Here we are again…waiting impatiently for spring to arrive. It is this time of year that keeps a gardener on her toes…especially when she has a greenhouse to plant.
I have been out there planting at every opportunity…and thought I’d give you a peek at what some of the seeds look like…as well as a little lesson in Planting!
I am revising an older post to share with you today. I have to go back and watermark every thing, so I figured, why not watermark this one and share it with you. There are several people patiently waiting for me to share some planting How-To posts…and this is as good a time as any!
Lets get started.
These are some of the seeds I have planted so far in the greenhouse!
I have included photos of some of the seeds that you may not have seen before...
Do you see these seeds? They are what is known as Pelleted. This means that they are coated so that they are not quite so small...and are easier to handle. It also means that I am not able to show you exactly what a Bacopa seed looks like.
With Bacopa, you do not cover the seed/pellet...you gently press it onto the surface of the soil.
These are covered lightly with potting soil...
Gerbera's are pressed into the surface of the soil as they need to have light to germinate.
Just cover lightly. (these are poison to your pets...and seem to taste very good to them...)
The pepper seeds are just seeds...they needed to be put 1/4 inch under the soil and kept warm and moist....(these are for Justine)
The Dusty Miller...does not need to be covered... just sprinkled on top of the soil, and kept in the light with plenty of moisture. (they are starting to sprout as of today)
Dianthus is started 1/4 inch deep and ...warm and moist
Impatiens do not need cover either...they need light to germinate. WOW!!!
These are the Geraniums we planted! Three days after they popped out of the soil!
Febuary 8.
Other seeds that were pelleted that I have planted are, Begonia, Petunia and Pansy, and Swedish Ivy. I did not take photos of them ...as they are appear the same as the Bacopa...at least until they sprout!
Once that happens it is a very different story...and we will have photos!

Impatiens are so great. I have some that keep coming back even though they say they are annuals. I guess it's their seeds. The thing is when they come back they don't come back the same color as what I planted...interesting?!

I love Dainthus!!! To me it is a flower of love! This particular flower predicted my future with me husband (I believe)! LOL!

Wow Tootsie... I can see why you haven't been around you have been like a mad scientist getting your garden ready... You have done a ton of work girlfriend and it will be just gorgeous when spring finally comes around... I am impressed... Can't wait to see all the flowers in the gardens

The progress you see me having made here in the greenhouse is the total sum of about 8 hours of work. Not bad...that is not including the watering each day and the countless trips outside to make sure all is going well.
You are truly amazing! Someday maybe I'll get the energy to plant from seeds. This year it's going to be a challenge just to get the yard alive and green again after the salt water fiasco from the water softener. I'm sure to be picking your brain alot about it when the snow melts!!
Oh I envy you being able to get your hands in the soil. I kept my geranium plant and brought it into the house, it looks healthy but no blooms.

Hi Tootsie,you have been busy.That must be so rewarding to grow all your plants from seed and so many to use everywhere.I just keep buying and filling and I don't like to think about how much it all costs.I love heliotrope,the smell is heavenly.Some years it doesn't seem to have as much scent,I think it depends on our humidity.
I know you have been lucky with your weather from talking to mys sister.Us,not so good.We have had a few breaks from the bitter cold but not much.There was even windchill warnings again last night.Next week looks better,I can't wait.I'm so tired of the cold.

WOW! You are one serious gardener. I have the ability to container garden where I live and have made a promise to myself to do it this year! I have two decks, one that gets sun until early afternoon and another that is more shaded .. so I should be able to have some little successes.
When the kids were little we planted and nursed some seedlings along (I put them on top of my fridge as it was warmer up there). The plant that did the best was the marigold!

This was such a neat post! Years ago, I use to raise plants when I worked with my parents at their home/garden store. But we raised geranium and begonia plants from plugs. I've never seen the seeds! Very interesting!

My window sill gets a lot of light too, but I dont know if it;s enough to sustain the plants after they sprout?

I thought about you this weekend when my babies were dieing right before my eyes.
I purchased one of those types of traYS at the store, had the soil. instructions said to plant the seeds, cover with lid and leave until the seeds pop up. Well, I planted zinnas, vincas, impatients, in the tray. The zinna ones came up first, the others did not. So I left the lid on until I saw some of the others coming up. Took the lid off, the zinna ones are all but dead. They were so pretty at first. Now, not so much.
I have tried this for several years and just do not get it right. You still inspire me to try!

So many wonderful seeds you have. My Hubby bought some seeds this year for me to add to our veggie garden. I thought something was wrong after 3 weeks and nothing. I called and found out it takes 5 weeks for this peppers to start growing from seed.
We use coated seeds so they are easier to see and control. My eyes just don't see things the way they used to :)
