Tree House Transformation

Susan at Between Naps on the Porch is the hostess of Metamorphosis Monday...I am joining this week to see if I can keep up! This is not my best change ever made...but it was a biggie...and I think I like the end result.

This eyesore was "gifted" to our kids by a friend that bought a house with it in the back yard...since he has no children...He loaded it (with a few good buddies) and dumped it off in my yard. My husband put a real roof on it and I set my eyes on some paint...this is how it looked in 2006.
This is the tree house in 2006 AFTER the transformation....no one played on the lower level...and they argued over space up top.
This is the tree house last year...see how the grass is starting to suffer? By the end of the summer...the grass was a total write off...dead as a door nail...and U-G-L-Y! SOOOO....
I went to wal-mart...bought some cheap flat bed sheets...stapled them on, added bungee cords and loop hooks...got some old alphabet foam tiles out of storage (to use as a floor-the same as is on the top)
That is "Suzy"...my "assistant's" doll...she is sitting on the park bench that is serving as furniture until I come up with something else to use in there.
I want to find a small table and chairs to put in there for them to play with...but these things take time!
I added a wooden box that I built out of wood scraps...it will be the mail box for now.
Curtains closed...looks like Suzy got the boot!
My lovely assistant and her little play mate (thorn in my side) from next door. They are pretending to be at the movies.
And....now they fight over nothing...some live upstairs...and some live down stairs! (at least for today)
Does it look silly?
Now...we have a severe weather alert in this area for tonight...SNOW with FROST and some RAIN along with THUNDERSTORMS!!!!! Keep your fingers crossed that all I see is the rain part...I can't cover with sheets if it is raining and snowing and blowing...either the sheets will blow away...or the moisture will crush what I covered! Keep your fingers crossed!!! I'm just a tad stressed!

Hi Tootsie! You're a genius! This little tree house looks awesome! I hope your kiddies appreciate you! I would have loved to have had something like this to play in when I was a little girl.
Snow? Did you say snow? Oh, I will pray you'll only get some rain!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

Tootsie, this is every little girl's magic playhouse. What can't you do? Hopefully Mother Nature will treat you and your little house with kindness............ It was in the high 40's early this morning and didn't rise out of the 60's. BUT snow? I think we're over that for now.

OMG...are you not the best MOM in the world?! I want to come play in there! Quick, get some of those plastic floor covers that painters use and cover it all up! I love it! Love the mailbox and the flower box...great transformation. Bet your friend would never recognize it now! Susan

Hi Tootsie !
We are having that cold weather here in Colorado today. We had hail and thunderstorms...yuck ! I planted a couple of Toppsy-Turvey tomato plants today when it stopped raining for a minute. We never have this much rain, the plants are "digging" it !
Hugs ~ Kammy
p.s. I love your little playhouse for the kids....Love the thorn in the side quote...

Tootsie now you'll probably have every kid in the neighborhood over your house. Who wouldn't want to play on that? It's adorable.

That is so cute and the kids look just delighted with their new space! Cindy

Now that's what I call ingenuity! It looks great. My granddaughters would love something like that. The crappy weather warnings Tootsie..that really must be hard to take. I sure hope you don't lose any plants. That would be so heartbreaking after all of your hard work. We have just started hurricane season here. I guess it's always something no matter where you live.

You did a wonderful job on the playhouse.
I must tell you before I got to your post I just had to stop and admired your garden photo on your header. What a beautiful garden!
Please no snow to tramatize your beautiful flowers!

Yes, it's cold!! I don't know what the temperature is but I do know that I have my portable heater on here in the office to keep me warm while I work. I just want to crawl under a nice fleece blanket and sleep!! We're supposed to have this rainy cold weather for the next week so it doesn't look to end soon. I don't think we'll have any snow as it isn't that cold but I'm trying to finish painting my old office tomorrow. It's all primed and ready to go but I need a dry day to do it in so I can open the windows and let it dry and get rid of the fumes!! Try to keep warm and I honestly do hope your plants survive your cold snap. They're so beautiful. I envy your gift of a green thumb! Cindy

Love what you did with the playhouse. That is so precious!!!!

You have been a busy bee today. You are a rockstar!!!!!

The playhouse is wonderful. I would have loved it when I was small. You're one darn creative girl. (We just had my mother's folding card table with old bed sheets draped over it.) I can't believe that you might have snow! I'll start praying like crazy that you only get rain. Miss you...will 'talk' soon...Nancy
PS: I think my gardens are trying to kill me! After working on edging beds most of the day,I can just about walk tonight!

Okay, that looks SUPER cool now with the sheets and flooring! OMG, I wish I'd had something like that when I was Busy's age. You're such a great mom!

Morning Toot's....ohhhh we have the same blog dress girl! lol lol I love it!

Love that transformation you did on the play gym...it makes it perfect for both girls and boys!

I can't believe you're still having cold weather up there...we are going in the 90's here today with plenty of sunshine...hope it doesn't get as bad as they think girl..

Girl our little garbage bag window boxes are still thriving....we planted one just in the planting soil over on the opposite side of the yard and we have to water it all the time....but not those on the porch! Oh and this year we tried a new trick that we heard of..we planted one of our tomatoe plants directly in the bag of Miracle Grow....just laid the bag on the ground....cut a small slit in the middle and planted our little tomatoe plant in it...the sun heated it up and causes it's own moisture and the tomatoe is growing!!!!! Yes it's true...I am growing a tomstoe and it has 4 big green tomatoes on it right now!!!! Oh happy day! lol lol Hey it's rough not having a green thumb....LIKE SOME PEOPLE I KNOW! lol Hope you have a great week Toots with no snow!

What a sweet little place to play. If this were mine I would get a mattress out there and be sleeping in the great outdoors this summer. I love the energizing feeling of sleeping on Mother Earth. I always wake feeling vitalized. With the sheets you have enough privacy.

Tootsie I love the colors you chose, they look great and the transformation is awesome! It does not look like the same play-house at all!

Of course it would not have the Tootsie touch if you did not add your trademark beautiful flowers!!

What a cute and clever little idea!! I bet your daughter LOVES it--it looks so pretty! How did it hold up from last night??? And did you say you were expecting snow? SNOW??!!

It's adorable!! Do you ever sleep?

How cute! Kids love to play in enclosed areas. I use those cheap $3 sheets from Wal-Mart all of the time for projects - you get a lot of fabric for the money. Way to go, Mom! Hope the snow doesn't materialize. Sally

My first thought of the before is it looked very American with it's red, white and blue! But the after is definitely a 100% improvement!
