I spent all morning one day last week cleaning my house…I scrubbed…and dusted…and waxed floors…I vacuumed…and things were looking pretty good!
I then got the bright idea to do some renovation work in my house!
This is the living room window. It has a built up area that seems to me to be nothing more than a huge waste of space.
The top of this “window box” is covered with the same laminate that is on the floor.
If I was to remove the “box,” I could re-use that laminate and make it become flooring. I would have more space in my living room !!! Lets get our tool belt on!!!
Laminate removed! Plywood underneath.
Plywood removed! Another layer of Plywood!!! I see a bit of a water stain….hmmmm. The people who built this box sure did like nails…I must have removed 50 nails to get to this layer…and there are dozens more on this one!
Second layer of plywood removed…insulation revealed.
EWE!!! Water damage is an ugly thing! haha
Insulation removed…and this mess is revealed!! I am not sure what was supposed to be happening in this part…but it did make me laugh to see the patchwork of plywood scraps that was holding up the insulation.
Plywood patchwork removed…to reveal the floor!!! I am so happy to see that it is an actual floor!!!
Next I removed the drywall and the insulation from within that area…to realize…
…That all my cleaning from this morning was a HUGE waste of time!
WHAT A MESS!!!!
I got busy and hauled all the wood scraps outside…cleaned up the remaining drywall mess and tried to sweep up a little…I don’t care if I made a mess…
I am just so excited to make this project a success…
…even having this much more space is going to be worth all the mess I made!
The next day…
well that’s another post…what??? You didn’t really think I was going to finish the entire project in one day did you???? hahahaha! Be patient!…Stay tuned…I am almost done this little…ok…huge project!!! As soon as I get the little details done… and my arms will let me, I will share! In the mean time…any curtain suggestions would be appreciated!
I will be in my gardens for a day or two…and my project will need to wait. It is that time of year and I am in a scramble!
*)*)*)…to you three winks!!! Oh how wonderful it is to see you trying to come around as often as you can! Do you remember the time that you thought that the grass was greener on the ether side, But when you get over there you stepped in a big pile of shit? ahhhhh good times…good times…brings to mind a little wisdom I once read: Immature love wants a fun time.. Mature love wants a lifetime…just sayin’
Until Next Time….Happy Building!

You are ADHD aren't you, lol!! I just love all of your energy and ideas Tootsie..
I'm wondering what the area measures? I've got a similar situation and would love to take it out, but it's only 18" deep at the deepest point and I'm wondering if it's worth it...
Oh my, I would have been terrified to do all that!
Can't wait to see what you did with it.
I just love that you "go for it"!!!
Looking forward to the end result! I think lace/sheers would be pretty for the window cover! It wil make a huge difference in your living room.
Warmly,
deb
I would have been intimidated by that mess and said I can't do that because I wouldn't be able to fix my mess. I sure do need to hang out with you girl. You got it going on Tootsie. Can't wait to see what you do with it. It sure does add a little room. I see perhaps a sitting area?
Congratulations on winning second place for your great garden blog! I'm very happy for you, Glenda!
