Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Oct30/09

Here we are again....Friday. The end of a work week for some...the beginning of a garden party for the rest of us!!! Fertilizer Friday is the day when gardeners from all over the world join in and share the blooms of their labors!
Now...if you are not familiar with the winter rules here...you will be...since I have ZERO to share...my gardens are bare...I (and other gardeners in similar climates) are sharing our favorite photos from months, gardens, years gone by. Those who have real live beauty to share are doing that!
So? What are we waiting for? Feed your flowers/ houseplants...gardens...snap some photos, link in and Flaunt with me!
Todays entry for me is a real blast from the past.
The year is 2005....and these are my large pots! (my how things change)
I spent two days making a small pathway to my greenhouse...
There it is...so little...this is the original that we moved on a truck to move to this house...I was not moving without it!
Later that summer...we added 8 more feet to the original 8X8 foot structure which was heated by electric space heaters....and the windows...were from Nana's old place. Oh how I loved my rickety old greenhouse....I miss it so. We had to tear it down when we go the new one...it was loaded with black mold which was part of the mystery illness that nearly killed this old Toots...
The side of the garden along the fence
Garden beside the back stairs.
In the front yard along the side of the house...
Look how teeny the vines were!!! lol...
Funny how things change that we don't really notice until we look back in our photos!
Now...please accept my invitation to grab the top photo and link back to me...also put your link in the mister linky below! I can't wait to see what you all share this week!

Thrifted Treasures

So I went thriftin...didn't find much along the lines of projects. I had my eye on a cabinet to play with, but it went before I got over to claim it as my own. What I did find caused me to have the urge to continue the makeover that Gloria's sweet lamp had me doing...
A very tarninshed silver bowl. I like my antique silver tea sets with a lot of tarnish on them...there is just something about them all blackened that appeals to me more than a shiny silver finish! I put this as a candle holder in the living room...(Busy thought it was a hat and wore it around for a bit too) lol
A Cream color pitcher...It was too hard to get a good shot of the details on this piece...just take my word for it that it is really pretty...
Yep! I bought ANOTHER canister!!! I am not a dish a holic (but I'm getting there) I am a very very bad canister collector!
There are two of these Christmas ornaments...
And one of this shape.
Aren't they great? I can hardly wait to use them!
And this is the prize of the whole day! This gorgeous picture! Now if you have ever tried to photograph a picture...you know how many shots I had to take to even get one this good!!!
I have an antique tea pot that is exactly like the one in the picture!!! It is in perfect condition...not even a scratch on the frame...so perfect in fact...
That the authenticity thingi is still on the back! I just love this piece and I have to find the Perfect spot for it!
I also picked up (yep that plate addiction I mentioned that is starting) four dinner and one salad plate of this pattern. I know that is not much...but they are just so pretty that I could not resist!
Here's where the majority of the treasures ended up.. a lot of books had to move out of this cabinet to make room for them...but it is worth it. lol I did this all while I chatted on the phone with some wonderful blogging ladies....they know who they are...wink wink!
This seems to be my week to do a bunch of nesting in the evenings.

One of a Kind Treasure!

This is Gloria. Her blog is named Happy To Be. She is my Mom-(okay-not really-but hey... a girl can dream right?) Gloria adopted me to be her daughter about 2 years ago...and we have become very close. In fact, I just spoke to her earlier this afternoon for a couple of hours! (loved every minute too)
I absolutely admire the spirit of this woman. She has such an adventurous personality...and so many talents...I love to visit her blog and admire all the gorgeous antiques she keeps in her beautiful and unique home. One day I am going to show up there with my U-Haul and go shopping in my Mom's house! I can hardly wait!
So one day last week I got a parcel card in the mailbox and I knew that it was from her. So I ran my hot little heels all the way to the post office and picked up my box. Look at what she sent me!
Is this not just the sweetest little lamp? She made it custom just for lil' ol' me!...
So I put it where I could see it all the time...and then it happened...Gloria made me do a whole rip apart and re-do of my entire house...I like the lamp there...but I thought it deserved a nicer more special place....
Also in that box was my very special "Roo". I love it...it is from a store called Ross. We don't have one of those here...so I feel very special! I set "Roo" on a cake plate with some moss and put her in my living room cabinet.
Just the right colors...Does my Mom know me well or what!
Yep...I love her!
I thought that since I already had the house ripped apart to place my "Roo" I would put that wonderful little lamp in the cabinet too...
Can you see it?
There it is...along with a few hints of tomorrow's post...
I love this little gift so much! It is the second time I have received a gift with Tootsie Time on it...Jessica sent me that little canvas bag that I love too!
Perfect!
Look at all the details she put into this! And...if I want to change the flowers to a different color of hydrangea...all I have to do is pop them in! I also have little lamp shades that I can change out...but for me...the way she made it is just perfect...there will never be another one like it!
Now this gift has prompted this Toots to find her creative side...I have been as busy as a beaver making some new looks in this house...Between the thriftin' I did, and the special tokens of unconditional love that I have received....I have lots to share with you guys this week! For now...it is after 2AM, and I have kids to dress for school tomorrow....so I must stop for now...so I will end today by saying THANK YOU MOM!!! I LOVE IT!
Stay tuned...my thriftin' finds are coming up next!

Fertilizer Friday/ Flaunt Your Flowers Oct 23/09

Welcome to another edition of Fertilizer Friday! Today is the day we all gather together, feed, water, or just flaunt our flowers! Those who are regulars here know exactly what to do...those who are new....WELCOME! If you are unsure...either read below or click the Fertilizer Friday link in the menu bar at the top of the page to see how to play along!
Now I know that some of you all thought that this meme would end once my growing season ended....BUT this is not the case.
For the winter months we will be sharing our indoor gardens...such as houseplants or greenhouse items...OR our favorite photos of gardens from seasons past...OR... if you are like April and Darla...and you still have things growing...cause you are lucky to have a great gardening climate...Share your current gardens!
I hope you will take me up on the invite to share WHATEVER IT IS...."ugly" is not a word in this meme...show it...ask questions...just join in! Even one plant is better than none!
Today for me I am sharing some of the plants that I have that I have a VERY hard time growing...Succulents and Cacti.
This is a little pot I planted seed in on a whim about three years ago. I had never grown cacti from seed...and thought I would challenge myself...as you can see...the seeds sprouted!
And they are growing! Now Cacti and Succulents for me are hard...they grow slow...and I tend to over love them and they end up soggy and dead...so I am seriously proud of my little cacti garden.
I really wish I was brave enough to transplant this pot to larger living quarters...but...I'm not..so they are really squished in there.
Lots of little round ones...anyone know anything I can do to coax them into bloom...other than what the books say?
This is a little Christmas/Thanksgiving cactus that I have had for about two years. It just got a new pot last week...it seems to have perked up a bit since!
I do believe this is a Century plant...and let me say if I am right...they named it correctly! It is not going to last long in this house if it doesn't do something soon!!! It's boring me!
Another Christmas/Thanksgiving Cactus...that blooms about 6 times a year...I think it has calendar issues! lol When it does bloom they are blood red!
Hen and Chicks....
And some progress shots of the Jade getting ready to burst into glorious bloom!
I am out in that greenhouse like a dirty shirt waiting for the big show!
Maybe next week!
Now...come on you guys!!! Link in! Share with us! Sharing our gardens inspires us all to add or step it up just a little! Add yourself to the mister linky below! Darla...maybe you can add some shots of the BBQ bed you made last summer?
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend...see you in the garden!

Fetilizer Friday/Flaunt Your Flowers Oct16/09

Welcome to another edition of Fertilizer Friday! I hope you all have lots and lots of flowers to flaunt for me...because I have very little to share anymore since the snow fell and stayed now for a full week!!! yea...I said the "S" word.
So...if this is your first visit to Tootsie Time...please feel free to learn how to link in by clicking the link in the menu at the top of the page...I invite you all to join me...I just love looking at your gardens and find so much inspiration from the things you share!
Lets get this party started!
My contribution today is from inside the greenhouse where I have had some very pleasant surprises this week!!!
This is my Jade plant. It has been struggling the last bit...we had bugs...I bathed it...then it got a sunburn...I nursed it...and now it needs a bath as it is full of water stains...so when I went to polish the "leaves"...I was shocked to see...
THIS!!!! IT'S BLOOMING!!!! WOOO HOOO!
It is blooming...and not just a few...a whole bunch! I did the bestest happy dance I know how...but I am sure Gloria would be able to teach us a better way...right mom?
Mandevilla is still going strong! There are lots of blooms opening up...I will show the full feature next week...hey..a girl needs something to host with!!! lol
Rose is almost done..but the color is so pretty...
I salvaged a verbena...and it decided to thank me...smells wonderful too...
and then.....I had another big surprise...
Does anyone know what this is?
Yep...those are the seed pods of a spider plant! WOOO HOOO AGAIN!
I posted a while ago about the day I found what I thought was some sort of rodent droppings...and then realized my spider plant had gone to seed...remember??? Well this gigantic specimen is three of those seeds dropped in soil and forgotten for a while....LOOK!!!
LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THIS PUPPY!!! I can't even bring it in the house right now...it is sooo big that it takes up a full 3 foot corner just for the leaves...and it is heavy. I need to pick up some soil and a really great pot...so I can re-pot it and put it on a pedestal somewhere inside!!!
Well...that's it for me...now it's your turn...link in and show me what ya got!
Let's get flaunting!!!
