Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers May 31/13

Copy_of_001
WELCOME!

Do you know what day it is???

It’s Friday !!!!

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol)  It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!!

Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!

If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?”
Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like.

The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted.

So?????....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

Today's post is going up a little early today because I am going to be away all weekend.

OH MY WORD YOU GUYS!!!

I have been super busy this week!!!

There seems to be no time to post or do much of anything but scrub the dirt off myself!!!   There have been some LONG days in the garden this week…and I have a lot of pain in my arms because of it…I have been having trouble using the computer as my hands are painful when my shoulders and arms are inflamed…but…here I am to flaunt for you…and to host the party that shares the MOST gorgeous people and gardens ever!

Lets get started!

Today I am sharing a project that Grampie and I did yesterday!

BeFunky_photoe1.jpg
There is this UGLY space in my side yard.  I just hate that it is so messy looking all the time.   When Grampie presented me with his idea…I jumped at it right away.  I was excited to start, especially since I got to raid some of his junk stash!  Smile

BeFunky_e2.jpg
Grampie offered me some of the cinder blocks that he has out at the farm!   Hey…he doesn’t often OFFER to share his stash….he usually guards it against people like me…ha ha…He even helped me get the project done!

BeFunky_photow4.jpg
I loaded 39 cinder blocks into the box of my truck and two large tubs of soil.   Grampie brought the plants and some soil in his truck and we got busy!  The blocks were placed, leveled and straightened.
We got rained out just as we were finishing placing the blocks and had to stop for an hour or more.  That thunderstorm brought hail, heavy rain and it was not fun!
BeFunky_photo3.jpg
Once the rain stopped, we got busy!~

BeFunky_0065.jpg
I planted one little Cotton Easter shrub  in each hole of the blocks…

BeFunky_0036.jpg
We had exactly enough plants!!!   How lucky are we??  haha!

BeFunky_0017.jpg
It looks amazing!!!  Just as I finished planting the last little plant, it once again started to rain!   It was at that point that Grampie had had enough!   He called it a day and took off.

BeFunky_0088.jpg
I decided that I needed to finish…besides a little water wouldn’t hurt this dirty girl…

BeFunky_0139.jpg
I pruned these little plants back to help them to adjust and to level them off a little bit.  By the time I was finished…I was soaked right through…and had to stop!
No...I am not wearing knee pads....that is mud...yes...I do tend to look like this a lot in the summer.  :)

BeFunky_023.jpg
It looks MUCH better…I don’t really mind the jungle look, but a hedge isn’t really a good place to create that style!  This is a narrow area, and I need to keep this neat and crisp!
This hedge will be filled in and thick in no time flat!

BeFunky_016.jpg
I also need to paint the blocks.  Not really loving the old colors right now.  These blocks bring back a lot of memories for me…they are cast off blocks from the elementary school I attended when I was a child.  They renovated and re-built parts of the school, and my mom and dad got to have as many of the blocks as they wanted!  So…not only did I reclaim part of my child hood…but I repurposed the cement blocks instead of them ending up in the local landfill!
I had a great day working on this project.  Not only did I get to make an ugly space look much better, I got to hang out with my Dad.  I am excited to see this area finished and growing nicely…but this is where I am for today!
Stay tuned for part two of the back yard renovation!!!  I have lots of things to share!  I might even include a flower or two!  haha!

This brings us to the end of my flaunt for this week…and YOU know what that means!!!

That means…I can’t wait to see what you have!

Well…what are you waiting for???

GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

I wish all of you hugs and smiles, and safe and happy weekend plans!

Thank you all so much for dropping in today, and to those that faithfully link in to this party…and who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…it seems there are not enough hours in a day anymore...THANK YOU!

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

Back Yard Renovation…part 1 An Evening Of Demolition

BeFunky_DSCN4439.jpg
Remember the old shed that was in the yard when I moved here?  I cute-ed it up with flowers…

BeFunky_DSCN4438.jpg
I am sure you do…I also know you will remember the Red Neck Shed Move post…  Man was this bugger heavy!!!  That was also the day I introduced you to my cowboy…  we sure did have fun that day!

BeFunky_DSCN5027.jpg
Well…  One evening last week, GRAMMIE decided that it was about time that this moldy old shed would go!   Those who know her…know that when my mother decides something…  its done.  She does NOT mess around.
With her mind made up…  she grabbed Grampie, and dragged him over to our house…  and got things on the go!

BeFunky_0013.jpg
Grampie and my Cowboy got to work straight away… removing the siding and dismantling this old shed.
We did have high hopes of just dismantling the shed, and putting a new foundation under it…  but sadly…  it is rotten almost everywhere!
Pretty much the entire structure has to go.

BeFunky_011.jpg
EVERYTHING that was in the shed was moved to my greenhouse!!!
EEK!!!
My baby is a mess!

BeFunky_DSCN4381.jpg
Grammie also suggested that we move this shed too.
I worked SO hard to build the base for this shed to sit on last spring…  and now we are moving it???
It has to be done…  this tiny shed is also going to be leaving the property…  it isn’t functional for us, and it is not terribly attractive…  I will give it to someone who can use it once we build a new one.

BeFunky_004.jpg
The little tin shed was picked up and quickly moved onto the gravel pad.
EASY PEAZY!

BeFunky_0021.jpg
OH NO!!!
WHERE are you going Grammie ????
These old poops are hard to manage anymore…  they are ALWAYS into mischief…   ESPECIALLY when they appear to be SNEAKING!!!!
They always say that you get back what you did as a child ten fold…  EXCEPT I am pretty sure they meant with one’s children…  I get it back from my own parents AND my children!  Smile  I must have been very bad in a past life!

BeFunky_012.jpg
BUSTED!!!  She is trying to make off with a birdbath!!!   That thing is made of cement and is HEAVY!
Good thing Grammie is as strong as an OX!   hahahaha!   YEP Grammie…  you are an “OXY” old broad!  Smile
After about an hour and a half of removing the siding and taking the door off, the window out and a few other little things…
It’s time!!!   It’s Time!!!   It’s Time!!!
Grammie!!!
Cover your eyes!!!
The shed is about to come right down!

BeFunky_0153.jpg
Good girl Grammie!
Those boys just lifted that shed up enough…  and boom!!!

BeFunky_026.jpg
It collapsed right onto itself!
Gross hey???
It was at that point, that Grammie decided that her work here was DONE…  and she loaded up her baby (Grampie) and they went home.  (probably to eat Cheezies and relax a bit)
They left me and my Cowboy to finish the job.

BeFunky_020.jpg
This is a mess.
It is going to be a big job to finish taking this shed apart.

BeFunky_023.jpg
My Cowboy and I worked on it for a little bit that evening, and when it got late, and we couldn’t make noise anymore…  we went inside for the night.
On my way inside, I remember thinking to myself…  my yard looks like a photo from one of those hidden object games!

BeFunky_038.jpg
Morning came and we got busy cutting and moving the rotten wood to the gravel pad.
I just can’t stand the mess!!!

BeFunky_029.jpg
My Cowboy had a pretty good idea that I was freaking out about the mess and decided to light the fire pit for me.
It was the perfect way to get rid of all that scrap without wrecking up the box of my truck!!!   Besides, the box of my truck and the box of my Cowboy’s truck were both full of garbage and junk that is slated for the garage sale we are hosting early next month!

BeFunky_032.jpg
Burn moldy wood…  BURN!

BeFunky_033.jpg
In just a few short hours, that shed was GONE!

BeFunky_037.jpg
I was left with a LOT of work to do!!!    Between the dog pee patches from the neighbors pets and the dead spot from the shed...
This spot…

BeFunky_018.jpg
…This spot…

BeFunky_024.jpg
…and this spot..(among other things)
…DESPERATELY need a little Tootsie Time!!!!

I wasted NO time...   I got right to work...   I have a wonderful idea!!

I absolutely cannot wait to show you what I did!!!

Tune in next time for part two of the back yard renovation!

Until Next Time…Happy Gardening!

WELCOME!

Do you know what day it is???

IT IS THE FIRST DAY OF THE VERY FIRST LONG WEEKEND OF THE SUMMER!

It’s Friday !!!!

I have things to share this week!!!

I have been working my fingers to the bone trying to get things ready to plant…

016
…and filling pots, delivering what needed to go…
(what an ugly looking mess I have here!)

019
….and trying to prep some new additions to the gardens.

I will share what this is next week once I get a chance to partially finish what is going to happen here!

I am EXHAUSTED…and feeling like there is not enough time in a day.

Once again I have not had the time or the energy to visit you all who visit…and I am so sorry.  Please be patient, I will be around…I just need more time!   Being a single parent of three very busy kids, and having a myriad of responsibilities is catching up to me this month!

Once the flowers are all planted I will have time…I hope…to visit and chat and flaunt with you all!

008
The greenhouse is looking a little empty these days.

009

010

011
I need to decide if these guys are going to grace the gardens…or stay in the greenhouse.  They are a few years old already…so decisions need to be made here…they are HUGE!

013
This Jade is my baby and she doesn’t leave the greenhouse no matter what!   I am so proud of her!

014
I do need to get in here and put my shade barrier up next week…hopefully my legs will let me stand up long enough.  I have fibromyalgia in my legs…and this week has been a struggle trying to keep the pain managed so that I can do some work!   Getting old sucks!

015
We have a fence!!!  Grampie and my Cowboy worked their little asses right off for the last few days!   It is almost done and I love it!

That means all my flowers can sit in waiting out in the yard and have at least a little protection!

I need to fix that dog damaged lawn, and get my planting going!!!

Hey YOU...Teenage Boy!!! Keep It Clean!

I am the mother of one Teenage Boy….I love my Duchy (pronounced “Doochie”) dearly but am glad there is only one boy in my house!   He is messy and absent minded...moody and MUCH too tall for his own good...but he is always going to be my first and only Baby Boy!

(he is NOT going to like that I wrote that part....hahaha!...but after the mess I just cleaned up...he deserves it!  hahahahaha!)

While he was away over the Easter Break, I set myself up for a HUGE job…To clean up and re-decorate his bedroom.   The decorating part was easy…it was the cleaning part that got my goat.
I did not take any photos as I was far to mad to think about photographs of the pig pen I was in.  It was only a few weeks before that I had helped him clean up and get organized…so this infuriated me.  He was probably lucky that he was all the way in Arizona and his angry little mommy was in Alberta!

I worked for several hours in Duchy’s room…and finally I began to see the light at the end of this tunnel…The room was clean…it was organized…and it was ready to decorate!

I didn’t have time to do all that I wanted before he got home…but I did make it look like a teenage boy lives here!

045

I re-positioned his bed…moved pretty much all his furniture around.  Got rid of a couple of pieces…the x-rocker and the big pirate trunk full of super heros…had to go.   So I deleted them.  He has a lot more room now.

037

He still has all the teenage boy “essentials”   he has his extra loud speakers for his stereo system…and his sports mementos…

058

He has storage for his clothes etc….I do want to re-finish this old dresser one of these days.  The newer one that was bought for him when he was younger is not in good shape anymore, and isn’t worth fixing right now…this one was much more functional…and solid..so it is what we will keep.

042

Tootsie had to get creative with this window…hanging a curtain over it made the room feel like a dungeon.   I am a firm believer in natural light when possible, so I used my imagination.   I had a couple of plastic garden fence things in the greenhouse that I was aching to use in a fun way…I cut the pointy parts off the bottom…(the part that goes into the ground) and hung it on his window!    I did not remove the film stuff that was on the glass when we moved in, as this window is going to be changed possibly this spring.

The addition of a fake plant and some old boxing gloves finished that area nicely!   I love the look of the window now.

043

I hung his two hockey canvas’s on the wall over the headboard on his bed…

…and turned my attention to the other side of the room.

046

His closet was a mess…but it is now all organized.   the long door is where he hangs clothes…the short door has his playstation and games as well as a little flat screen t.v.   There will be rules about how much gaming is going to be allowed to happen, and if they are not followed…there will be a lock installed.

047

Now, I know you are itching to see better what’s going on beside that closet aren’t you????

051

Well….beside the closet, there is a small shelf with baskets for stuff…all organized…nice an neat. (yes there are some Easter candies there…he has a little sister that still believes in the bunny…so it is mandatory that he play along… ha ha!)

052

I know…I know…that basket shelf wasn’t what you wanted to see….THIS is what you wanted to see!

I attached 4 empty clean paint cans to the wall and filled them with his favorite cookie!

Yep…fortune cookies…Duchy LOVES his fortune cookies…and I really love that they are in these cans!   I hope he thinks that it’s as awesome as I do!

062

The cats sure do miss their kids when they are away…Ginger spent a lot of time in Duchy’s room while he was gone. She normally stays closer to Georgie…but when they are way….Duchy is IT! ha ha!

At least I got photos of this room BEFORE he gets his hands on it. It will never stay this way, and I am ready for that…I can always live in the photos! ha ha!!

That is all I have to share today!  What do you think?   I like the room…and he LOVED it!   I hope he keeps it at least a fraction of how clean it is in the photos!!

Stay Tuned….Busy’s room is next!

Thank you all again for the wonderful display of support you showed us all last week.  We are all grateful to you for the prayers.  To see the update on how my Dad is doing...click here

Until Next Time….Happy Decorating!
