YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW

Before I share a little story with you all today…I just want to say:
Happy Canada Day!!!! to all of my Canadian friends and followers…We are a proud Country…a strong people and I am so glad I live here!
flag_alberta_thumbnail

As we attend the Festivities of Canada Day, there are bound to be crowds of people, of all walks of life.  I ask you to keep in mind the following story as you head out to celebrate.

You Reap What You Sow

“Good morning”  said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on the ground.

The man slowly looked up.
This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.

His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others had done before.. "Leave me alone," he growled....

To his amazement, the woman continued standing.
She was smiling -- her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. "Are you hungry?" she asked.
"No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the president. Now go away."

The woman's smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand under his arm.

"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me alone.

Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked..

"No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this man to his feet. Will you help me?"

The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?"

"See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something to eat and get him out of the cold for awhile."

"Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in there!" Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. "Let me go, officer. I didn't do anything."

"This is a good deal for you, Jack" the officer answered. "Don't blow it.."

Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch bunch had not yet arrived...

The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. "What's going on here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this, is this man in trouble?"

"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered.

"Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here is bad for business.."
Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll let me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place."
The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled....... "Sir, are you familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?"

"Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly meetings in one of my banquet rooms."

"And do you make a godly amount of money providing food at these weekly meetings?"
"What business is that of yours?"

I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company."
"Oh."

The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference." She glanced at the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join us in a cup of coffee and a meal, officer?"

"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty."
"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?"

"Yes, ma’am. That would be very nice."

The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, "I'll get your coffee for you right away, officer."

The officer watched him walk away. "You certainly put him in his place," he said.
"That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this."
She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She stared at him intently.. "Jack, do you remember me?"

Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. "I think so -- I mean you do look familiar."

"I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more than in my younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold and hungry."

"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.

"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city looking for a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on the off chance that I could get something to eat."

Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said.. "I was behind the serving counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said that it was against company policy."

"I know," the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble... Then, when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, I knew then that everything would be all right."

"So you started your own business?" Old Jack said.

"I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my own business that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her purse and pulled out a business card.. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a visit to a Mr. Lyons...He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talk to him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get on your feet... If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you."
There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?" he said.
"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. Thank Jesus...... He led me to you."

Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before going their separate ways...

"Thank you for all your help, officer," she said.

"On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle today, something that I will never forget. And.. And thank you for the coffee."

God is going to shift things around for you today and let things work in your favor.
God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close…

I received this story in an email from a good friend…and it touched me enough to share with you all.  I have got a few friends who are having a difficult time for one reason or another right now…and I think this story is fitting for each of them to read.

Without any more delay…I wish you all a HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!   Be Safe Friends!

Until Next Time…Happy Celebrating!

*)*)*)   Happy endings in life are not just handed-out...You have to fight for them, earn them..and only with bruised hearts, torn souls, and sacrifices are they won...

Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers June 27/ 13

Copy_of_001
WELCOME!
Do you know what day it is???
It’s Friday !!!!
Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol)  It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!!
Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!
If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?”
Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:
If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like.

The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted.

So?????....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

I may be late to my own party...but it will be worth the wait...I promise!

The week has been INSANE...I have been on the go 16 hours a day since last Wednesday...and I can honestly say...I am pooped!

Have you ever wished you could add a little more time to each day?   Just a few hours would do it right?   I know that feeling ALL too well.   I still haven't managed to look at all of my mail, much less visit any of my favorite people online!   I am once again begging you to forgive my absence.  It is not intentional...I swear.

We had some severe weather here in Alberta Canada this past week.   A lot of rain fell and a lot of things are suffering.  I can't complain however, as I live in north central Alberta.   Many to the south of us had WAY too much rain fall in a very short period of time, and posessions, homes, and lives were lost to Mother Nature's rage.   My heart goes out to those folks who are affected by this natural disaster...

I have some hail damage...and some rain damage to my blooms, but I have no doubt things will be pretty and flauntable in no time flat!   Here is what I do have blooming that is in good shape:

My Pansy's seemed to love the cooler temps and all the rainy weather last week.

The Hydrangea was happy not to have the heat of the sun...Looks like she is going to bloom for me!!!  Yay!!!

I am excited to plant the hardy Wisteria that I found a couple of weeks ago!!!   I LOVE Wisteria...and hope desperately to be able to keep it alive...maybe one or two of you guys have a few tips for me????

Tiger Lillies are going to pop out some color any day now!!!

The Nine Bark is getting ready to flower!...

Yeee Haw!!!   The clematis I put in last spring is growing like a weed!!!   I suppose I best get my butt out there and put up a little support for it...It looks like a drunk leaning on the window box flowers!  ha ha!

Don't you just LOVE the way the blooms of an Ageratum look like tiny cheer leader pom poms???   What???   They do so!

I am enchanted by the leaves of the Silver Swedish Ivy.   They look SO soft!  They remind me of the tongue of a magical lion in one of my kid's movies...I am too tired to remember which one...sorry!  ha ha

Well...that's it for me this week...I need to finish up so I can get some rest...Tomorrow I have another crazy busy day on the calendar.  I hope I get a lot crossed off my list!

I will leave you with a shot of my Hosta...no pun intended....OKAY...pun intended...:)

That means…I can’t wait to see what you have!

Well…what are you waiting for???

GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

I wish all of you hugs and smiles, and safe and happy weekend plans!

Thank you all so much for dropping in today, and to those that faithfully link in to this party…and who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…it seems there are not enough hours in a day anymore...THANK YOU!  Again, I feel just terrible that I haven’t had time to get around to everyone lately…I miss seeing your shares!

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

*)*)*)  Forgive those who are not worth forgiving. Love those who are unlovable. Let kindness rule your actions. Smile at everyone & change the world 1 person @ a time.

Add To Junkin' Cart??? Yes Please!!!

Welcome!

When last we met, I left you with this photo.
030_thumb[16]
I asked you if you noticed the new addition to my garden.  Did you find it?   That new addition is where today’s story/post begins.

Sadly, I had taken a bunch of photos of my new addition, and the step by step process to making it part of my gardens, but somewhere along the line…I misplaced them!  So, I had to do some fancy work to take a few more, so that I could share my story.

Lets get started.

A few months ago I went to a garden show in Seattle Washington with my Cowboy.  While we were there, I spotted a rusty old shopping cart that I REALLY wanted BAD.
099
My Cowboy, who is very practical and level headed refused to indulge my junkin’ urge.
the bad guys_thumb[5]
He did not want to walk around in downtown Seattle pushing a rusted old shopping cart (or carrying it if the wheels didn’t work)  and saunter up to our very nice hotel room with it.

He absolutely refused to let me purchase this most beautiful piece of junk.   I was very sad.
264
He tried to distract me with other things, thinking I would forget all about that little shopping cart issue…but- I would have none of that.  I must have driven my sweet cowboy crazy with all the shopping cart talk.

When we got home, I shared a photo and my desperation to have said shopping cart with my Dad.   Now, if you have been following Tootsie Time for a while, you will know that I was raised by the KING of junk…and if he doesn’t have it, he knows where to find it.   He tried to settle my whining by telling me he knew where there was one, and that he just might be able to get it for me.   I was a little happier.

I waited…and waited and whined a little more about my NEED for this rusty old shopping cart, and STILL there was nothing coming my way.   I was not happy.    I was desperate and admittedly a little grumpy about it.

I had all but given up on my quest for a beautiful old shopping cart all adorned with beautiful rust and wear, when one day I arrived home from some errands to the most wonderful surprise.  A SHOPPING CART!

He had tossed it on the front lawn as if it was garbage and left it for me to find when I drove into my parking spot.   I was so excited I nearly forgot to put my truck in park!

The heat was on!   I had yapped about this shopping cart for so long, that he finally got me one, and now I had to do something with it!   I stared and stared at this cart… it is much bigger than the one I saw in Seattle, that got me into this tizzy.   WHAT on earth will I do with a full size one???

I was blocked… drawing a stone cold blank!   I moved it around my yard, from spot to spot to see if it would fit into my garden somewhere…anywhere!   NOTHING seemed to make my eyes smile.   I just could not figure it out!   So…I set it aside…and put it out of my mind… I needed inspiration to smack me square in the face.

One afternoon, as I was primping and pruning and playing with my flowers, getting things ready to photograph for Friday’s weekly party, I got the idea I had been waiting for.
004
This corner was screaming for me to do something new.  It didn’t  “work” quite the way I wanted it to anymore…and I needed it to change…NOW.   I ran to the side of the house, and grabbed my wonderful old shopping cart.   I was inspired!
043
I moved the ladder to lean against the fence…and supported it with a bunch of old clay pots that were no longer strong enough to hold anything, or were broken.  I leaned my rusty old shovel piece against the ladder and got busy.

I gathered some left over annuals from this year’s greenhouse crop and a few little pieces of junk for decoration and set to planting.

It took me a while, but I figured out how to plant that shopping cart…I turned an empty bag from the bales of soil that I use in the greenhouse inside out…so that there was no writing visible…and filled it with potting soil.

I planted that baby right up!
035
I poked a few holes in the sides to add some trailing lobelia to the mix, and to help hide the black bag I used to plant in.   I added a pot of portulaca, an old watering can and a ceramic angel to the bottom. and stood back to admire my work.     It needed more.
038
I added a left over piece of garden hose…
039

037
…a couple of rusty plant hangers…
009
…placed an ornamental cabbage in the wash tub that was there before…and set it by the back handles of the cart.
038
There was one small window box left over from my spring planting, so I did it up to put into the seat of the cart…and I was DONE!!!

I waited a week or two before I shared it, to make sure that things were going to survive, and now I am ready to show you my fabulous, slightly rusted old shopping cart…done up Tootsie Style!
034
Ta-Da!!!
011

008
I am loving it!  I hope the rust spreads and fills the entire thing with glorious rustic color!
041
For now, I am happy with my semi- rusted old shopping cart.

I can’t wait to see it all filled in and blooming like crazy!

That’s it for me today…I have just one more thing to say:

HA-HA COWBOY!   I GOT A SHOPPING CART!   (he actually really likes it…in spite of himself!)

So?  What do you think???   How did I do?   Do you need a cart now???

Until Next Time…Happy Junkin’, Plantin’ and Gardening!

*)*)*) show me a person who has never made a mistake…and I will show you someone who has never achieved much.

WHERE did the week go?  It feels like I just posted a party link up yesterday and here I am again!
I don’t know about you guys, but I have been BUSY.  There are not enough hours in each day for this girl anymore…and this past week has been even more hectic for us!
The sun has been on strike here…and not making much for appearances this week…it has been rainy and down right cold outside all week long.  I mowed grass in winter clothes the other day!   I don’t mind a little rain, but this heavy duty crappy weather…rain, cold and wind can go elsewhere!
In spite of it all…things seem to be growing slowly but surely…take a look:
019
In and amongst the massive amounts of chick weed that I have growing in my gardens right now…I have a few pretty things blooming!   IRIS!!!   Oh I love the flowers of the Iris plant!  I wish they would re-bloom again and again all summer long.
057
My pots are doing great!   This is a wave petunia and alyssum combo!  Looks fantastic and smells great!
060
The pansy’s in my flower beds are happy as can be!   I love seeing them all in bloom!
061
I am so leased to see that the lime color petunias that I planted finally coming to life!   I had all but written them off as gonners!
030
Do you see anything you think that I might be excited to post about soon????   Look closely and you just might see it!

This brings us to the end of my flaunt for this week…and YOU know what that means!!!

That means…I can’t wait to see what you have!
Well…what are you waiting for???

Challenge Taken Part 3: Willow Corner

If you are just tuning into this series, you can access parts one and two by clicking here.   If you have been following along…lets get started!
BeFunky_IMG00145-20130531-1630.jpg
When last we met here, I left you with a preview of the area at Mr. and Mrs. P’s farm I like to call Willow Corner.
It’s not a terrible space the way it is…but it could use a little “something” to make it fantastic…don’t you agree?
BeFunky_052.jpg
I stared and stared at this space.   I racked my brain…Mrs. P wants this area to be a vignette that says relax…a still life that represents both nostalgia and a new beginning.
The space used to be filled with wild flowers and perennial plants.   It is now just a turned soil area where the windbreak of trees meets the rest of the yard.  The flowers in this space were removed, as Mrs. P simply didn’t have the time, the energy or enough interest to maintain and care for them.   We all know that a neglected garden is a mess, and Mrs. P hates mess.
So…This space needs a low maintenance Tootsie Touch.
BeFunky_052.jpg
The chairs and little table will stay.  That is a given.   I need to add some interest to this space and still keep the rustic feeling of this area…hmmmm.
BeFunky_0541
I remembered a bit of a conversation I had with Mrs.P earlier that week.   She said they love the way the pine trees make their own ground covering…like a carpet below them.   This gave me an idea!  I will make a primitive floor for this space!
I ran to the junk pile and got myself busy!
BeFunky_056.jpg
Once I got things going, and decided on the round rather than the square posts…I was good to go…this space started to flow…and it just kept getting better and better as the time went on!
BeFunky_065.jpg
I had tried a little of this and a little of that in this space…what didn’t work got stuck over here in the corner, to  wait for me to either find it a home, or put it away.  At one point Mrs. P walked up to see how I was doing and noticed it.  She thought I did that on purpose and likes it right where it is…so it stays!
BeFunky_060.jpg
I added a few more pieces of junk to that area…and some driftwood that they had collected on vacations from years past…I also moved a large concrete paver to this space.   It was one that the grandchildren had made with hands and feet prints.   This area became a bit of a memory garden so to speak.
BeFunky_059.jpg
…It seems that this entire area just got a little bigger!  lol
Mr. P is VERY protective of ALL of his trees….so there was NO pruning of any kind happening…I needed to be able to work around them…and I did.   Around, Under, Between and Beside… I even managed to find inspiration in them!
This space is looking “okay” but not floating my boat the way I want it to ….YET.
It feels like something is missing.
BeFunky_0281
Ahhh….that’s much better.   I added an archway, and a few plants.  Those ferns that everyone loves so much are coming in very handy!!!   I will plant a vine in the archway…and talk Mrs. P into a couple of potted flowers…and that should finish my space!
BeFunky_026.jpg
I added one last thing.  I put a carpet of pine needles and cones in the wood floor, and added a few little special things here and there.  Mrs P loved it!
BeFunky_025.jpg
I just can’t seem to get the photos to make this space appear the way it does in person.   It is beautiful…calm and loaded with family memories.  It is exactly what Mrs. P wanted it to be.   She loves the potted flowers…loves the ferns …and is pleased as punch with the entire thing in general!
Next up…
BeFunky_IMG00147-20130531-1635.jpg
Granny’s Garden.   This is going to be a challenge!!!
Stay tuned…You will probably be surprised at the finished project!

That’s it for me today…I have loads to do today and need to get started!
Until Next Time…Happy Gardening!

*)*)*)   Never regret doing something that made you happy..

I hope everyone’s week was as productive as mine was!   I managed to get a lot of things done this week, in spite of my arms being so sore!   I finished up the yard for Mrs. P, and did a lot of things in my own gardens to finish up the planting!   I officially have no flowers left in greenhouse containers waiting for me to find them a home!  Yay!!!…
BeFunky_098.jpg
Let me take you on a little tour of some of my favorite things in my gardens today.
BeFunky_021.jpg
I moved my rocking chair to the back by the greenhouse for now.   I think the hanging baskets look wonderful so far this year!
BeFunky_020.jpg
I made a few changes to the placement of some pots…
BeFunky_031.jpg
…I turned this one into a coleus planter.  It will be happy here in the semi shade from the huge spruce tree.
BeFunky_081.jpg
The bacopa is going gang busters this year!
BeFunky_046.jpg
In the last couple weeks I have had people asking about the piano that I turned into a planter last summer.  Yes it is still in the front yard…and I hope it looks fantastic once that lobelia finally catches up and starts to flow!
BeFunky_039.jpg
There are not too many perennials in my gardens, but there are a few…I love Iris’s…and can’t wait to see these ones bloom!
BeFunky_038.jpg
At this point in the season, this is my favorite planter.  I hung it on the gate going into the back yard from the front.   It is full and smells fantastic!
BeFunky_008.jpg
My last share for today is a shot of two of the window boxes I added to my gardens this year.  They are filling in and looking great so far!
This brings us to the end of my flaunt for this week…and YOU know what that means!!!

That means…I can’t wait to see what you have!

Well…what are you waiting for???

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

*)*)*)   Every day isn't a good day, but there is good in every day. So take today find the good pass on the bad and make it a your day!
