Once a year the world stops to remember the one person responsible for bringing us all into this world. Our MOM’S.
Once a year we stop to thank her for the hard work, the laundry, the cookies, the clean house, the meals…and for pretty much everything else that happens around the house.
Once a year we take a day to remember who it is that taught us a lot of what we know…and showed us limitless unconditional love.
I would like to introduce to you my mother. I wish I had a decent photo of my her to share with you today…but sadly she is as insufferable as my dad and always has to make some sort of face at the camera…so here’s the best I could come up with.
Hahaha!!! I bet my Dad is rolling on the floor right now…hahaha!
Anyways…this is my mom. Her name is IRIS! She is one determined little lady. She stands no more than 5 feet in height, but LOOK OUT when she sets her mind to something…(or gets mad) She has (with lots of help from my dad) grown a small shoe store into a thriving business well known for many miles around.
She upholsters, sews, decorates and manages my dad so gracefully that she makes it look easy! (and lets say Dad…is not easy) haha…(and yes…I get my silliness from him)
There are those that say I look a lot like my mother and behave very much like my Dad…I suppose that this might be a little true…My mom…well.. She’s a lady. She likes high heels and lipstick. She wears purses and shoes to match. (I like jeans, sneakers, and I carry a tool set in my purse) I am not sure…but it might be that the last dress that I wore was at my wedding…(and look at the awful bad luck that gave me! haha)
My mom is a very creative person. She can wallpaper and decorate with ease. She can take an ugly piece of furniture, and in a few short hours it is a fantastic showpiece. She is as stubborn as they come, and is a strong and successful business woman, and talented pianist.
I thought I’d share some examples of her talent and creativity with you guys today.
My Dad went junkin one day, and found this setee…It was slated for the garbage! It is gorgeous now. (and is soon to be mine)
Look how pretty her living room is! Everything in there was sewn or upholstered by my mom!
This piano is where my sister and I used to sit to take our lessons. It is a family heirloom…is over 100 years old and one day I will polish it with as much love as she does.
This beautiful child is me! Yep! I am wearing a dress that my mom made for me…and I suppose I do look a little like her…(this photo was included to prove that she is talented enough to create a masterpiece!) haha
My Mom has taught me a lot in my life. I have inherited many of the qualities that she posesses…and I am glad that I did. Thank you Mom for the years of patience…impatience and for all that you did and have given to me over the years.
“Before I was a Mom, I never tripped over toys
or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not
my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations
Before I was a Mom, I had never been puked on.
Pooped on.
Chewed on.
Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind
and my thoughts.
I slept all night.
Before I was a Mom, I never held down a screaming child
so doctors could do tests.
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night
watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a Mom, I never held a sleeping baby just because
I didn't want to put her down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.
Before I was a Mom, I didn't know the feeling of
having my heart outside my body..
I didn't know how special it could feel
to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond
between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small
could make me feel so important and happy.
Before I was a Mom, I had never gotten up in the middle of the night
every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth,
the joy,
the love,
the heartache,
the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom”
Happy Mothers Day to you Mom I suppose that in answer to the question in the title…we’d have to say you are not a weed…but a beautiful (yet short) flower. Love you Grammie B!
…and to all the other Moms out there Happy Mothers Day!
