Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Oct. 25/13

Copy_of_001
Do you know what day it is???

It’s Friday !!!!

Friday is a BIG day for us here at Tootsie Time…(ok, just me…there is no one else here…lol)  It’s a big deal because it means it’s PARTY TIME!!!!

Fertilizer Friday is the day of the week than an ELITE group of gardeners from all around the world get together, snap photos, link up and Flaunt Their Flowers!!!

If you are new to Tootsie Time and Fertilizer Friday, I just know you are asking yourself…”How do I join?”
Well…it’s easy really. Here’s all you need to know to become a part of this great group of gardeners, bloggers and friends:

If it is spring or summer where you live, you need to snap a few photos of what you have growing, blooming or just love to look at that is of the plant variety…if it is winter where you live, you may post past favorite photos…or indoor plants…whatever you like.

The only criteria is that it is a plant or something growing!

You do not need to use fertilizer to participate in this party, but if you do, this is the reminder to fertilize weekly!

All I ask is that: Your post must include the logo above and/or a link to Tootsie Time, or the linky will be deleted

I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...
We made it another week in my area of Alberta with not even one flake of snow!   YAY!!!  The weather has actually been lovely!  With the exception of Tuesday, it has been warm and sunny outside.
I haven’t really been outside much to enjoy that warm weather…as I have been running my little rump off working on a myriad of different things.   I just wish I could make two of me, so I could be everywhere that I need to be, AND play online all day!  My apologies for not making it around to visit you guys last week.   It is getting crunch time to get things done before the end of the month, and I am almost there!
Anyways…back to the flaunt.   I am breaking the rules this week just a little bit.   My flaunt isn’t growing…heck it isn’t even real…but it is out in the garden, so I am doing it anyways.
BeFunky_015.jpg
When we all met last week…I showed you photos of my house with NOTHING growing in the gardens. It looks VERY sad.   Winter stinks on ice and I just can’t wait for spring to arrive here.  I had posed the question to you about what I should do with the window boxes that hang on the house… there were a lot of great suggestions from you guys!
What I decided to do…was go faux!
BeFunky_019.jpg
It gets nasty outside in this area.   Last week we had horribly strong winds…and that only gets worse when winter arrives.   Putting real evergreen branches in the window boxes would have been ideal, but not practical.
I happened to have a bunch of long strands of faux evergreen garland sitting in the storage unit waiting for me to either discard it or use it.   I came across it, and thought that maybe I could use it in the boxes!   It is made of wire, so it can be secured to the window boxes tightly, and easily.   It will withstand the cold, snow and wind of an Alberta winter…and…the best part…I already have it…so I don’t have to do a thing to obtain it!
BeFunky_020.jpg
I used two 7 foot strands in each box.   I didn’t want them to look too poofy…or too spindly either.   I wired it on…and attached it to different parts of the boxes…to look like it was trailing.
BeFunky_017.jpg
I am not sure about adding anything to them.   I don’t have any extra plug in space to add lights to them…and most of the ornaments around this area are for inside…the cold will make them crack and peel…and if I added pine cones…they will just be hidden by the snow when it falls…SO…I think they can just be filled with the faux greens…I am happy with that for now.
I already had some comments on them by people going past on the street…they don’t think it needs anything either.
What do you think?   Does it look okay?  I would love to hear you chime in!

Well….that’s it for me for today…

SO?   What are you waiting for???
GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

You can link as many posts as you like…I don’t mind seeing lots!!!

Thank you all so much for all the wonderful comments  this week... and WELCOME to all my new followers…and to those that loyally follow me and faithfully link in to this party…AND who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…

THANK YOU!

I appreciate you more than you know.
Stay tuned Sunday/Monday for the next installment of “The 108 Year Old House” There is a LOT to share!   If you missed some…you can find the links to chapter 1, 2 and 3 by clicking on their numbers!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my Canadian Friends!   I wish you all a great weekend, with lots of good food, friends and family!
Somehow Thanksgiving snuck right up on me, and if not for my mom  (Grammie) I wouldn’t have even realized it!  I have been CRAZY BUSY this week with anything and everything!   There has been wall painting, door painting, housework, traveling to do errands, and yard work going on in my world!   How was your week?
Since last week the view from my windows has changed dramatically.   FALL has definitely arrived in Tootsie’s Gardens!   Take a look:
BeFunky_099.jpg
The frost finished off my back yard gardens completely this week.   I decided to get busy and take out the annuals.   I also drained my fountain so that the frigid temps of the Alberta winter wouldn’t ruin the pump.
BeFunky_098.jpg
It sure does look depressed now…
BeFunky_097.jpg
Bland…Just not very Tootsie At all!
BeFunky_096.jpg
I still need to do some odd’s n ends in the back yard…clean and put the pots away and get some of the ick cleaned up.  I also want to put protection over a few things before the winter comes…But for now…this is the scene in the back yard.
BeFunky_094.jpg
Last week, my hedge was still green and there was not much for damage to the front yard…but this week…the leaves have started to turn…don’t you just love the pretty colors???   They just look so warm…too bad they mean winter’s coming!
BeFunky_095.jpg
There are a few things missing from the front yard…I got busy and rid the garden of anything that was finished or frost killed…I am sure next week will bring another truck load of flowers out of the garden…Sad smile  For now, I will hang onto what I have left as long as I can!

Well….that’s it for me for today…I don’t want to make my post too terribly long…You guys need a chance to share too!!!
What’s happening in your Garden?

What are you waiting for???

GO!!!
Get your flaunt on!!!

You can link as many posts as you like…I don’t mind seeing lots!!!

Thank you all so much for all the wonderful comments about the old house this week... and WELCOME to all my new followers…and to those that loyally follow me and faithfully link in to this party…AND who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…THANK YOU!  I appreciate you more than you know.

Happy Thanksgiving Canada!!!   What are YOU thankful for?

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

*)*)*)… I am thankful for friends that turned into family, dreams that turned into reality, prayer requests that turned into comfort, and the likes that turned into love.

As many of you may have noticed, I have had a lot of trouble with my little site here the last week or so.   When I went to post the party last week, I realized that I was totally locked out!!!   Google messed up HUGE and it nearly cost me everything I have ever posted!   It took me all week to finally get everything sorted out and get back up and running…I hope.   There are still a few little kinks here and there that I need to iron out, but for the most part at least I can LOAD my site, and thankfully so can you!
In other news…we have had lots of cold wet weather here in my part of Alberta.   There has been below freezing temperatures, and even some flakes of SNOW have fallen!   Miraculously, my yard still looks pretty darn good for having been through so much dramatic weather!  Take a look:
BeFunky_096.jpg
The beds still look GREAT!!!   There have been a few casualties in this garden though…
BeFunky_090.jpg
My window boxes have seen much better days.  I quit watering last week…I hate pulling things that still look good…lol
BeFunky_091.jpg
I am so amazed that with all the frost we have had, that everything is still so pretty!
BeFunky_086.jpg
I have a few ugly sights to deal with…Coleus does not like cold!
BeFunky_085.jpg
I usually go out every morning right after the frost falls and water it off to save my flowers.  This year I have not done this once!   It seems the Lobelia in the piano planter does not mind the cool weather.
BeFunky_084.jpg
It was dusk when I took these photos tonight.  Just the right time to be able to see the colors POP!   I am going to miss my pretty colors after I pull everything.   Hopefully I will get time to do that this weekend!
Well….that’s it for me for today…I don’t want to make my post too terribly long…You guys need a chance to share too!!!

What are you waiting for???
GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

Thank you all so much for being so patient with me through all of the confusion this week... and to those that faithfully link in to this party…AND who are patient while waiting for me to FINALLY visit you…THANK YOU!  I appreciate you more than you know.

Stay tuned for a wonderful post about my meeting with the Mermaid!

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

Well….another week has come and gone in the garden.  With Fall quickly approaching, I have stopped dead heading and feeding my plants, and have started to pull things that are not looking so wonderful anymore.

I am desperate to hold onto the summer blooms for as long as I possibly can, so I am still watering, and trying to hold off pulling anything for as long as possible.  Last night marked the first frost of the season, and that means the it is only a matter of time before I have nothing left to share but memories.

In between bouts of this flu that has been plaguing me endlessly the last couple of weeks, I have managed to get a few things done in the gardens, and I have removed a lot.   When the frost warning was issued, the kids and I rushed to put a few of the plants that I wanted to keep a bit longer into the greenhouse…
BeFunky_233.jpg
There wasn’t even room to move in there…just barely enough room to close the door!   We managed to save them from the frost though, and that was the point!
BeFunky_279.jpg
If you look close, you can see where I have pulled a few things…can you see what has changed in the back since last we met?
BeFunky_237.jpg
The fence line is looking a little bare since I started getting rid of a few things…lots of the hanging baskets are gone for good…the frost didn’t seem to do too much damage last night, so this bed will be left for now…
BeFunky_291.jpg
Lots missing along the greenhouse.   The warm temps of last week took a toll on some of the plants that were just starting to finish, so I tossed them out.
BeFunky_281.jpg
The hanging baskets on the shed are looking a little on the icky side after the frost, so they are going to be tossed today.  Good thing I tend to plant a lot of pots…I see some fancy re-arrangements coming!  lol
Well….that’s it for me for today…I don’t want to make my post too terribly long…You guys need a chance to share too!!!

WELL HELLO THERE!

So?????....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

I had HUGE plans for this week…the weather was wonderful, (seems we finally got summer) and there is so much a girl could do outside at this time of year…I was roaring to get going!
And then…
I got the stomach flu.   So much for all my plans…forget about doing anything outside at all!   I tried endlessly to write a couple of the posts I have been meaning to get done up and shared, but NO…I just could not get any of it done.  In fact…this post is the most I have been able to do in three days!   Fever, chills, nausea, upset stomach…I am the poster child of people who feel like crap!
I did manage to get a few shots together to share with you guys…so lets move away from the gross topic of the flu, and onto something much prettier!
Take a look:
BeFunky_003.jpg
This bed was getting to be a bit of a mess again…in spite of my efforts to thin things, it has become an overgrown eyesore…filled with chick weed….yes…I said the C word…ugh.

BeFunky_203.jpg
So…I got busy last week and I cleaned it right out.  I put a couple of things in, but not all the way in.   I left that thyme and the oregano in their pots…that way I can get in there and deal with the chick weed as it pops up…and as you can see here…it is already popping again!

BeFunky_095.jpg
I added a wisteria to the back of the bed, so it can hopefully hide the UGLY that resides ON the house itself…I hate all the cords and meters etc…

BeFunky_222.jpg
This is the view of that area of the house from a little way back…not bad…but you can sure tell that summer is almost gone.

BeFunky_186.jpg
My first bed…the one I built first in this yard, is still growing like it is June…things are HUGE in there…and there isn’t much for soil to be seen…(that’s a good thing)
This is one of the only spaces that isn’t showing signs of fall…
BeFunky_049.jpg
My “rust-ic Junkin bed” is looking a lot like fall is about to happen…I just hate how it’s fading away so fast.
BeFunky_100.jpg
From Far back, the entire yard still looks ‘okay’…I hope the weather treats us well until late in the fall…I am not looking forward to the first killing frost…That always breaks this gardener’s heart.
BeFunky_DSCN3649.jpgUntil then…I will enjoy seeing this little guy every day in the gardens…I had never seen a hummingbird moth until I moved here…they are amazing!   This is the second year for them here…they seem to enjoy swapping flowers with the little hummingbird that refuses to let me take his photo!
Well….that’s it for me for today…I don’t want to make my post too terribly long…You guys need a chance to share too!!!

What are you waiting for???
GO!!!

Get your flaunt on!!!

Until Next Time... Happy Gardening!

WELL HELLO THERE!   WELCOME FRIEND!

So?????....I would like to invite each and every one of you to join in and share your photos...

Since last we met, there has been a lot of different weather issues hit my garden.  Thunderstorms and loads of rain fell, making my blooms weary and WET.   The chickweed that plagues my gardens seems to think rain is a steroid and burst out making my work that much more!   Then there is the wonderful heat and sun that has been here for the last day or two…I LOVE it!

I have had a very busy summer and that means I have neglected my flower beds a little bit this past few weeks… take a look:
BeFunky_012.jpg
I have a suspicion that some of the Malva may have volunteered this year!  hahaha….I need to get this bed under control…I love the jungle look…and I don’t believe there is ever too many plants…but when they start looking like this…it’s time for Tootsie to take things into her own hands…(and cutters)
BeFunky_013.jpg
Good greif!   you can’t see anything…because EVERYTHING is insane!   I also have to do something about that chick weed!!!  grr
BeFunky_020.jpg
There is a LOT of dead heading needing to be done in my gardens…that’s gonna take a while…the rain sure did a number on the geraniums!
BeFunky_018.jpg
The Golden Plume Elder I put in this bed is trying to take over…I think a little cutting in is order here…and a lot of weedigng.   Yes…I did throw some weeds onto the lawn….I’m mowing it in a minute anyways…lol
BeFunky_016.jpg
Remember the two little pathways I put into this bed???   They are on either side of the Pansy’s….YA…well…I need to get in here and cut the plants back so I can walk around to water!
I also need to mow that lawn!!!
….
8 long, sweaty, filthy hours later…..
BeFunky_037.jpg
Well…I tamed it!…a little bit anyways…the Pansy’s didn’t like me pulling the chickweed…it was wrapped up in them and now they look a little mad…they better get over it!
BeFunky_049.jpg
I cut back a lot of that Elder and managed to get SOME but not all weeding done in this bed…trust me, the weeds will wait…haha
BeFunky_051.jpg
I took a break from the weeding…it makes me crabby…and decided to plant a Hydrangea that I have had in the greenhouse.   I love it, and hope it makes it through the winter here!
BeFunky_027.jpg
There are a few of these wonderful huge blooms getting ready to pop on that plant.  I put it against the fence as to give it a little wind break, and since it likes to fall down, the fence can act as support for it.
BeFunky_035.jpg
I also planted a honeysuckle vine by the greenhouse door.  I hope it gets nice and big there and will arch the doorway one day.
By the time I finished mowing the lawn and doing all of this, it was getting dark outside and I looked like a bush woman covered in filth!
