint the door red, but that's just me. It's so darn cute!

Corner Gardener Sue said...

I'm thinking I would like the door white, because you have so much color from your beautiful flowers. On the other hand, red, like I saw when I skimmed over the comments, would provide color in the winter.

I love the hoya plant. Can you root sections in water? That may be a good way to rejuvenate the plant.

The whole area looks awesome, by the way!
