Ready for the Cold to Come...

Today I spent the entire day finishing up the winterizing of my greenhouse. As many of you know, I have a gas heater in this one, and I can run it all year round. It is this heater that allows me to give my house plants a little extra over the cold short days of a Canadian winter.
Anyone who knows me, knows that this is my special place. I love my greenhouse more than I can ever describe. This year is no exception, and is a little bittersweet.
My greenhouse days may be over. This house we have here may have to go on the market soon and that will mean leaving my special place behind. I most likely will not have another one and ....well....you know.
Cleaning it up ....just in case I have to show it off . Keep your fingers crossed that we don't decide to move.

Now...you saw how disgusting and dirty it was in the itchy post that I did a couple posts back....well....let me tell you...today was a long labor intensive day!
First I had to remove all the contents of the greenhouse so I could wash the flooring. The bins you see hold all the little "6,9 and 4 packs" and small pots that I start the seed in...

the stacks of black are the shelving that I use to hold the trays when they are seeded....

ugh....there is a lot of stuff that had to come out before I could wash the floor!
This appears to be a lot of junk....but it is all things I use to work my greenhouse...
Wooo Hoooo....the floor is clean! now I wait for it to dry....

another view of what has to be put back in....I can't believe how much stuff I have stored in there!
The tile is down. I use the two foot by two foot foam tiles that many people use on the floor in their garages...it helps hold the heat in.. I have loaded a lot back in already. Must find a spot for my new garden bench that I fixed up this summer....

This is my oldest bedding plant. She is a 6 year old Geranium. She is white and just got a MAJOR haircut. Her name is Nanny...she was a mother's day gift from my kids. She is very special to me.
The rest of the stuff is tools and pots and other greenhouse gardener stuff.....Hey...it can't all be pretty...this IS a working greenhouse.
I do try to "decorate" it for the off season, but come January...all the houseplants go back into the house, and it goes back to work!
Oh look....it is finally coming together....Houseplants and all
another view from a different angle...
and another... There have been so many comments about this cupboard....and what it holds...Now..it is NOT clean or even close...but inside is a fridge, and a t.v. Yes...my greenhouse has cable t.v.
It is efficient when it is clean...I swear!

Thanks for the visit and for taking the tour with me!

Tootsie, I am sad to know that you may have to sell your house and your greenhouse. Reading your blogs I know how special it is to you. You and your greenhouse have given me so much inspiration. I can't imagine you without a greenhouse. I am crossing my fingers and saying a little prayer that you don't have to sell your house.

Girl, I can't believe you did all of that by yourself! You need to put your feet up and have a soda today. Turn on the cable t.v. and enjoy what you have accomplished.
I think it's like a man's dog house when he's been bad lol~~Love it and cable TV? You rock girl;) French

Whew! That wore me out just looking at all that work!
Every now and then I pull all the stuff out of my built in cupboard in the kitchen and then I always wonder how it will all fit back in.
I have a room upstairs that I want to redo the floors I just can't figure out where I would put all the stuff in there while I was doing it so guess what? It doesn't get done, I guess my floors are really vintage right now!

Thank you so much for showing your greenhouse! I'm jealous! It looks like so much fun. We just don't have the room for one in our backyard (well... it's more about the $ I think). Hey - I noticed your post below and that you mentioned Beta fish. Could you do a post on how you take care of your Betas? I'd love to learn some! My mom gave my 3 yr old a Beta and about $100 later he now has a filtered home with a heater and some decoration. I just couldn't keep him in that little dirty bowl that had to be cleaned every 3 days!

Hi there garden girlie! Hmmm, I wonder is there anyway to dismatle it and take it with you "IF" you should have to move!? There must be a way! I'll come up and help! Now go sit down and rest up some you work too hard! {{{HUG}}}

Wow! You got a lot of work done! Have you thought about trying to exclude the greenhouse if you have to move, and take it with you? It might not be easy, but something to think about. I will pray that everything will work out just the way it is supposed to. Until then, enjoy a clean greenhouse! :)

Tootsie, you have such a Fabulous greenhouse . . . hoping you don't have to leave it. Perhaps you may be able to take it along with you, if you have to relocate. ... Warm hugs, SherylCanadianGirl

Toots, all I can say is, you are insane! Is that floor REALLY that necessary for the winter months? Without that, you wouldn't have to empty the whole damn thing twice a year! But, it does look really great now! But tell me, why is it better for your indoor plants to be out there during the winter? Aren't they just as cozy inside?

Justine ;o )

Just wanted to tell you, I love you, friend.
It makes me a little sad to think you might have to give up your special place. It really is an awesome greenhouse! I think I could sit in there a lot during the winter so that I could feel the sun shining, but still stay warm with the heaters. It looks so peaceful there and so alive. I hope you will be able to somehow take it with you!

Somehow I missed this post. I truly hope you don't have to sell. I know things are still tough for you but I've been praying for God to give you the strength to see your way through. Take care Tootsie. This green house is fabulous.

Tootsie- Leave this????? I can't imagine. I came in pieces certainly you can take it apart!!!
Are you all moving out of the area? I have been reading your blogs religiously but may have overlooked this bit of news. I do know that when I had to move my garden of eden He blessed me in ways I could not have imagined when we moved. I know He will do the same for you- greenhouse or no greenhouse!

Blessings to you!

mary :)

I have not forgotten the seeds- I am wanting to make some seed packets and of course time..... might have to send them in baggies but that seems so unclassy!!!!
