Well HELLO THERE! Welcome! I am so glad you stopped by today! I have been a busy Tootsie lately…up to my ears with things to share…I have been junkin’!!! There are many stories that I want to tell you guys! The best place to start, is the beginning, and that is just what I am going to do! Grab a coffee…and lets get started!
It all started when a "friend" was having a very hard day. She was seriously down in the dumps and needed some big time cheering up. I needed to know what would make my friend smile. I casually mentioned to her that sometimes when I am down, I like to take an old piece of anything and make it into something fabulous…and by the end of the conversation, I had been charged with re-decorating her master bedroom.
If you recall, the beautiful old house next door to mine was sold to a young couple that is slowly restoring it. They often ask me if I would like to play with any of the items they are sending to the dump, and over the past few months I not only have been lucky enough to have some gorgeous old storm windows…but they gave me three old wooden closet doors. Oh those doors …well…let me show you of what I speak:

I think in total these three old closet doors had about 20 coats of lead based paint on them! They came to me as stark white, with a few chippy spots here and there. These gorgeous babies are solid wood…and very heavy. They are also… going to become one absolutely fabulous piece!
I have a lot of work to do to achieve my goal…

I scrubbed…and chipped…and scraped…until I thought I was going to fall over…one door at a time…revealing several different colors of paint…by the time I was finished…I had revealed over 100 years of paint, and decorating adventures that they had lived through.

This is where I ended up. Do you see what the dilemma is now?
Yes…one door is shorter than the other two…AND there is one with mint green! The other two don’t show a lot of that mint green…they have a little bit…but mostly there is a soft creamy yellow showing on them.
DON’T WORRY!!! TOOTSIE HAS A PLAN!
I loaded those doors into the box of my truck and headed over to take them to their new home at top speed!

Once I got there…the doors were taken into the master bedroom and arranged on the bed…I had brought supplies with me too…Three short pieces of 2x4, and a bag of screws.
GET THE DRILL OUT POOPS!

We made a plan…the doors were positioned to a pleasing arrangement…and then the 2x4’s were secured to the backs of the doors to hold them all together…and then the LONG door…was cut to match the length of it’s opposite partner.

Since the entire piece was going to stand up against the wall, I added a few foam pads to the back to for protection as it would lean against on the drywall…and we stood this baby up!

Have you figured out what this is going to become yet???

Yep!!! It is a fabulous headboard!
This bedroom is coming together!
Next up…Windows…and a few other junked treasures needed to be amended to fit into this space.

My "friend" and I had been shopping one day in a nearby town…we happened upon a junk/antique shop. She had picked up this great old trunk…and I think I have the perfect spot for it!
Before it goes into the bedroom though, it needs a little something done.

I added a four large chunky castors to the bottom of the trunk…for easy moving…and to raise it up a few inches as the bed is quite tall.

I think it looks kind of cool with it’s new feet…:)

With the trunk in place…we started to accessorize it. A small lamp…and a few other things in her style were added.

Yep…those are horse shoes! She tries to play a country gal if nothing else…cute lamp base hey? Horse shoes and spurs…custom made just for her a few years ago. I love it!

A couple of dried flower arrangements were thrown together…

Some curtains were tossed up on to the windows…MY curtains...and some burlap was cut to tie them back. (she loved my kitchen curtain tie backs and wanted the same type for her room)

I gave her one of my old storm windows…and it hangs sweetly in between these two…

MY "friend" got busy and added a few accessories to her bedroom…and this room is off to a very good start…but…it is far from finished!!!
Now…this is all that I can show you for today…there are a few more pieces that are going to be added…and a new bed spread is in the works…I just need to get the other pieces of furniture Tootsiefied…and they will be added to the room. I can show you what they looked like before I got my hot little hands on them:

I am so excited to show you how they look now!!! You won’t even recognize them!
The top one didn’t really need much work. We mostly had to clean it up…and cut a new shelf for the inside. It looks good now…
The second one above…well it looks a LOT different today:

She got a good bath…and a nice coat of primer…Once the primer cured…I rubbed it all down with a dark walnut stain…and this is what I got! Poops loves it just like that…so that is how she stays…

Instead of hunting for hardware for the drawer handles…I simply used a little piece of jute string…it looks great right there at the side of the bed!
The rest of the room…well…it’s not ready yet. We did a whole lot more junkin’ and are workin’ on some more additions to the space… But…that is another post…and you will need to wait for the room to be complete before I show you! Ha! I know…what a tease hey?
…as for my "friend"…well I think it is safe to say she is much more cheerful now…she is not only loving the new look that is started for her master bedroom…but she is LOVING the junkin’!
I hope you have enjoyed your visit today!!!
Until Next Time…Happy Decorating/ Junkin’!
