Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:
If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like. The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!
You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly! All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted. So....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

This week came and went for me without too much notice.  It was busy for us as usual around my house…but nothing very memorable!  This is a good thing.   There was a LOT of Christmas Shopping being finished up, and a little housework in between errands!   Not much has been growing in my world…you see this is the way the weather is looking right now:

YA…it isn’t pretty…but it isn’t the worst it will be!   Life in Alberta is a chilly one in the winter months.   That is why it is important that I do things like this:

DSCN6624

can you see the plastic on the walls?

DSCN6625

Yep!   I finally got the greenhouse winterized!

DSCN6626

It makes things a little foggy for seeing in and out…but it holds the heat a lot better!

DSCN6627

I also did the ceiling.

DSCN6628

It was NO easy task getting up on the ladder and stapling that plastic up all over the place…in BETWEEN everything that is in there!

DSCN6629

Over all, I think it was worth the effort.  I will use a little less gas to heat the place, and things will stay a little warmer in the winter months to come.  We haven’t even begun the COLD part of the Alberta winter, so I am hopeful that this will be a blessing when those frigid temps

I also have something great to share!  I am so proud!!

Do you remember what plant I said was the ONLY plant that intimidated me???

If you said Orchid you are right on the money!   Well a couple of years ago I was named gardener of the month for Costa Farms…they sent me 4 beautiful Orchids as a gift…I was terrified!   The photo above is one of those Orchids!   I have two left…they live in the greenhouse, and I was sure they would never bloom again…until today!

IMAG0567

Do you see????   YAY!!!   Both of the surviving Orchids are getting ready to bloom!!!   WOOOO HOOOO!   I am so excited!

I can’t wait to show you when they bloom “out loud”!

Well kids…that is all for me for this week…now it is your turn…What are you waiting for??? Get flaunting!
I wish all of you hugs and smiles, and safe and happy weekend plans! Thank you all so much for dropping in today, and to those that faithfully link in to this party…and who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…it seems there are not enough hours in my day anymore!  THANK YOU!

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

In light of it being Thanksgiving in the U.S.  I have decided to suspend Fertilizer Friday for this week.  Many of the participants are American, and it is such a very busy time for everyone with all the preparations for the meal and all.  Next week will resume the usual festivities right here at the usual time!  I hope you will enjoy the following post that I have prepared for today instead of the flower flaunt.
I wish all of my American friends a very happy Thanksgiving with friends and family!

Salvaged Romance. Junkin’ Style.

Well HELLO THERE!  Welcome!  I am so glad you stopped by today!  I have been a busy Tootsie lately…up to my ears with things to share…I have been junkin’!!!  There are many stories that I want to tell you guys!  The best place to start, is the beginning, and that is just what I am going to do!  Grab a coffee…and lets get started!

It all started when a "friend" was having a very hard day.  She was seriously down in the dumps and needed some big time cheering up.  I needed to know what would make my friend smile.  I casually mentioned to her that  sometimes when I am down, I like to take an old piece of anything and make it into something fabulous…and by the end of the conversation, I had been charged with re-decorating her master bedroom.

If you recall, the beautiful old house next door to mine was sold to a young couple that is slowly restoring it.  They often ask me if I would like to play with any of the items they are sending to the dump, and over the past few months I not only have been lucky enough to have some gorgeous old storm windows…but they gave me three old wooden closet doors.   Oh those doors …well…let me show you of what I speak:
DSCN5776
I think in total these three old closet doors had about 20 coats of lead based paint on them!   They came to me as stark white, with a few chippy spots here and there.  These gorgeous babies are solid wood…and very heavy.  They are also… going to become one absolutely fabulous piece!
I have a lot of work to do to achieve my goal…
DSCN5778
I scrubbed…and chipped…and scraped…until I thought I was going to fall over…one door at a time…revealing several different colors of paint…by the time I was finished…I had revealed over 100 years of paint, and decorating adventures that they had lived through.
DSCN5781
This is where I ended up.   Do you see what the dilemma is now?
Yes…one door is shorter than the other two…AND there is one with mint green!   The other two don’t show a lot of that mint green…they have a little bit…but mostly there is a soft creamy yellow showing on them.
DON’T WORRY!!!   TOOTSIE HAS A PLAN!
I loaded those doors into the box of my truck and headed over to take them to their new home at top speed!
DSCN5890
Once I got there…the doors were taken into the master bedroom and arranged on the bed…I had brought supplies with me too…Three short pieces of 2x4, and a bag of screws.
GET THE DRILL OUT POOPS!
DSCN5891
We made a plan…the doors were positioned to a pleasing arrangement…and then the 2x4’s were secured to the backs of the doors to hold them all together…and then the LONG door…was cut to match the length of it’s opposite partner.
DSCN5898
Since the entire piece was going to stand up against the wall, I added a few foam pads to the back to for protection as it would lean against on the drywall…and we stood this baby up!
DSCN5901
Have you figured out what this is going to become yet???
DSCN5903
Yep!!!   It is a fabulous headboard!
This bedroom is coming together!
Next up…Windows…and a few other junked treasures needed to be amended to fit into this space.
DSCN5984
My "friend" and I had been shopping one day in a nearby town…we happened upon a junk/antique shop.   She had picked up this great old trunk…and I think I have the perfect spot for it!
Before it goes into the bedroom though, it needs a little something done.
DSCN5982
I added a four large chunky castors to the bottom of the trunk…for easy moving…and to raise it up a few inches as the bed is quite tall.
DSCN5990
I think it looks kind of cool with it’s new feet…:)
DSCN6007
With the trunk in place…we started to accessorize it.   A small lamp…and a few other things in her style were added.
DSCN6015
Yep…those are horse shoes!   She tries to play a  country gal if nothing else…cute lamp base hey?   Horse shoes and spurs…custom made just for her a few years ago.   I love it!
DSCN5999
A couple of dried flower arrangements were thrown together…
DSCN6022
Some curtains were tossed up on to the windows…MY curtains...and some burlap was cut to tie them back.  (she loved my kitchen curtain tie backs and wanted the same type for her room)
DSCN6024
I gave her one of my old storm windows…and it hangs sweetly in between these two…
DSCN6033
MY "friend" got busy and added a few accessories to her bedroom…and this room is off to a very good start…but…it is far from finished!!!
Now…this is all that I can show you for today…there are a few more pieces that are going to be added…and a new bed spread is in the works…I just need to get the other pieces of furniture Tootsiefied…and they will be added to the room.   I can show you what they looked like before I got my hot little hands on them:
DSCN6185
DSCN6199
I am so excited to show you how they look now!!!   You won’t even recognize them!
The top one didn’t really need much work.  We mostly had to clean it up…and cut a new shelf for the inside.  It looks good now…
The second one above…well it looks a LOT different today:
DSCN6340
She got a good bath…and a nice coat of primer…Once the primer cured…I rubbed it all down with a dark walnut stain…and this is what I got!   Poops loves it just like that…so that is how she stays…
DSCN6397
Instead of hunting for hardware for the drawer handles…I simply used a little piece of jute string…it looks great right there at the side of the bed!
The rest of the room…well…it’s not ready yet.  We did a whole lot more junkin’ and are workin’ on some more additions to the space…  But…that is another post…and you will need to wait for the room to be complete before I show you!  Ha!   I know…what a tease hey?
…as for my "friend"…well I think it is safe to say she is much more cheerful now…she is not only loving the new look that is started for her master bedroom…but she is LOVING the junkin’!

I hope you have enjoyed your visit today!!!
Until Next Time…Happy Decorating/ Junkin’!
*)*)*)... interesting how you no longer exist when you are no longer of use to a person...or "friend"

Seating For 6 Or More…At The Door

Welcome!   I am so glad you popped by today!   I am excited to share one of the projects that I have been working hard to finish around my house the last little bit.
I have been junkin’ just a little bit…ok…I have been junkin’ a lot lately.  A friend and I have had a little luck finding some fabulous things…and we have been playing a little with it all.   I have taken a few pieces to add to my house, and I am going to start the sharing today!
DSCN5954
I shared the doors that I picked up a few weeks ago, and today I am going to show you all what I did with one of them!  I began with cleaning it up…a lot.
DSCN6083
Once it was cleaned up I brought it into the house and set up a space to do some work on it.  I had to bring it inside as I needed to be able to use my china cabinet as a color reference.  This door is about to become my new dining room table!
I have a beautiful dining room table…but it is far too large for the space allotted in this house as a dining room.  It fit in…but then there was no room for people!  So…I put the table in storage…and got busy working on a new solution to the dining room problem!
DSCN6094
I began by laying down a tarp and protecting the floor below my work area…then I set my sights on paint.
DSCN6105
One nice thick coat of a good primer to both sides of the door was in order.  I needed this to be sealed up…It was very dirty when it came to me.  I also didn’t want any of the original blue to leech through and show up.  There is no blue in my dining room!
If you look closely at the photo above, you can see the original dining room table in the background.  I love it so, but it is just way too large for this space.
DSCN6108
With my primer dry…I started to rub the door with a gel stain in Dark Mahogany color.
DSCN6115
I LOVE playing with paint.   I think I might be addicted to the smell of paint too…ha ha!   I am not so crazy about the paint fume hangover I get the next day, but hey…It is worth it!
DSCN6121
Dark Mahogany on, I start adding some color!   I don’t wait for the different colors to dry…(who has the patience to wait…right?)  I just start rubbing them on.  The second color after the primer is called Cabernet.  I put it on in small patches all over the door…
DSCN6124
Just like this!
DSCN6132
The next thing I added was a few little touches of black high gloss paint the same way as I added the cabernet.  please ignore the disaster mess in the background!  ugh.
DSCN6147
I then went back over the entire door…colors and all with Dark Mahogany again…it blends the colors together a little…so there are no definite lines of color addition…it just kind of softens the lines out.
After all the colors are added to my preference…I needed to wait for the door to cure.   It was left overnight to do this.
DSCN6155
In the morning, I got up bright and early…and started to focus on things such as legs….I was gifted these fantastic legs…but there is just one problem…one was broken a bit…
DSCN6157
Have no fear!  It's an easy fix...a pair of wooden blocks glued together for me to put on the top of the short leg.   Yay!!   I love these legs…and I think they will be perfect for this project!
DSCN6159
I got a cowboy to help me with putting the legs on…and decided that I didn’t want this table project to look like a door sitting on some legs…I needed to dress it up just a little bit.  So, I went to the storage room downstairs and pulled up three pieces of crown moulding to add as a skirt to the table.
DSCN6162
I treated it in pretty much the same way that I did the table top.  There is a little more black involved with the skirt…I needed to make it match the china cabinet after all!
DSCN6170
The legs are going to be just perfect…
DSCN6174
That cowboy did a fabulous job attaching them to the door…and making a little support for the crown moulding to attach to.  (My next project is going to be that ugly fireplace in the background!  I hate that thing!)
DSCN6177
TA-DA!!!
DSCN6250
I don’t think i want to paint the legs!  I like them just the way they are!
DSCN6258
The skirt looks amazing on there!
DSCN6260
I plan to find old wooden chairs to sit around the table on…and I think I will try to distress them to look like the legs ….
DSCN6252
It looks wonderful!…but now… need to address that horrible little curtain situation that was on the window in this room…That was a no brainer…
DSCN6454
I hung a layer of sheer curtains, and then on another rod over top, I added lace sheers…and tied them back with burlap!   Not bad I think…
DSCN6463
I like the mix of the casual and the formal…it suits this space.
Man is it hard to take a good photo of the window when the sun is shining!  ha ha !
DSCN6493
My dining room feels good now…lots of room for family and friends to sit around the table…and there are some pretty things in here for us all to enjoy.
DSCN6456
I am in love with the black chandelier that we put in.  (except for it shows the dust really bad)  ha ha !
DSCN6462
The very first chance I had, I hosted a dinner party for all those who were involved in the making of this room…from my junkin’ partner and her hubby, to the cowboy…in total there were 8 of us all sitting around this table enjoying each other’s company and having a nice meal.
I am so happy that I tried this idea.  I really like this table, and I love the way my dining room is coming together.  Right now, I am just using iron chairs that I have from another set that I have, but eventually you will see this room again, when I have enough old wooden chairs distressed to perfection to match the legs of the door turned dining table in my house!
I hope you have enjoyed your visit today!!!
Until Next Time…Happy Decorating/ Junkin’!
