I spent the better part of two days on my weekend…primping, pruning, mowing and improving in my gardens.
I WAS going to share a whole other post…one with some before and after photos of a little cupboard…as well as a whole post on the greenhouse…BUT…that is NOT going to happen …let me give you the scoop.
Things in the yard were looking quite nice in spite of the cool weather and frequent storms we have had.
I was admiring, and making note of things I did an did not like in my gardens, and pots.
I was dirty and tired…and decided that it was time to go for a quick shower…the nice warm day had offered a great opportunity for me to move some containers around and spread things out so that each plant could be enjoyed.
My thoughts were …shower quick…then back outside to take some photos to share….ya…well I got more than I bargained for…
Getting out of the shower I could hear an ungodly noise…I ran to the back door to see this!
….And this…. (it left a crack in that old storm window…)
…and I cried. I had seen some clouds coming…and pulled a few things up closer to the house. Thank goodness for that!
The winds were incredible…and the hail, although only grape sized at best seemed to fall forever! It was hailing so hard that at one point I could not see the greenhouse from the back steps! The wind had it pushing violently against the front of the house, and greenhouse…it came directly from the north.
The hail and winds lasted for almost an hour.
When it stopped hailing…and I managed to settle myself a little bit…I got busy and made some calls to ensure all that I love were safe…then I got some photos of the situation. By this time, things had diminished a lot…melted down….and the sun had come back around…I got photos of what was left…..The hail had been hitting the gate so hard that it was all crushed…
It is August and I could have shovelled!!!
This hanging basket used to be on the front side of the greenhouse…it blew off…and landed in front of the greenhouse door…
It’s back there now…and looking sort of sad.
I watched my flowers flatten under the weight of the hail and rain and pressure of the winds…I was upset…to say the least. On the other hand, I was grateful that it wasn’t worse…as it could have been…easily could have been.
The next morning brought a bitterly cold wind…so I stayed away from my gardens…and thought I’d wait until this morning to assess the rest of the damage….
This used to be a bushy white petunia….
There is a huge mess of petals, leaves and other debris laying around all over the yard…
My flattened flower beds may have some hope to salvage….perhaps they will fluff up again? Only time and a little Tootsie type attention will tell.
Remember this huge tower of flowers I had made? I was not loving the nicotana blooms…they were too big and tall….
…ya…well about that…no worries…they are gone! …I don’t know if this pot will bounce back…it is really bad.
So MUCH hail damage…It may have to be discarded.
I hope the flattened flowers will find the strength to stand themselves up a bit!
This….is just plain sad…
…ripped and torn…
…ravaged leaves….and crushed flowers…I need to get out there and give this some thought and attention to try to save what I can!
It is a slight relief …that I am seeing a little improvement…it’s still a lot ruined…but not as flattened as it was…fingers crossed that I can fix this!
If you all don’t see me around for the next day or two…you know where you will find me…
Hugs and smiles…hopes that your week goes fast and fun…
Until next time….Happy Gardening!

So sorry about the crappy weather.
We have been so lucky this summer with our weather its been a miracle. I have loved everyday. ONly a few really hot ones and those were only 104. I can take that but when it gets hotter things die at a rapid rate. Mostly this summer we have been in the 90's. I still have flowers!(-:
I hope you have a good week and everything perks up for you!
If anyone can perk this up again, it would be you, as you have such talent and style in everything you do. How sad though, the garden was just gorgeous...and darn it, we Northerners put up with enough ice all winter long, we don't need it in August! Hugs to you.

I gave up on my garden a few weeks ago, were into Rainy Season here and everything has drowned in the steaming heat of Florida.. Summer is not the time to grow anything! I'll pick up again in December and January, that is our planting season.
Smile, your garden will be back to normal in a few weeks.
Sandy
I can hardly believe it. That's an amazing amount of hail and so much left afterwards.
So sorry - it must be so hard to look at. Hopefully a lot of it will just bounce back and you'll have a lovely second half to the summer.
Hugs, Diane
I too have been pruning and clipping. Think I have killed all those nasty Japenese beetles.
Now I wonder what I can put in the soil in the fall to repell the slugs and beetles. Your post is always so interesting. yvonne
