Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Sept10/10

Copy_of_001

Hello Bloggers/ Gardeners/ Friends!!!! It’s Friday again already and that means it’s time to flaunt our flowers, gardens and all things green!

Now if you are not familiar with the rules of this little party…here they are;

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

Your post must include the logo above and a link to Tootise Time, or the linky will be deleted. I don’t mean to be harsh, but there have been a lot of people linking in and when the participants graciously click over to their blogs, there is no sign of Fertilizer Friday anywhere to be found. This is not fair to those who do follow the rules, therefore…well you know!

So? what are you waiting for? Get outside, feed, water, snap and post!

Well, the weather here has turned a nasty taste of fall. Cold, windy and frost threatens every evening to take my gardens away. The chill in the air every morning reminds me that winter is just mere weeks away.

So? What’s a girl to do when she fears losing the blooms of summer???

She moves some blooms of summer into the greenhouse of course!

001

A girl in Alberta Canada knows that just moving things inside isn’t going to do any good after a while…this Greenhouse needs to be cleaned….and winterized. The deck flooring needs to be covered with the foam tiles, items need to be edited out…and the heat needs to be turned on at night.

I have several plants that mean a lot to me at this point sitting in there…would you like to see a few?

002

Do you remember me mentioning “Nanny”? Yes…it’s sad…I have a name for this Geranium. Actually the kids named it. I got her for mothers day 8 years ago. It was so small it fit into a 4 inch pot…since that time…she has been cut and snipped…dropped and dried out…but she still blooms on no matter what she’s been through. (kinda like a mom hey?)

003

This plant is overflowing in a square 18 inch pot…just look at all the blooms! I love the way some of the white petals are almost pink. I will keep her year after year until she finally dies. I want to see how long I can keep an annual alive, and will more than likely be saddened when it dies. haha

006

I almost killed the Boston fern, but managed to pull a miracle out of my butt and it seems to be coming back from the burns it sustained during a hot spell in the greenhouse.

009

I am still struggling along with the wisteria…seems it died on me three or four times this year…hope it manages to keep going this winter…

010

A Grape Ivy is still alive…in spite of the hot conditions in the greenhouse. (I always kill these ones too…so I’m really flauntin right now!)

011

Swedish Ivy Nico…7 years old…been cut back again and again…and yet it still grows on!

023

I wintered and summered this banana…I started it from seed in 2009. Thought it was a goner a few times…bugs, heat, sunburns…and yet it still manages to give me some green!

026

Does this color of Geranium NOT make you smile??? It is actually that electric! I brought it in from the garden this year…I love this color! POP!

028

My breast cancer hydrangea endless summer…bloomin’ up a storm in the greenhouse! These ones are not all the way open yet…

031

…but this one is!

033

OKAY GUYS…TIPS FOR TOOTSIE ON WINTERING A PASSION FLOWER VINE???? come on!!! I need you! This is the first try for this plant for me…I think it did fantastic! I had to cut it back quite a bit to get it into the greenhouse…it was wrapped around all kinds of things! I seriously want someone to share a secret or two on how to winter it! Please???

036

My Mandevilla….she still lives!!! I wintered her last year…it seems happy in the greenhouse…blooming like a maniac..and more and more blooms are showing up each day! The color is really a very deep red…but the lights were making that a hard shot to take and I gave up! haha

So that is a little glimpse of a few of the plants that are going to holiday in the greenhouse this winter. I did get a lot done yesterday in there…

039

I put down the foam tile floor…and didn’t take one thing outside! Yep…moved it all over to one side…then moved it back! I also still need to edit a few things out…and bring in the water storage bins…but at least the heat is set to turn on should the temperature get too low…ugh.

Is it just me…or is this one of the shortest coolest summers we’ve seen in a long time? I wish summer would last forever!

With all the flaunting done here for today…I invite you to join in on the party!

I would also need to ask you to send prayers up for my children. They are going through some very confusing times right now. I am doing my best to hold them through this, and appreciate the help of a few select friends and my Mom and Dad (Grammie and Grampie), but a few extra prayers wouldn’t hurt. I hope to get to run all over blogland visiting this week…in between kids, school and work, I think I should be able to get a few moments each day to pop by…thank goodness we are getting a bit of a routine going here.

Until next time…hugs and smiles…wishes for a safe and happy weekend to you all….and to my three very ‘special’ winks…I see you…and smile a very special smile each time I do…I love that I am never far from your thoughts! Being admired the way you admire me…is just so flattering! Winks!!! *) *) *) You know who you are!

Your flowers are gorgeous. I can understand why you would want to keep them alive in the green house this winter!

It is dropping down to 36 degrees F tonight, so it is time for me to start making some serious winter plans. I am planning on beginning the move this weekend.

Hi Tootsie, I, too, am sad to see summer go but it's hard to believe that you've actually had to move plants into your greenhouse. I live in the midwest and we've been in the 60's and 70's this past week. That I have enjoyed - so nice to turn the AC off and open the windows. But my garden shows me that fall is not far away. Your Boston fern looks great, Tootsie. Love your geraniums too, especially the brilliant orange one. You definitely have a green thumb! Did you see the bench my son made for me, patterned after your barn board bench? It can be found right here: http://beyondthegardengate-beth.blogspot.com/2010/08/yard-art-thursday-and-fertilizer-friday.html. Prayers for you and your family - take care.
Hugs and blessings, Beth

Tootsie, that greenhouse is wonderful. I would love to have one, but I would have to put it on the roof to fit it on my lot!

Tootsie, I love the orange geranium!! Perhaps a greenhouse is the best for Endless Summer. Goodness knows I've tried it in the garden for 3 or 4 years and it gets fewer flowers each year. This year, none! And I fertilized! Frustrating! Maybe this summer was just too cold and rainy.

Your flowers are all so beautiful! I live in a desert so I'm always so shocked at how beautiful things can be when they get water.

Love your breast cancer hydrangea, I have one too and it is a really pretty, delicate flower. Wish I knew how to take care of passion vine, I know lots of people in New England grow them as houseplants, so it can be done.

Kudos on getting so much done in your greenhouse.

Big hugs to your kids, hope they are ok.

First off I love Grampie's glasses LOL! What fun.
That is one hot looking geranium Tootsie. It just seems summer began and now it is ending. Too soon for this old lady.I see you have been busy getting the greenhouse ready. Your Mandevillavine is just so pretty. I cannot believe you have had that geranium for so long and I have never saw so many blooms before on one. Wow! It is a very happy plant.
Remembering the kiddos in prayer. I for one know it is a hard time for children to go through this. I have been there myself kiddo.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I envy your greenhouse. It is impossible to overwinter some tender plants without it.

This looks Heavenly! How long does it last?
I WANT A GREENHOUSE!
Thanks for sharing,
Paula in Idaho
This summer did seem extremely short and cool. We either had 60's or up in the 90's, just no in between this year.
You are so lucky you have that nice greenhouse to keep your plants in. I can't believe how long you've had the one geranium!

I want a greenhouse too! HA! I guess I should be happy with extended growing seasons. :o)

That geranium is beautiful! I winter mine indoors too, but they haven't grown that large yet.

Happy Friday!

It sure passes quickly. It seems like yesterday we were posting about things to come.

I love your Nanny geranium. I am hoping to over-winter some myself this year. We shall see...
